A Fit, Fighting Force by Office of Air Force History,U.s. Air Force Pdf

Since the Air Force Nurse Corps emerged from the Army Nurse Corps in July 1949, Air Force nursing service personnel have excelled in providing dedicated care to their customers. At first these customers were our own Air Force members, families, and retirees. Today we often provide nursing care to other federal employees, Americans in the private sector, and patients in countries around the world.Nevertheless, over the last fifty-five years the mission of the Air Force Medical Service has basically remained the same, “to provide medical support necessary to maintain the highest degree of combat readiness and effectiveness of the USAF,” or in today's words, “to maintain a fit, fighting force.” Air Force nurses have contributed to this mission in both wartime and peacetime, providing leadership, caring, and quality care. Air Force nurses think of their customer- focused mission as a combination of “Global Nursing” and “Precision Care.”As we enter the new millennium, this chronology reminds us of our past and recognizes the tremendous milestones and accomplishments of those who came before us—role models who provided the mentorship and guidance thathelped shape today's Air Force nurses. We are also inspired by our vision for the future—the Total Nursing Force, a seamless interaction of Regular Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, and civilian nurses to provide the best in nursing care. In the future our Total Nursing Force will face many challenges and great opportunities. I am certain we will add exciting new chapters to our story and continue our legacy of devoted service to our nation.

A Contemporary History of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps by Anonim Pdf

This book focuses on an organization, the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, which the author has been privileged to be affiliated with – in one way or another – for the greatest part of her adult life. As an active duty officer, the author had first-hand knowledge about the Army Nurse Corps inner workings and spent the last years of her Army career (from 1992) researching and writing the Corps history. One of her goals in researching and writing this history was to intrigue and provide a sense of gratification for the reader. After the conclusion of the Vietnam War, several wide-ranging and significant changes exerted myriad effects on the Army Nurse Corps. The most influential of these phenomena included the dismantling of the Selective Service System, the reorganization of the Army, the launch of the Health Services Command (HSC), the opening of the Academy of Health Sciences, the transformation of the Office of the Army Surgeon General, the inauguration of improvements in the Army Reserve and National Guard, and the evolution in the roles and status of women.

Women in the United States Armed Forces by Darlene M. Iskra Pdf

This handbook provides the reader with an historical and contemporary overview of the service by women in all branches of the U.S. military, tracing the causes and effects of evolving policies, issues, structural barriers, and cultural challenges on the record and in the future of the accomplishments by women warriors. Women in the United States Armed Forces: A Guide to the Issues covers over a century of accomplishments of military women, from the Civil War to the current wars in the Middle East. Readers will learn, for example, that during World War II, 565 women in the Women's Army Corps stationed in the Pacific theater received combat decorations, proving that women had the courage, strength, and stamina to perform in a combat environment. They will also learn that, perhaps surprisingly, it wasn't until the mid- to late 1970s that women had their first opportunities to serve at sea and as aviators (crew as well as pilots), albeit on noncombatant ships and aircraft. The book's final four chapters discuss the issues that continue to plague women in the military, including sexual harassment, noting that women's performance in America's two-front wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have made a positive difference in attitudes. The handbook closes with an epilogue that is at once a summary of the issues and a call for action.

The Armed Forces Covenant in action? Part 1: Military casualties by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Defence Committee Pdf

The Government must show how the excellent medical care being delivered to injured service personnel will continue long after the memory of the Afghan Operation fades. This report, which gives praise to the first class medical treatment provided for the Armed Forces, questions whether the support for injured personnel will be sustainable over the long term. In particular, the committee is concerned about the number of people who may go on to develop severe and life-limiting, physical, mental health, alcohol or neurological problems. There is still a question mark over whether the Government as a whole fully understands the likely future demands and related costs
