Class with the Countess by LuAnn de Lesseps Pdf

The glamorous star of Bravo's hit show The Real Housewives of New York City makes it easy to be elegant, with contemporary etiquette tips and a complete course in the art of sophisticated living Countess LuAnn de Lesseps knows firsthand that class is a state of mind, not a birthright. Raised in small-town Connecticut-half French Canadian, half Native American-she worked as a registered nurse before she started modeling. On her first trip to Europe, she was awed by the lifestyle of the Italians and stayed, eventually becoming a TV personality. Before long, she began a fairy-tale romance with Alexandre Count de Lesseps, of the Suez Canal dynasty, and married into a world of aristocrats. She learned during her time in Europe that panache comes from within- not from an antiquated manual. Now she shares her savvy advice and her inspiring story in Class with the Countess, including: ?Elegance can most certainly be acquired. ?All of life is a seduction. ?You don't have to be rich and famous to have an unforgettable presence. ?Being interested is what makes you interesting. ?An alluring woman makes everyone want to be near her. The twenty-first century's answer to Emily Post, the Countess gives a new generation of women an exuberant and incomparable guide to modern social graces.

Marrakech Flair by Marisa Berenson Pdf

It has been said that Marrakech awakens all of the senses. Whether it is seeing the intricate zellige tilework; smelling the various spices sold at the souks; hearing the call to prayer emanate from the nearby mosques; touching the supple leather used to make a pair of babouches (leather sandals); tasting a flavorful tagine, Marrakech never fails to excite. Located just west of the Atlas Mountains, the city has been inhabited by Berber farmers for centuries. It has been dubbed the “Ochre City” because of the proliferation of red sandstone buildings and the red city walls, which now enclose the Medina, home to Jemaa el-Fnaa, one of the busiest squares in Africa.

Ric Flair: To Be the Man by Ric Flair Pdf

Throughout the years, there may have been equally charismatic performers, comparable athletes, and even better interviews, but none were blessed with the same combination of talents to manage to stay on top for over three decades. To wrestling fans, the Nature Boy is a platinum-blond deity, a sixteen-time world champion who accurately boasted that he could have a five-star match with a broom. No matter how limited the opponent, Flair had the skill and determination to bounce all over the mat, transforming his rival into a star. When the camera light went on, "Slick Ric" could convince viewers that, if they missed an upcoming match, a momentous life experience would pass them by. Flair's opponents were challenged with this simple taunt: "To be the man, you have to beat the man." Away from the arena, Richard Morgan Fliehr spent years struggling with his own concept of what it meant to be a man. He suffered periods of crushing self-doubt, marital strife and—in a profession where there was room for only one Ric Flair—broken friendships. Ric Flair: To Be the Man, cowritten with Keith Elliot Greenberg, chronicles the anguish and exhilaration of Flair's life and career—in painfully honest detail. In addition to his own words, Flair's story is enriched by anecdotes from ring greats like Superstar Billy Graham, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, Harley Race, Sgt. Slaughter, David Crockett, Arn Anderson, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, "Mean" Gene Okerlund, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Undertaker and Brock Lesnar. To Be the Man traces the rise of one of wrestling's most enduring superstars to the pinnacle of the sports entertainment universe, and is a must-read for every wrestling fan.

French Flair by Sebastien Siraudeau Pdf

While modern design often neglects cultural and artistic heritage in favor of minimalism, Siraudeau demonstrates that it isn’t necessary to forgo tradition to create a fashionable home. With his eye for idiosyncratic details, Siraudeau has an exceptional flair for finding homes characterized with vintage style, where antique objects invoke nostalgia and time-tested quality. French writer and musician Boris Vian declared, “Any object can be an objet d’art once put in a frame,” and that innovative spirit shines through in the one hundred properties featured here. From 1960s mannequins to antique books to a salvaged Parisian streetlamp, any kind of paraphernalia can define and enrich the personality of a home by giving it a history. Styles and periods don’t need to match because French design is about integrating the unexpected alongside unconventional details to make a modern home unique. The reader is guided through some of the most remarkable locations in France, each abounding with features that characterize the unique French flair for home decorating. From delightful rural guesthouses, exquisite townhomes, and charming seaside retreats to the best of France’s antique shops, Siraudeau reveals how an extraordinarily diverse range of ambiences can be achieved by integrating the simplest of decorative touches. His ideas and advice are astute to contemporary comforts and the practicalities of modern living, and his exquisite photos, flooded with the soft light of a French summer, make this an invaluable volume for admirers of French style.

Flowering of the Cumberland by Harriette Simpson Arnow Pdf

The author of Seedtime on the Cumberland returns with another richly detailed evocation of pioneering in the Cumberland River basin, or what is now middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. Not a sequel but a companion piece, Flowering of the Cumberland covers much the same time—from first settlement in 1780 to the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Whereas Seedtime was preoccupied with solitary men and women struggling to secure food, clothing, shelter, and land, Flowering goes beyond simple survival to focus on family and community. Memorably described are the strength of women like Sally Buchanan in stations fortified against Indian attack, the emergence of men like Andrew Jackson, the pursuit of sex and marriage, the birthing and raising of children, schooling, the state of agriculture, business opportunities and the professions, religion and tolerance, border politics, and social life and diversions. An entire bygone world comes to life, and with it the smell of strong whiskey, the clippety-clop of horses, and the haunts of ghosts.

Higher Living by Holly Hester Pdf

I wrote this book after many people telling me throughout years of ministry that I should. I have traveled to many places, and I have found that people ask me the same question over and over, “Holly, how do I truly live higher?” I decided to write this book to simply answer that question. It is my sincere hope that after you read this book, not only will you have the insight to do just that, but you will know what it personally means to you to live in your higher life. I hope this book helps you find your true calling and purpose directly given by the Lord. As we dive into these books, into each chapter, I ask one thing only—be open. Be open to more. Let me explain. There are levels in each of us to live out our desire to live to a higher living. The desire should be there to begin. When the desire is there, access is the way—a higher level called the beyond then occurs for us. This is where living higher begins. Posture will change. There is a certain level of insight, purpose, and access that is achieved when desire grows and posture changes. There is a birthing. It is not simply living only, a mistake of thought so many make. So here is the question again, “How?” The answer is not how. It is desire, posture, and access to a higher way. Let us start with desire. The word desire is translated from the Greek word epithumia from epi, meaning “focused on.” Another use of this term is “inordinate” or excessively large. It is my prayer that we have an inordinate desire to truly live higher and to focus on what this can mean for us in the same way it meant to me as I have written each chapter. It is my strong desire that we focus right now. When there is a lack of focus, vision becomes very blurry. I can recall having a blurred vision when others would ask me what living higher meant. I can even recall a time when a picture was taken of me as a child with my eyes closed. A relative later found this picture and asked me how I was able to sleep standing up while the camera caught my image. I ask us all that my relative asked me, How are we able to keep our eyes closed right now? Let us have the strong, inordinate desire to focus on the moment. This desire to open our eyes will naturally pull the camera lens to us. What happened? Nothing. We opened our eyes. After desire comes to posture. Picture posture is necessary when capturing a memory. Are we willing to change our posture for the cameras in life? It’s interesting what happens after we open our eyes for the camera changes our position. Finally, we achieve access to see closer, look at, change more. The camera gives access. Access to function in life is far greater than desire or even posture, believe it or not. Haven’t we all glanced at a picture that was taken of us before? Perhaps a picture that we take with others involved? These three elements are the agents for higher territory— a greater way. A new ground, and a new look from a different angle in each situation. Our camera lens must focus.
