A History of Israelite Religion in the Old Testament Period: From the exile to the Maccabees by Rainer Albertz,John Bowden Pdf
No comprehensive history of Israelite religion has been published for some time now, so this new, encyclopaedic work meets a considerable need. The two volumes cover the history of the religion of Israel and Judah from the earliest recognizable beginnings to the Hellenistic period and constantly take into account not only the other religions of the ancient Near East but also Israelite social history. The history of Israel's religion is described as an interplay between historical demands, religious experiences and theological reactions, as the ongoing struggle between different groups over the appropriate religious response to God and the social practice that needs to go with it.

The History and Religion of Israel by George Wishart Anderson Pdf
The history and religion of Israel are inseparable and yet stand in sharp contrast to each other. The history of Israel is in one sense only a minor feature in the broad complex of ancient Near Eastern history. With the possible exception of the reigns of David and Solomon, Israel never attained imperial status.

Yahwism after the Exile by Alberts,Bob Prof. Dr. Becking Pdf
STAR - Studies in Theology and Religion, 5 Papers Read at the First Meeting of the European Association for Biblical Studies, Utrecht, 6-9 August 2000 The Persian era in Ancient Israel’s history is an intriguing period. The time span between Cyrus the Great and Alexander the Great was a theatre of shifts and changes. These changes are observable in daily life, in the organisation of society as well as in various religious phenomena. The essays in this volume originate from a seminar about developments and movements in the religion of Israel after the Exile, which was part of the first meeting of the European Association for Biblical Studies (Utrecht, 2000). The essays deal with questions like: How did religion help inhabitants of Yehud to cope with the new reality? How did this new reality influence the (re)formulation of Yahwism? What was the character of the existing Yahwism that was reformulated? Rainer Albertz (PhD Heidelberg, 1972; Habilitation Heidelberg, 1977) is ordinary Professor of Old Testament Studies at the University of Münster (Westfalen, Germany). His most recent book is: Die Exilszeit 6. Jahrhundert v. Chr. (Biblische Enzyklopädie 7), Stuttgart 2001. Bob Becking (PhD Utrecht, 1985) is ordinary Professor of Old Testament studies at Utrecht University. He was co-editor of the Dictionary of Deities and Demons in the Bible, Leiden 1995; 21998. A History of Israel by John Bright Pdf
The history of Israel is the history of a people which came into being at a certain point in time as a league of tribes united in covenant with Yahweh, which subsequently existed as a nation, then as two nations, and finally as a religious community, but which was at all times set off from its environment as a distinctive cultural entity. The distinguishing factor that made Israel the peculiar phenomenon that she was, which both created her society and was the controlling factor in her history, was of course her religion. Since this is so, Israel's history is a subject inseparable from the history of Israel's religion. - Foreword.

The History of the Religion of Israel by Crawford Howell Toy Pdf
Excerpt from The History of the Religion of Israel: An Old Testament It has been thought best to present the whole History of Israel in one course of lessons. This could not be done without great compression of the matter; but it is hoped that the Primer in this shape will not be beyond the grasp of children of twelve years and upwards. Where the condensation is so great, much is necessarily left to the knowledge and discretion of the teacher. He must treat the various subjects as he thinks best for his class, - abridging here, and expanding there; dividing one lesson into two, or throwing two into one; omitting one or more lessons, if he thinks fit, and substituting for them other matter. He most freely discuss the opinions expressed in the Primer, dissenting from and modifying them according to his best judgment. One or two suggestions may be made as to the conduct of the lessons. It is very desirable that the teacher should bring himself into hearty sympathy with the period studied, so as to give his pupils a vivid picture of its outward circumstances and its thought. The cultivation of the historical sense will be worth more than the acquisition of facts. To aid him in this task a short list of books of reference is appended to each lesson. Only such books are mentioned as it is believed will be useful to Sunday-school instructors. Every Sunday-school should have a reference library.
