A Manual of Surgical Treatment 1912-13 (Classic Reprint) by William Watson Cheyne Pdf

Excerpt from A Manual of Surgical Treatment 1912-13 The subject of Surgery has now become so extensive that any work attempting to deal with it in an exhaustive manner must necessarily be so large and unwieldy as to be suitable only for purposes of reference, or for the use of those who devote themselves exclusivelv to its practice. In any text-book of convenient size the information given in certain branches of the subject must therefore be considerably condensed, and, as the first essential for the beginner is to have the fullest knowledge of the nature and characters of the diseases that he has to study, special stress is usually laid upon pathology, symptomatology, and diagnosis. For the practitioner, on the other hand, who is already acquainted with these points, the great essential is full and detailed information as to the best methods of treatment. A Manual of Surgical Treatment 1912-13 by William Watson Cheyne Pdf

Excerpt from A Manual of Surgical Treatment 1912-13 Since the first edition of this work was published many changes have naturally occurred in the field of Surgical Treatment. Attempts have been made from time to time to incorporate the most essential of these in successive impressions, but it is always difficult to interpolate new matter of this kind satisfactorily without extensive revision of the entire work. It has therefore seemed best to revise the matter throughout and to alter in it whatsoever was necessary to bring it up to date. The original scheme of the work has been adhered to; to depart from it would have been to abandon the fundamental idea upon which it was based. Every part of the book, however, has been thoroughly revised, and a considerable part has been re-written. The pressure of other work rendered it impossible for the original authors to undertake a task of such magnitude with any hope of being able to complete it within a reasonable time. In Messrs. T. P. Legg and Arthur Edmunds they have been fortunate in securing collaborators who have rendered their task possible, and to them they are under a great obligation. To their colleagues Dr. Silk, Dr. D'Este Emery, Dr. Arthur Whitfield and Mr. A. D. Reid, they are also much indebted for help in the several departments of treatment with which these gentlemen are specially concerned. Mr. Arthur Edmunds, in addition to his share in the revision, has provided a number of the new illustrations; Messrs. F. Butterworth and S. A. Sewell have drawn the remainder. Messrs. Down Bros., Allen & Hanburys, Barth, and others have kindly allowed the reproduction of many instrument blocks from their catalogues. Other figures have been reproduced by permission of their authors or publishers, and the source from which they are derived will be found duly acknowledged in the text. A Manual of Surgical Treatment, Vol. 3 of 7 (Classic Reprint) by William Watson Cheyne Pdf

Excerpt from A Manual of Surgical Treatment, Vol. 3 of 7 We have ourselves frequently experienced the want of detailed informa tion, especially as regards the after-treatment of our cases, and have had to learn the best methods of procedure from experience. Nothing can of course replace experience, but it is often of the greatest advantage to have a detailed record of that of others upon which to base one's work. It is this want that the present work is intended to supply. We have tried to put ourselves in the place of those who have to treat a given case for the first time, and we have endeavoured to supply them with details as to treatment from the commencement to the termination of the illness. We have assumed that the reader is familiar with the nature and diagnosis of the disease, and we only refer to the pathology and symptoms in so far as it is necessary to render intelligible the principles on which the treatment is based, and the various stages of the disease to which each particular method is applicable. We have purposely avoided attempting to give anything like a complete summary of the various methods of treatment that have from time to time been proposed: to do so would merely confuse the reader. Only those plans are described which our experience has led us to believe are the best, but with regard to these we have endeavoured to state exactly and in detail what we ourselves should do under given circumstances. In some cases no doubt several methods of treatment are of equal value, and while we have only discussed at length that which we have ourselves been led to adopt, we have referred shortly to the others. We have not mentioned all the exceptional conditions that may be met with, but we have endeavoured to include all the circumstances with which the surgeon is most commonly called upon to deal. The task has been one of some difficulty, the more so as we have had, to a certain extent, to break new ground. This must serve as our excuse for the many shortcomings in the work. A Manual for the Practice of Surgery (Classic Reprint) by Thomas Bryant Pdf

Excerpt from A Manual for the Practice of Surgery I am well aware that I have failed to realize in the execution of my task the ideal standard I at starting proposed to myself, and I knew, when I first under took to write the book, how difficult it was to compress the treatment of the vast range of subjects included. Under the title of Surgery into one volume, but my object was to Offer such an epitome of the main principles and methods Of practice as should be serviceable to the student and practitioner; and from the reception the first edition of this work, published in November, 1872, has met with in Great Britain and America, I feel justified in saying that I have not failed in the attempt, and that the book Supplied a want felt by the professional public. To the many reviewers who have acknowledged my labors so fairly and so fully my thanks are clearly due, but still more to the profession, which has wel comed my humble services so kindly. Fully alive, therefore, to the generous appreciation of my past work, and assur ing my readers that no pains have been spared to bring the present up to as high a standard as my time and Opportunities have allowed, I submit it in all confidence to the kind consideration of mv professional brethren as no unworthy exposition of modern British surgery. A Short Manual of Surgical Operations (Classic Reprint) by Arthur E. J. Barker Pdf

Excerpt from A Short Manual of Surgical Operations To the defects incidental to this plan of treatment of such a wide subject the author is fully alive. But it is hoped that these short sketches from the hand of one who has been in the midst of Operative surgery for many years may be of use to 'others, and may be none the less so that they are coloured in almost every case largely by his own personal experience. Surgical After-Treatment by L. R. G. Crandon Pdf

Excerpt from Surgical After-Treatment: A Manual of the Conduct of Surgical Convalescence The gratifying reception which has been accorded this book has encouraged us to undertake its revision. We have attempted to modify and add to the presentation Of each subject as the shift of medical opinion and the advance Of surgical knowledge have required. As a result, the volume has been largely recast; some chapters have been entirely rewritten and others nearly so; several illustrations have been replaced by better ones, and many new ones have been added. We have received great help from the kindly criticisms Of our friends, and we believe that we here present a book which may be taken, as it were, to the bedside with full confidence in the assist ance it will afford in the recognition of the complications of the postoperative period, and reliance on the specific directions as to treatment which it Offers. Surgical Handicraft by Walter Pye Pdf

Excerpt from Surgical Handicraft: A Manual of Surgical Manipulations, Minor Surgery, and Other Matters Connected With the Work of House Surgeons and Surgical Dressers This main idea I have wished to express in the title I have chosen, and it has been very far from my desire to write in any sense an elementary work on theoretical surgery. Still I am conscious of having been forced in some places to treat of abstract surgical questions, and to sacrifice absolute consistency if by so doing I could better explain necessary manipulations.
