A Model of Software Project Management Dynamics (Classic Reprint) by Tarek K. Abdel-Hamid Pdf

Excerpt from A Model of Software Project Management Dynamics This paper is a study of the dynamics of software project management. In Section (I) we argue for the attractiveness of using computer modeling techniques in the study and design of complex social systems. In particular, we advocate the use of the modeling, simulation, and analysis techniques of System Dynamics. In Section (II) we, then, present a System Dynamics model we developed for software project management. The model's three major subsystems: the human resource management subsystem, the planning and control subsystem, and the software production subsystem, are discussed in some detail. Finally, in Section (III), the dynamic behavior of the model is analyzed using a series of simulation runs. Supporting the Understanding of Team Dynamics in Agile Software Development Through Computer-Aided Sprint Feedback by Fabian Kortum Pdf

While modern project management systems support teams during planning and development activities, primarily through performance-related process information, the equally relevant human factors are often insufficiently considered for explaining team dynamics (e.g., the affect of moods in teams). However, understanding team behavioral patterns are crucial for the accurate planning and steady execution of development tasks throughout an ongoing project. A computer-aided feedback concept is described, unifying interdisciplinary foundations and methods from the software engineering, data science, organizational, and social psychology fields for disclosing team dynamics in agile software projects. The concept covers the systematic capture of sociotechnical data combined with descriptive, predictive, and exploratory model-based methods that support understanding behavioural changes during the development process. Design science from information systems research is used in academic and industrial case studies to conceptualize and operationalize the feedback methods into a practical Jira plugin. A concluding evaluation through an action research method in two industrial software projects results in quantitative and qualitative findings regarding the feedback utilization and utility during agile development processes (e.g., team communication changes related to accomplished performances). The case studies underscore the practical relevance for systematic feedback and the need to better understand human factors in software projects.

Software Management by Donald J. Reifer Pdf

This Seventh Edition of Donald Reifer's popular, bestselling tutorial summarizes what software project managers need to know to be successful on the job. The text provides pointers and approaches to deal with the issues, challenges, and experiences that shape their thoughts and performance. To accomplish its goals, the volume explores recent advances in dissimilar fields such as management theory, acquisition management, globalization, knowledge management, licensing, motivation theory, process improvement, organization dynamics, subcontract management, and technology transfer. Software Management provides software managers at all levels of the organization with the information they need to know to develop their software engineering management strategies for now and the future. The book provides insight into management tools and techniques that work in practice. It also provides sufficient instructional materials to serve as a text for a course in software management. This new edition achieves a balance between theory and practical experience. Reifer systematically addresses the skills, knowledge, and abilities that software managers, at any level of experience, need to have to practice their profession effectively. This book contains original articles by leaders in the software management field written specifically for this tutorial, as well as a collection of applicable reprints. About forty percent of the material in this edition has been produced specifically for the tutorial. Contents: * Introduction * Life Cycle Models * Process Improvement * Project Management * Planning Fundamentals * Software Estimating * Organizing for Success * Staffing Essentials * Direction Advice * Visibility and Control * Software Risk Management * Metrics and Measurement * Acquisition Management * Emerging Management Topics "The challenges faced by software project managers are the gap between what the customers can envision and the reality on the ground and how to deal with the risks associated with this gap in delivering a product that meets requirements on time and schedule at the target costs. This tutorial hits the mark by providing project managers, practitioners, and educators with source materials on how project managers can effectively deal with this risk." -Dr. Kenneth E. Nidiffer, Systems & Software Consortium, Inc. "The volume has evolved into a solid set of foundation works for anyone trying to practice software management in a world that is increasingly dependent on software release quality, timeliness, and productivity." -Walker Royce, Vice President, IBM Software Services-Rational

Information Systems Architecture and Technology: Proceedings of 40th Anniversary International Conference on Information Systems Architecture and Technology – ISAT 2019 by Zofia Wilimowska,Leszek Borzemski,Jerzy Świątek Pdf

This three-volume book highlights significant advances in the development of new information systems technologies and architectures. Further, it helps readers solve specific research and analytical problems and glean useful knowledge and business value from data. Each chapter provides an analysis of a specific technical problem, followed by a numerical analysis, simulation, and implementation of the solution to the real-world problem. Managing an organization, especially in today’s rapidly changing environment, is a highly complex process. Increased competition in the marketplace, especially as a result of the massive and successful entry of foreign businesses into domestic markets, changes in consumer behaviour, and broader access to new technologies and information, calls for organisational restructuring and the introduction and modification of management methods using the latest scientific advances. This situation has prompted various decision-making bodies to introduce computer modelling of organization management systems. This book presents the peer-reviewed proceedings of the 40th Anniversary International Conference “Information Systems Architecture and Technology” (ISAT), held on September 15–17, 2019, in Wrocław, Poland. The conference was organised by the Computer Science Department, Faculty of Computer Science and Management, Wroclaw University of Sciences and Technology, and University of Applied Sciences in Nysa, Poland. The papers have been grouped into three major sections: Part I—discusses topics including, but not limited to, artificial intelligence methods, knowledge discovery and data mining, big data, knowledge-based management, Internet of Things, cloud computing and high-performance computing, distributed computer systems, content delivery networks, and service-oriented computing. Part II—addresses various topics, such as system modelling for control, recognition and decision support, mathematical modelling in computer system design, service-oriented systems, and cloud computing, and complex process modelling. Part III—focuses on a number of themes, like knowledge-based management, modelling of financial and investment decisions, modelling of managerial decisions, production systems management, and maintenance, risk management, small business management, and theories and models of innovation.
