The Fruit of the Spirit by Al L. Holloway Pdf

Though the schism of valuing spirituality with respect to social work practice has lessened over the years, there continues to be a gap in our understanding as to exactly what spirituality is and how one might incorporate it within social work practice? It is my contention that social workers should not only be incorporating spirituality within their practice, but also, they should become spiritual exemplars themselves. Fruit of the Spirit: A Primer for Spiritually-minded Social Workers provides some provocative notions that will spur the reader forward on his/her spiritual development. It introduces to the reader the notion of spiritual differentiation from the animalistic notion of self (which I describe as the "indifferent-heart realm"), to the development of humanistic principles ("craving-heart realm") to the ultimate experience of our purposeful journey of being fully cognizant of our spiritual selves ("pure-heart realm"). This process is exemplified with a gardening metaphor, which the reader can progress from "seeding" (awareness of one's spiritual self and the sowing of spiritual seeds), "weeding" (the structure and care of developing our spiritual selves) and the "harvesting" (the ingesting and granting of spiritual "fruits" that has been produced). Traditional knowledge of social work practice helps to elucidate the student; whereas, embracing spiritual principles is about transforming and transcending the student to higher levels. The "fruits" that are gathered are the attributes of God (e.g., love, peace, goodness, etc.). There are exercises at the end of each chapter that will assist the reader in developing his/her spirituality.

A Primer for Spiritually Thinking Educators by Mark Riccio Pdf

This new translation of Rudolf Steiner's "Education of the Child in light of Spiritual Science" attempts to keep the integrity of the original German text and it also comes with a 'study guide' on how to understand and meditate on the wave-like thought-forms Steiner used in his writings. Based on the work of George O'Neil and Florin Lowndes, this is the first English translation of Steiner's work that elucidates how he composed his essays, his organic living method of writing. For those unfamiliar with Steiner's work, Steiner wrote the first essay describing what a spiritual education should be. It is unique in the history of education. Although written for Waldorf teachers anyone who is interested in education from a spiritual point of view could enjoy it.

On the Threshold by Randolph Bowers Pdf

As a personal mirror for self-awareness and growth, On the Threshold is a practical guidebook for the development of spiritual strengths and capacities. Reflective narrative chapters followed by activities encourage experiential learning, assisting the reader to integrate their knowledge in practice. Themes that guide the work relate to ancient and contemporary methods of awakening that are grounded within relations of respect for ecology, family and the earth around us. The chapters are built symbolically around an eightfold path guided by the sacred directions of western mysticism. Topics include learning about your personal potential and spiritual power; actively becoming conscious and making decisions about your personal growth and spiritual life; regaining the spirit of youth; awakening the elder within; acknowledging personal strengths while attending weaknesses in supportive ways; learning from and engaging helpful reflection on life's mistakes and hardships; coming to terms with your identity and place in the world; and awakening to your inner purpose and destiny as self-defined by your own journey in personal transformation. On the Threshold provides a direct and simple pragmatic application of ancient and contemporary spiritual, cultural, social and psychological principles and teachings. The book makes spiritual awakening an accessible process for anyone who is just beginning or who is further along on the path of human and spiritual development.

Mythical Me by Richella Parham Pdf

IVP Readers' Choice Award Do you ever find yourself stuck in the comparison trap? Speaker and author Richella Parham knows what this feels like. "I couldn't break free from admiring one person's achievements, someone else's personality, another's skills, yet another's relationships. And don't get me started on how I looked at other people's appearances," she writes. "I was haunted by the admirable attributes of other people, certain that I could never match their worthiness. No matter how well-intentioned the teaching or pithy the advice, I found that most of it didn't help me change my thoughts, feelings, or actions." While there are no easy answers, Parham has identified cultural and spiritual myths about others, God, and ourselves that keep us trapped. From there the journey is a spiritual one. We can pick up practices that help us walk in the freedom of Christ with confidence in ourselves. If you've ever suffered from tortured moments of comparison on Facebook, in the office, or in the hallway at church, you'll benefit from this fresh perspective.
