Sultans and Mosques by Perween Hasan Pdf
The mosque architecture of the Independent Sultanate period (from the 14th to the 16th centuries) represents the most important element of the Islamic architecture of Bengal. In this book Perween Hasan demonstrates that the distinctive style of the region drew its inspiration from the indigenous vernacular architecture of Bengal, which was also a source for the Buddhist/Hindu temple architecture of the region. She illustrates with photographs and floor plans how the popularity of the style is rooted in the geography, ecology and culture of the area. -- Dust Jacket.

The Story of Islamic Architecture by Richard Yeomans Pdf
Beginning with a brief description of the Muslim faith, the introductory chapters of this book illustrate how religious attitudes determine the form and function of Islamic art and architecture. The book then considers the genesis of a distinctly Islamic architecture from the first monuments when the Umayyad Caliphate, bringing with it political and mercantile acumen but scarce architectural knowledge, was totally dependent on the art, craft and building skills of the indigenous population in the countries it had conquered. These early monuments illustrate how the story of Islamic architecture is one of continuing adaptation, change and innovation in response to the complex cultural and racial diversity which constitutes the Muslim nation. The book then charts the gradual evolution and eventual emergence of a distinctive Arab identity in ninth-century Iraq, Tunisia and Egypt. -- provided by publisher.

Architecture of Anxiety, Body Politics and the Formation of Islamic Architecture by Heba Mostafa Pdf
Structured as five microhistories c. 632-705, this book offers a counternarrative for the formation of Islamic architecture and the Islamic state. It adopts a novel periodization informed by moments of historical violence and anxiety around caliphal identities in flux, animating histories of the minbar, throne, and maqsura as a principal nexus for navigating this anxiety. It expands outward to re-assess the mosque and palace with a focus on the Qubbat al-Khadraʾ and the Dar al-Imara in Kufa. It culminates in a reading of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem as a site where eschatological anxieties and political survival converge.
