A Tribute to African Civilization by Kasala Kamara Pdf

In sharp refreshing contrast to the punch drunk propaganda hurled against Africa and its offspring, Kasala Kamara has authored a cultural literary showpiece of Africa and all of its glory. This comprehensive compendium clarifies the call to acknowledge Diaspora interconnection and the need for unification. Sene Press is to be commended for dedicating resources to this much needed work. Kamara selects the best in literary quotes/references on Africa to soundly defeat confusing religious/political dogma/indoctrination. He sites the great works of Dr. Yosef ben-Jochannan, George G. M. James, Steven Biko, Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Amos Wilson, and many others. The reader need not worry about cross references since this modest book of 133 pages has over 100 references of African and non-African reputable scholars. This African literary gem though highly concentrated is an extremely smooth flowing and well compartmentalized read suited for classrooms or independent researchers alike. Its reader-friendly format makes for an excellent introductory book on Africa by covering such diverse subjects as law, politics, science, and cultural customs to name a few. After reading this book readers will insist that the greatest international monetary debt and homage is owed to Africa. Kamara states and proves that "Africa is rightfully known as the birthplace of humanity, the cradle of civilization." The "Re-emergence of Africa as a world power" as Kamara boldly affirms is sure to follow.

Foundations of an African Civilization by D. W. Phillipson Pdf

"Focuses on the Aksumite state of the first millennium AD in northern Ethiopia and southern Eritrea, its development, florescence and eventual transformation into the so-called medieval civilisation of Christian Ethiopia. This book seeks to apply a common methodology, utilising archaeology, art-history, written documents and oral tradition from a wide variety of sources; the result is a far greater emphasis on continuity than previous studies have revealed. It is thus a major re-interpretation of a key development in Ethiopia's past, while raising and discussing methodological issues of the relationship between archaeology and other historical disciplines; these issues, which have theoretical significance extending far beyond Ethiopia, are discussed in full. The last millennium BC is seen as a time when northern Ethiopia and parts of Eritrea were inhabited by farming peoples whose ancestry may be traced far back into the local 'Late Stone Age'. Colonisation from southern Arabia, to which defining importance has been attached by earlier researchers, is now seen to have been brief in duration and small in scale, its effects largely restricted to ľite sections of the community. Re-consideration of inscriptions shows the need to abandon the established belief in a single 'Pre-Aksumite' state. New evidence for the rise of Aksum during the last centuries BC is critically evaluated. Finally, new chronological precision is provided for the decline of Aksum and the transfer of centralised political authority to more southerly regions. A new study of the ancient churches - both built and rock-hewn - which survive from this poorly-understood period emphasises once again a strong degree of continuity across periods that were previously regarded as distinct."--Publisher's website.

A Tribute for the Negro by Wilson Armistead Pdf

The purport of the present volume, in contradistinction to the idea of the Negro being designed only for a servile condition, is to demonstrate that the Sable inhabitants of Africa are capable of occupying a position in society very superior to that which has been generally assigned to them. -from the Preface This extraordinary book, first published in 1848, serves as both an angry denunciation of the "terrible institution" of slavery in the United States and a celebration of the survival and achievements of Africans in America in the pre-Civil War era. A Tribute for the Negro: .explains the "sin of slavery" .refutes notions of the correlation of intellectual ability to skin color .explores the history of slavery across the globe .discusses the "pernicious influence of slavery" .mounts an impassioned defense of African culture .offers numerous biographical accounts of slave life in America. An important document of the North American slave experience-and of the abolitionist movement it inspired both in the States and abroad-this is must reading for anyone interested in this most shameful aspect of American history. British writer WILSON ARMISTEAD (1819¬-1868) was a correspondent of Charles Darwin. He also wrote Anthony Benezet (1859).
