A Universe Of Consciousness by Gerald M. Edelman,Giulio Tononi Pdf

What goes on in our head when we have a thought? Why do the physical events that occur inside a fistful of gelatinous tissue give rise to the world of conscious experience? In The Universe of Consciousness , Gerald Edelman and Giulio Tononi present for the first time a full-scale theory of consciousness based on direct observation of the human brain in action. Their pioneering work, presented here in an elegant style, challenges much of the conventional wisdom about consciousness. The Universe of Consciousness has enormous implications for our understanding of language, thought, emotion, and mental illness.

The New Science of Consciousness Survival and the Metaparadigm Shift to a Conscious Universe by Dr. Alan Ross Hugenot Pdf

"Alan Hugenot" lectures on “the Leading-Edge Science of the Afterlife,… he concluded that the entire universe is conscious and that this explains both near-death experiences and certain paradoxes of quantum theory…. As someone with a physics degree, I know that Hugenot’s….basic idea of a conscious universe is neither crazy nor new…. Erwin Schrödinger, one of the fathers of quantum physics, was an avid student of Hindu philosophy, and believed something similar." Gideon Lichfield, April 2015 Atlantic Monthly “The existence of a hidden field (Bohm’s implicate order) of non-physical consciousness, occupying as yet undiscerned additional dimensions, which are outside the visible reality (Bohm’s explicate order) as defined by 3-D plus time, has now been proven scientifically by the following collated data: Recent repeated replication of John Bell’s theory of non-locality, Studies of the Near-Death experience, and After-death communications demonstrated in triple blind laboratory experiments testing evidential mediumship This hidden field (implicate order) of non-physical consciousness, also provides the matrix upon which the explicate order of observed reality is continually manifested." Alan Hugenot “Our challenge is to discover, through careful science, how we can interface with this matrix of consciousness. Viewing psi phenomena as belonging to aspects of reality, about which we as yet simply know very little, is the only honest way for any scientist to proceed. Healthy scientific skepticism must be open to new discoveries; and so allow open examination of the scientific data developed by rigorous para-normal research. Honest, open minded inquiry will bring both new discoveries of truth and new laws of physics beyond the limits of the Newtonian paradigm. Alan Hugenot

The Human World in the Physical Universe by Nicholas Maxwell Pdf

How is it possible for the world as we experience it to exist embedded in the physical universe? How can there be sensory qualities, consciousness, freedom, science and art, friendship, love, justice--all that which gives meaning and value to life--if the world really is more or less as modern science tells us it is? This is the problem that is tackled by this book. The solution proposed is that physics describes only a selected aspect of all that exists--that aspect which determines the way events unfold. Sensory qualities, inner experiences, consciousness, meaning and value, all these exist but lie beyond the scope of physics, and of that part of science that can be reduced to physics. Furthermore, these human features of the world are to be explained and understood, not scientifically, but "personalistically," a kind of understanding distinct from, and not reducible to, science. This view that the world is riddled with what may be called "double comprehensibility" leads to a proposed solution to the philosophical mind/body problem, and to the problem of free will; it leads to a reinterpretation of Darwin's theory of evolution, and to an account of the evolution of consciousness and free will. After a discussion of the location of consciousness in the brain, the book concludes with a proposal as to how academic inquiry might be changed so that it becomes a kind of inquiry rationally designed to help humanity create a more civilized human world in the physical universe.

Biocentrism by Robert Lanza,Bob Berman Pdf

Robert Lanza is one of the most respected scientists in the world — a US News & World Report cover story called him a “genius" and a “renegade thinker," even likening him to Einstein. Lanza has teamed with Bob Berman, the most widely read astronomer in the world, to produce Biocentrism, a revolutionary new view of the universe. Every now and then a simple yet radical idea shakes the very foundations of knowledge. The startling discovery that the world was not flat challenged and ultimately changed the way people perceived themselves and their relationship with the world. For most humans of the 15th century, the notion of Earth as ball of rock was nonsense. The whole of Western, natural philosophy is undergoing a sea change again, increasingly being forced upon us by the experimental findings of quantum theory, and at the same time, towards doubt and uncertainty in the physical explanations of the universe's genesis and structure. Biocentrism completes this shift in worldview, turning the planet upside down again with the revolutionary view that life creates the universe instead of the other way around. In this paradigm, life is not an accidental byproduct of the laws of physics. Biocetnrism takes the reader on a seemingly improbable but ultimately inescapable journey through a foreign universe—our own—from the viewpoints of an acclaimed biologist and a leading astronomer. Switching perspective from physics to biology unlocks the cages in which Western science has unwittingly managed to confine itself. Biocentrism will shatter the reader's ideas of life--time and space, and even death. At the same time it will release us from the dull worldview of life being merely the activity of an admixture of carbon and a few other elements; it suggests the exhilarating possibility that life is fundamentally immortal. The 21st century is predicted to be the Century of Biology, a shift from the previous century dominated by physics. It seems fitting, then, to begin the century by turning the universe outside-in and unifying the foundations of science with a simple idea discovered by one of the leading life-scientists of our age. Biocentrism awakens in readers a new sense of possibility, and is full of so many shocking new perspectives that the reader will never see reality the same way again.

Science & Consciousness by M. Cazenave Pdf

This book explores the concept of consciousness when defined in the terms mind, spirit, soul and awareness. It consists of the edited proceedings of a colloquium held in Cordoba, at which experts in physics, neuro- and psycho-physiology, analytical psychology, philosophy and religious knowledge discussed aspects of their work related to this main theme. The following areas are covered: quantum mechanics and the role of consciousness, neurophysiology and states of consciousness, the manifestation of the psyche in consciousness, the odyssey of consciousness, and science and consciousness. The discussions which follow give a multi-disciplinary perspective on the questions involved.

Email to the Universe by Robert Anton Wilson Pdf

Robert Anton Wilson's final book explores the "relativity of reality" in a mind-bending stream of essays. Among other topics, the master of guerrilla ontology examines The Celtic Roots Of Quantum Theory, Schrödinger's Other Cat, Joyce & Daoism, Sexual Alchemy, Left and Right: A Non-Euclidean Perspective, and Cheerful Reflections On Death And Dying. RAW's description of his run for Governor of California as the candidate for his Guns & Dope Party offers a delightfully absurd view of an improbable Maybe in terrestrial politics. "I wrote these polemics, poems, neurolinguistic experiments and assorted meanderings over a period of about 45 years," and in reflecting on this extraordinary collection of his writings, the brilliant and modest Model Agnostic adds, "I don't believe anything, but I have many suspicions . . . These suspicions have grown over 72 years, but as a rather slow and stupid fellow I do not have the Chutzpah to proclaim any of them as certitudes." "A SUPER GENIUS . . . He has written everything I was afraid to write." - Dr. John Lilly, writer, neuroscientist and psychonaut "One of the leading thinkers of the modern age." - Barbara Marx Hubbard, Foundation for Conscious Evolution "A masterful satirist who views history as an open question." - Brad Linaweaver, Atlanta Constitution "I have learned more from Robert Anton Wilson than I have from any other source." - Comedian George Carlin

Molecular Consciousness by Françoise Tibika Pdf

Mind and matter are connected through information at the atomic level • Explains how your state of mind is profoundly related to the flow of chemical information during the interactions of your molecules • Reveals how each atom of the universe is intrinsically linked with all other atoms through their memories and the information they carry • Explores the concrete manifestations of this “molecular consciousness,” such as intuition and the appearance of life on Earth The molecules of living organisms are in constant communication, storing and transmitting information both at the intracellular level as well as across vast distances. The mystery of how this communication occurs--whether through molecular structure, chemical reactions, entangled states, or some other method--has baffled biologists, chemists, and quantum physicists for more than a century. Revealing the intimate connections between mind and matter, Françoise Tibika explains that conscious communication exists all the way down to the very molecules of which we--and the universe--are made. Using the fundamental laws of thermodynamics to support her argument--especially the first law: “energy is neither created nor destroyed”--as well as modern scientific research in quantum physics and molecular biology, Tibika explores how each imperishable atom of the universe is intrinsically linked with all other atoms through their memories and the information they carry. She shows not only how each atom of your being is part of the greater whole of the universe but also how your thoughts, feelings, and state of mind are profoundly related to the activity of each of your molecules. Just as we are undergoing constant transformation by the molecules surrounding us, our own molecules are continuously transforming the network of which we are a part. Exploring the concrete manifestations of this molecular consciousness, such as intuition, Tibika reveals how, through effecting conscious change at the molecular level, our actions have far-reaching significance in a universe that is not blind to our presence.

The Nature of Consciousness, the Universe and Everything by Alex Milov Pdf

An evidenced-based compilation of findings across disciplines supported by direct observations and the formal experiments of peer review research. What does it mean to know? Are plants conscious? Is the waggle dance of the honeybee a language? Do fish dream? Can squirrel monkeys learn to perceive the color red? Do chimpanzees lie? In charting the development of consciousness across species the nature of human consciousness is revealed and healthy life choices become clear. In the process, we discover some surprising implications for the ideas of self-concept and free-will. The information compiled here allows for nothing less than an awakening as to who we are in the universe. Though the evidence comes from naturalistic observations and the methods are based on the principles of science, the destination is ultimately spiritual.

You Are the Universe by Deepak Chopra, M.D.,Menas C. Kafatos, Ph.D. Pdf

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Deepak Chopra joins forces with leading physicist Menas Kafatos to explore some of the most important and baffling questions about our place in the world. "A riveting and absolutely fascinating adventure that will blow your mind wide open!" —Dr. Rudolph E. Tanzi What happens when modern science reaches a crucial turning point that challenges everything we know about reality? In this brilliant, timely, and practical work, Chopra and Kafatos tell us that we've reached just such a point. In the coming era, the universe will be completely redefined as a "human universe" radically unlike the cold, empty void where human life is barely a speck in the cosmos. You Are the Universe literally means what it says--each of us is a co-creator of reality extending to the vastest reaches of time and space. This seemingly impossible proposition follows from the current state of science, where outside the public eye, some key mysteries cannot be solved, even though they are the very issues that define reality itself: • What Came Before the Big Bang? • Why Does the Universe Fit Together So Perfectly? • Where Did Time Come From? • What Is the Universe Made Of? • Is the Quantum World Linked to Everyday Life? • Do We Live in a Conscious Universe? • How Did Life First Begin? “The shift into a new paradigm is happening,” the authors write. “The answers offered in this book are not our invention or eccentric flights of fancy. All of us live in a participatory universe. Once you decide that you want to participate fully with mind, body, and soul, the paradigm shift becomes personal. The reality you inhabit will be yours either to embrace or to change.” What these two great minds offer is a bold, new understanding of who we are and how we can transform the world for the better while reaching our greatest potential.

The Feeling of Life Itself by Christof Koch Pdf

A thought-provoking argument that consciousness—more widespread than previously assumed—is the feeling of being alive, not a type of computation or a clever hack In The Feeling of Life Itself, Christof Koch offers a straightforward definition of consciousness as any subjective experience, from the most mundane to the most exalted—the feeling of being alive. Psychologists study which cognitive operations underpin a given conscious perception. Neuroscientists track the neural correlates of consciousness in the brain, the organ of the mind. But why the brain and not, say, the liver? How can the brain—three pounds of highly excitable matter, a piece of furniture in the universe, subject to the same laws of physics as any other piece—give rise to subjective experience? Koch argues that what is needed to answer these questions is a quantitative theory that starts with experience and proceeds to the brain. In The Feeling of Life Itself, Koch outlines such a theory, based on integrated information. Koch describes how the theory explains many facts about the neurology of consciousness and how it has been used to build a clinically useful consciousness meter. The theory predicts that many, and perhaps all, animals experience the sights and sounds of life; consciousness is much more widespread than conventionally assumed. Contrary to received wisdom, however, Koch argues that programmable computers will not have consciousness. Even a perfect software model of the brain is not conscious. Its simulation is fake consciousness. Consciousness is not a special type of computation—it is not a clever hack. Consciousness is about being.
