Abstract Proceeding ICGD 2018: Gender and Development in Changing Society by Participant of International Conference on Gender and Development (ICGD) 2018 Pdf

International Conference on Gender and Development (ICGD) 2018 was held on the campus of Hasanuddin University in Makassar during 10-11 July 2018. In this activity, 91 abstracts of scientific papers will be presented so that it has many useful discussions and exchanges that contribute to the success of the conference. The 91 abstracts that were presented on the first two days formed the heart of the conference and provided ample opportunity for discussion. This change, allowing the conference to end with invited talks, was a departure from the format used at previous ICGD gatherings in which the conferences ended with a poster session. The abstracts were split almost equally between the ten sub themes. Of the abstracts presented, 91 of which are included in the volume of this process, P3KG Hasanuddin University for the first time publishes an abstract and collaborates with SIGn publishers.

Gender Economics: Breakthroughs in Research and Practice by Management Association, Information Resources Pdf

Gender Economics challenges current economic theory, targeting the way gender is often used for economic gain or increased market share. Experts realize that company growth can no longer be achieved by taking a conventional approach, but few follow through with introducing new frameworks that change the way diversity is treated. Gender Economics: Breakthroughs in Research and Practice features current research that combines the concepts of gender theory, sociology, and economics observing how diversity influences numerous dimensions of business and consumerism. Covering topics including gender empowerment and also bias, economic equality, industrial creativity, leadership, and the impact of social connectedness on life satisfaction, this publication is an ideal reference source for legislators and policymakers, economic developers, corporate practitioners, educational faculties, academicians, researchers, and graduate-level students of all disciplines.

Myxozoan Evolution, Ecology and Development by Beth Okamura,Alexander Gruhl,Jerri L. Bartholomew Pdf

This book provides an up-to-date review of the biology of myxozoans, which represent a divergent clade of endoparasitic cnidarians. Myxozoans are of fundamental interest in understanding how early diverging metazoans have adopted parasitic lifestyles, and are also of considerable economic and ecological concern as endoparasites of fish. Synthesizing recent research, the chapters explore issues such as myxozoan origins; evolutionary trends and diversification; development and life cycles; interactions with hosts; immunology; disease ecology; the impacts of climate change on disease; risk assessment; emerging diseases; and disease mitigation. This comprehensive work will appeal to a wide readership, from invertebrate zoologists, evolutionary biologists and developmental biologists to ecologists and parasitologists. It will also be of great practical interest to fisheries and conservation biologists. The identification of key areas for future research will appeal to scientists at all levels.

Global Fossil Fuel Subsidies Remain Large: An Update Based on Country-Level Estimates by Mr.David Coady,Ian Parry,Nghia-Piotr Le,Baoping Shang Pdf

This paper updates estimates of fossil fuel subsidies, defined as fuel consumption times the gap between existing and efficient prices (i.e., prices warranted by supply costs, environmental costs, and revenue considerations), for 191 countries. Globally, subsidies remained large at $4.7 trillion (6.3 percent of global GDP) in 2015 and are projected at $5.2 trillion (6.5 percent of GDP) in 2017. The largest subsidizers in 2015 were China ($1.4 trillion), United States ($649 billion), Russia ($551 billion), European Union ($289 billion), and India ($209 billion). About three quarters of global subsidies are due to domestic factors—energy pricing reform thus remains largely in countries’ own national interest—while coal and petroleum together account for 85 percent of global subsidies. Efficient fossil fuel pricing in 2015 would have lowered global carbon emissions by 28 percent and fossil fuel air pollution deaths by 46 percent, and increased government revenue by 3.8 percent of GDP.

Peak Everything by Richard Heinberg Pdf

The 20th century saw unprecedented growth in population, energy consumption and food production. As the population shifted from rural to urban, human impacts on the environment increased dramatically. The 21st century ushered in an era of declines, including: Oil, natural gas and coal extraction Yearly grain harvests Climate stability Economic growth Fresh water Minerals and ores, such as copper and platinum To adapt to this profoundly different world, we must begin now to make radical changes to our attitudes, behaviors and expectations. Now in paperback and featuring a foreword by James Howard Kunstler, Peak Everything addresses many of the cultural, psychological and practical changes we will have to make as nature dictates our new limits. This landmark work from Richard Heinberg, author of three of the most important books on Peak Oil, touches on vital aspects of the human condition at this unique moment in time. A combination of wry commentary and sober forecasting on subjects as diverse as farming and industrial design, this book describes how to make the transition from The Age of Excess to the Era of Modesty with grace and satisfaction, while preserving the best of our collective achievements. Peak Everything is a must-read for individuals, business leaders and policy makers serious about effecting real change.

Development and Environment by Warren Burggren,Benjamin Dubansky Pdf

Rather than a loosely connected list of facts/topics, this book addresses virtually every field that involves the use of developing animals in environmental science. In doing so, it will help define the scientific collective within these fields to both those readers who are "outside" of a particular field (students and professionals alike) and those who work within said field, where multiple iterations of the same job description exist. Both the content and choice of authors fully support this goal, as the editors and contributing authors represent contemporary thought and experimentation in their respective fields – ranging from developmental physiology through environmental toxicology to medicine. As such, this work will appeal to a broad audience, including any scientist or trainee interested in the nexus of environment, development and physiology.

The Evolution and Fossil Record of Parasitism by Kenneth De Baets,John Warren Huntley Pdf

This two-volume edited book highlights and reviews the potential of the fossil record to calibrate the origin and evolution of parasitism, and the techniques to understand the development of parasite-host associations and their relationships with environmental and ecological changes. The book deploys a broad and comprehensive approach, aimed at understanding the origins and developments of various parasite groups, in order to provide a wider evolutionary picture of parasitism as part of biodiversity. This is in contrast to most contributions by parasitologists in the literature that focus on circular lines of evidence, such as extrapolating from current host associations or distributions, to estimate constraints on the timing of the origin and evolution of various parasite groups. This approach is narrow and fails to provide the wider evolutionary picture of parasitism on, and as part of, biodiversity. Volume one focuses on identifying parasitism in the fossil record, and sheds light on the distribution and ecological importance of parasite-host interactions over time. In order to better understand the evolutionary history of parasites and their relationship with changes in the environment, emphasis is given to viruses, bacteria, protists and multicellular eukaryotes as parasites. Particular attention is given to fungi and metazoans such as bivalves, cnidarians, crustaceans, gastropods, helminths, insects, mites and ticks as parasites. Researchers, specifically evolutionary (paleo)biologists and parasitologists, interested in the evolutionary history of parasite-host interactions as well as students studying parasitism will find this book appealing.

Processing and Impact on Active Components in Food by Victor R. Preedy Pdf

From beef to baked goods, fish to flour, antioxidants are added to preserve the shelf life of foods and ensure consumer acceptability. These production-added components may also contribute to the overall availability of essential nutrients for intake as well as the prevention of the development of unwelcome product characteristics such as off-flavours or colours. However, there are processes that reduce the amount of naturally occurring antioxidants and awareness of that potential is just as important for those in product research and development. There is a practical need to understand not only the physiological importance of antioxidants in terms of consumer health benefit, but how they may be damaged or enhanced through the processing and packaging phases. This book presents information key to understanding how antioxidants change during production of a wide variety of food products, with a focus toward how this understanding may be translated effectively to other foods as well. Addresses how the composition of food is altered, the analytical techniques used, and the applications to other foods Presents in-chapter summary points and other translational insights into concepts, techniques, findings and approaches to processing of other foods Explores advances in analytical and methodological science within each chapter

Construction Safety by Rita Yi Man Li,Sun Wah Poon Pdf

A close-to-ideal blend of suburb and city, speedy construction of towers of Babylon, the sparkling proportion of glass and steel buildings’ facade at night showcase the wisdom of humans. They also witness the footsteps, sweats and tears of architects and engineers. Unfortunately, these signatures of human civilizations are swathed in towering figures of construction accidents. Fretting about these on sites, different countries adopt different measures on sites. This book firstly sketches the construction accidents on sites, followed by a review on safety measures in some of the developing countries such as Bermuda, Egypt, Kuwait and China; as well as developed countries, for example, the United States, France and Singapore. It also highlights the enormous compensation costs with the courts’ experiences in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.
