Aging Management of Nuclear Power Plant Containments for License Renewal by W. C. Liu,P. T. Kuo,S. S. Lee Pdf

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) published its license renewal rule, Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 54, on May 8, 1995, providing the requirements for renewal of operating licenses for nuclear power plants. 10 CFR 54.21(a)(1)(i) requires an aging management review of containment structures to ensure that the effects of aging will be managed so that their intended functions will be maintained for the period of extended operation. In 1990, the Nuclear Management and Resources Council (NUMARC), now the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), submitted for NRC review, the industry reports (IRs), NUMARC Report 90–01 and NUMARC Report 90–10, addressing aging management issues associated with PWR containments and BWR containments for license renewal, respectively.

Ageing Management of Concrete Structures in Nuclear Power Plants by International Atomic Energy Agency Pdf

This publication is one in a series of reports on the assessment and management of ageing of major nuclear power plant (NPP) components. Current practices for assessment of safety margins (fitness for service) and inspection, monitoring and mitigation of ageing related degradation of selected concrete structures related to NPPs are documented. Implications for and differences in new reactor designs are discussed. This information is intended to help all involved directly and indirectly in ensuring the safe operation of NPPs, and also to provide a common technical basis for dialogue between plant operators and regulators when dealing with age related licensing issues.

Selected Topics on Aging Management, Reliability, Safety, and License Renewal by Vikram N. Shah,F. L. Cho Pdf

Annotation The role of aging and risk management in safe operation and life extension of nuclear power plants and petrochemical plants is explored in these papers from an August 2002 conference. Structural, mechanical, heat transfer, thermal, hydraulic, fatigue, fracture, and creep problems are addressed. Papers topics include generic aging management programs for license renewal of PWR reactor coolant system components, high-cycle analytical thermal fatigue test of pipe structures, managing aging of coatings for nuclear plant license renewal, and signal processing for lifetime management. Subjects examined in the category of reliability and safety include a logic model approach to conceptual design of scientific/industrial complexes, and risk-based maintenance. There is no subject index. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).

Performance Assessment of Concrete Structures and Engineered Barriers for Nuclear Applications by Valérie L'Hostis,Robert Gens Pdf

The main outcomes of RILEM TC-226-CNM are summarized in this book. Key input was provided by researchers from countries that are main contributors in the R&D, design, construction, operation, and regulation of waste nuclear reinforced concrete facilities. Nuclear power plants and many of the facilities and structures used for the management of radioactive waste materials generated by the fuel cycle use concrete in their construction. RILEM TC 226 CNM covered several areas including functional and performance requirements for concrete structures; degradation processes; phenomenological modelling, field experiences, tests approaches, instrumentation and monitoring methods dedicated to performance assessments; service-life models; aging Management of Nuclear Power Plants, repair techniques; codes and standards specific to radioactive waste facilities.

Proceedings of the 23rd Pacific Basin Nuclear Conference, Volume 2 by Chengmin Liu Pdf

“This is the second in a series of three volumes of proceedings of the 23rd Pacific Basin Nuclear Conference (PBNC 2022) which was held by Chinese Nuclear Society. As one in the most important and influential conference series of nuclear science and technology, the 23rd PBNC was held in Beijing and Chengdu, China in 2022 with the theme “Nuclear Innovation for Zero-carbon Future”. For taking solid steps toward the goals of achieving peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality, future-oriented nuclear energy should be developed in an innovative way for meeting global energy demands and coordinating the deployment mechanism. It brought together outstanding nuclear scientists and technical experts, senior industry executives, senior government officials and international energy organization leaders from all across the world. The proceedings highlight the latest scientific, technological and industrial advances in Nuclear Safety and Security, Operations and Maintenance, New Builds, Waste Management, Spent Fuel, Decommissioning, Supply Capability and Quality Management, Fuel Cycles, Digital Reactor and New Technology, Innovative Reactors and New Applications, Irradiation Effects, Public Acceptance and Education, Economics, Medical and Biological Applications, and also the student program that intends to raise students’ awareness in fully engaging in this career and keep them updated on the current situation and future trends. These proceedings are not only a good summary of the frontiers in nuclear science and technology, but also a useful guideline for the researchers, engineers and graduate students.

Infrastructure Systems for Nuclear Energy by Thomas T. C. Hsu,Chiun-lin Wu,Jui-Liang Lin Pdf

Developing sufficient energy resources to replace coal, oil and gas is a globally critical necessity. Alternatives to fossil fuels such as wind, solar, or geothermal energies are desirable, but the usable quantities are limited and each has inherent deterrents. The only virtually unlimited energy source is nuclear energy, where safety of infrastructure systems is the paramount concern. Infrastructure Systems for Nuclear Energy addresses the analysis and design of infrastructures associated with nuclear energy. It provides an overview of the current and future nuclear power industry and the infrastructure systems from the perspectives of regulators, operators, practicing engineers and research academics. This book also provides details on investigations of containment structures, nuclear waste storage facilities and the applications of commercial/academic computer software. Specific environments that challenge the behavior of nuclear power plants infrastructure systems such as earthquake, blast, high temperature, irradiation effects, soil-structure interaction effect, etc., are also discussed. Key features: Includes contributions from global experts representing academia and industry Provides an overview of the nuclear power industry and nuclear infrastructure systems Presents the state-of-the-art as well as the future direction for nuclear civil infrastructure systems Infrastructure Systems for Nuclear Energy is a comprehensive, up-to-date reference for researchers and practitioners working in this field and for graduate studies in civil and mechanical engineering.
