Alien AI's Marine by Mina Carter Pdf

He's the lone human male in a sea of lethal alien warriors. He's either gifted or suicidal... Kidnapped by aliens, rescued, and now on a secret base in a system he can't even pronounce, Major Jay Stephens has given up on a wing and a prayer... he's now on kicking butt and taking names. Especially when it comes to the alien AI who's risked everything, even her 'life' to protect him. The only problem... she's gone and gotten herself a body. Beautiful and delicate, she evokes reactions in him that should be illegal. The REAL problem? An AI in physical form is totally illegal and against just about every law in Latharian society. Which means lots of lethal aliens want to kill it, and by extension, his AI. And that's going to be a problem. Because Jay thinks... no, he knows he's in love with her, and no little (large) green (totally not green) men are going to draanth up the best thing he ever had... She never wanted a body. Until she met her human marine. One of the most advanced AI's in the empire, Keris is used to being so much more than any biological could dream of. She never expected that saving a lone human would lead to her taking physical form... But a new form comes with a whole host of new problems. She's gone from being able to run a ship single-handed to struggling to co-ordinate her own two legs. And when Jay is around, her new brain quits functioning. All she can think about is the handsome human, and what his lips would feel like on hers... But when the chips are down and Jay is taken from her, she'll show them that any woman scorned is a dangerous thing, AI or not...

Invasive Species Management by Mick N. Clout,Peter A. Williams Pdf

Invasive alien species are a major and growing threat to biodiversity worldwide. The transport of organisms through increased levels of trade and tourism is leading to the widespread breaching of natural biogeographic barriers at unprecedented rates. Consequences can be severe, especially in naturally isolated ecosystems. Invasive alien species can cause the extinction of vulnerable endemic species, alter the structure and composition of communities, disrupt successional pathways, and lead to the loss of ecosystem services. Global climate change may further exacerbate the spread of alien species, as climatic zones shift and potential ranges alter. The effective management of invasive alien species is clearly a priority for biological conservation worldwide. This book first provides strategies for managing such species at successive invasion stages, from prevention at the border to control of major infestations. It then describes the general tools and approaches that are recommended for successful management of particular groups of invasive organisms in a range of environments. In each case, the ecological basis and practical requirements of invasive alien species management are addressed. This integration of proven techniques and policies will be useful to a wide readership of students, academics, conservation practitioners, invasive species managers, legislators, and to the broader community concerned with biological conservation.

This open access book presents the proceedings volume of the YOUMARES 8 conference, which took place in Kiel, Germany, in September 2017, supported by the German Association for Marine Sciences (DGM). The YOUMARES conference series is entirely bottom-up organized by and for YOUng MARine RESearchers. Qualified early career scientists moderated the scientific sessions during the conference and provided literature reviews on aspects of their research field. These reviews and the presenters’ conference abstracts are compiled here. Thus, this book discusses highly topical fields of marine research and aims to act as a source of knowledge and inspiration for further reading and research.

An Assessment of Assessments by Anonim Pdf

Despite the central role oceans play in the economic, environmental and social affairs of the planet's 6.7 billion inhabitants, significant gaps exist in our understanding and management of the complex processes at work from the global climate system, to the water cycle and circulation of nutrients, to changes affecting marine habitats. In addition, the vastness of the world's oceans have for far too long been perceived as impervious and indestructible to human impact. To deal with this situation, improved monitoring and observation practices, regular assessments to provide a deeper understanding of the status and trends of environmental changes, and the know-how and ability to prevent, mitigate and adapt to these changes are urgently required. The UN General Assembly in 2005 -- recommended that a regular process for the global reporting and assessment of the state of the marine environment, including its socio-economic aspects (Regular Process), be initiated. The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) were asked to serve as the lead agencies in the start-up phase that came to be known as the "Assessment of Assessments" (AoA). Under the AoA, an Expert Group have developed options and a framework for such a Regular Process, which can serve as the mechanism to keep the world's oceans and seas under continuing review.

Managing Hull-Borne Invasive Species and Coastal Water Quality for California... Managing Hull-Borne Invasive Species and Coastal Water Quality for California by Leigh Johnson Pdf

Fouling occurs when marine microbes, plants, and animals, and/or their spores and larvae attach and grow on the hull of a boat or ship. If they survive the trip to a distant harbor, they may spawn, release spores, or be removed and discarded there. If they succeed in the new area, they may create problems.

Climatic and Environmental Significance of Wetlands: Case Studies from Eurasia and North Africa by Ben Salem, Abdelkrim,Rhazi, Laila,Karmaoui, Ahmed Pdf

Wetlands provide a key service in an ecosystem such as providing resilience against drought and diverse habitats that support biodiversity. Because of their ephemeral character and their small size, however, these vulnerable ecosystems are declining rapidly as climate change continues to surge and human activities expand. Rational management of wet ecosystems need accompanying actions covering research, systematic observation, and more. Climatic and Environmental Significance of Wetlands: Case Studies from Eurasia and North Africa produces innovative concepts, methodologies, tools, and applications for ecosystem service valuation, wetland biodiversity conservation, fresh water supply, agricultural production, food security, wetland management, and its impact on biodiversity. It assesses the cumulative risk posed to wetland habitats and species by human activities and explores the consequences for the delivery of ecosystem services and biodiversity at local, regional, and global scales, as well as the impacts of climate change on wetland ecosystems and water resources. Covering topics such as geochemistry, invasive species, and sedimentary change, this premier reference source is an indispensable resource for government officials, engineers, environmental managers, environmentalists, students and educators of higher education, researchers, and academicians.
