A History of Fly Fishing for Trout (Classic Reprint) by John Waller Hills Pdf

Excerpt from A History of Fly Fishing for Trout From the Book of St. Albans onwards we part company with French books. There are no good ones until modern times, and these are founded on ours. Henceforth the stream runs on British soil, and it runs deep and full. But the debt which we owe to French literature must not be forgotten, a debt all the greater because it lies in the domain Of the spirit. The small amount Of fly fishing literature which does exist in France before the nineteenth century is described in Chapter IV. Trout Fishing Memories and Morals (Classic Reprint) by H. T. Sheringham Pdf

Excerpt from Trout Fishing Memories and Morals But I have decided that worthy handling of some of these interesting phenomena is beyond me, while others will receive adjustment at the hands of time and so do not call for special con sideration. Hence I add no appendix. The world, by the signs of the day, is turning, or being turned, upside down, and in a few years we may all be at the Antipodes of our former states, as old Sir Thomas Browne might have said. But it is some comfort to me that the real Anti podes are now very well furnished with trout. That being so, the figurative Antipodes will surely not be without them. The future, therefore, need not be wholly strange and alarming. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Fine Art of Fishing (Classic Reprint) by Samuel G. Camp Pdf

Excerpt from The Fine Art of Fishing While the Eastern brook trout is undoubtedly in coloration the most beautiful of all game fishes, in for mation, especially as regards very large trout of, say, three pounds or over, its position is not so clearly first. The male trout of this weight, however finely marked with var ious tints of blue, crimson, and gold, tends dangerously to aldermanic girth and, with his usual under-shot and cruel lower jaw, is rather a creature to respect for gameness and fighting-blood than to admire artistically. The quality of coloration in the brook trout, too, is dependent to a great extent upon the immediate sur roundings affected by the fish. That this is a matter Of protective coloration should go Without gainsaying. In very dark waters, well shaded and with muddy or dark ly colored bottom, the brook trout is sympathetically Of subdued coloration, sometimes almost black - a very dark purple. On the other hand, in clear streams run ning over white gravel or pebbly beds, the trout are lightly tinted and Often have a golden luster or sheen that is unequaled for beauty. The wise men tell us that variation Of color in brook trout is caused by the light acting through the nerves of the eye upon certain color glands. It is also dependent to a certain extent upon the natural food most common to the stream, trout which have an abundance of insect food being the most brilliant in coloration as well as the largest. The Science of Dry Fly Fishing and Salmon Fly Fishing (Classic Reprint) by Fred G. Shaw Pdf

Excerpt from The Science of Dry Fly Fishing and Salmon Fly Fishing This consists, in the first place, in the life-history of the salmon, from the time it is deposited as ova by the parent fish in the redd until it attains its full grown state. I have ventured, when dealing with this interesting matter, to introduce some original theories as regards those questions which are still a subject of controversy. In the second place, I have dealt with the different methods of casting, and by plates and diagrams have endeavoured to show the various casts for presenting the lure to the salmon, and explained the methods to be adopted when actually fishing. Fishing With Floating Flies (Classic Reprint) by Samuel Granger Camp Pdf

Excerpt from Fishing With Floating Flies The open season is a long one, extending, taking an average, from early in the spring, about the first of March, to the first of Octo ber; and as -a consequence of the steady and hard fishing the trout naturally become very shy and Sophisticated. Owing to the placidity of the streams the rise of a trout is not difficult to detect, and it seems to pay best to cast to a single trout actually known to be on the rise and feeding rather than to fish all the water on the principle of chuck-and-chance-it.
