All Our Trials by Emily L Thuma Pdf

During the 1970s, grassroots women activists in and outside of prisons forged a radical politics against gender violence and incarceration. Emily L. Thuma traces the making of this anticarceral feminism at the intersections of struggles for racial and economic justice, prisoners’ and psychiatric patients’ rights, and gender and sexual liberation. All Our Trials explores the organizing, ideas, and influence of those who placed criminalized and marginalized women at the heart of their antiviolence mobilizations. This activism confronted a "tough on crime" political agenda and clashed with the mainstream women’s movement’s strategy of resorting to the criminal legal system as a solution to sexual and domestic violence. Drawing on extensive archival research and first-person narratives, Thuma weaves together the stories of mass defense campaigns, prisoner uprisings, broad-based local coalitions, national gatherings, and radical print cultures that cut through prison walls. In the process, she illuminates a crucial chapter in an unfinished struggle––one that continues in today’s movements against mass incarceration and in support of transformative justice.

Psalms for Trials: Meditations on Praying the Psalms by Lindsey Tollefson Pdf

"I hope that as you start praying the Psalms, you will feel His presence in all the things that you do and you will feel His guidance through both storms and long periods of waiting. I hope that you will see God as your life and breath instead of as your religion." The Psalms are among the most beautiful poems ever written, but sometimes they feel very far from us and our daily struggles and goals. In Psalms for Trials: Meditations on Praying the Psalms by Lindsey Tollefson, we see that the Psalms are not just pious words for the religious, but they are meant to be our prayers for every trial we face, just as they have been a comfort for generations of Christians before us, including King David and the Lord Jesus. The Psalms allow us to pour ourselves out in prayer to God and to receive the comfort that comes from the promises found in His Word. This book includes forty-four bite-sized reflections on the Psalms, each ending with concrete recommendations on how to use the Psalms in your prayers and more importantly, how to live them out. After you have read this book, your prayers will never be the same again.

Justice in Conflict by Mark Kersten Pdf

What happens when the international community simultaneously pursues peace and justice in response to ongoing conflicts? What are the effects of interventions by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on the wars in which the institution intervenes? Is holding perpetrators of mass atrocities accountable a help or hindrance to conflict resolution? This book offers an in-depth examination of the effects of interventions by the ICC on peace, justice and conflict processes. The 'peace versus justice' debate, wherein it is argued that the ICC has either positive or negative effects on 'peace', has spawned in response to the Court's propensity to intervene in conflicts as they still rage. This book is a response to, and a critical engagement with, this debate. Building on theoretical and analytical insights from the fields of conflict and peace studies, conflict resolution, and negotiation theory, the book develops a novel analytical framework to study the Court's effects on peace, justice, and conflict processes. This framework is applied to two cases: Libya and northern Uganda. Drawing on extensive fieldwork, the core of the book examines the empirical effects of the ICC on each case. The book also examines why the ICC has the effects that it does, delineating the relationship between the interests of states that refer situations to the Court and the ICC's institutional interests, arguing that the negotiation of these interests determines which side of a conflict the ICC targets and thus its effects on peace, justice, and conflict processes. While the effects of the ICC's interventions are ultimately and inevitably mixed, the book makes a unique contribution to the empirical record on ICC interventions and presents a novel and sophisticated means of studying, analyzing, and understanding the effects of the Court's interventions in Libya, northern Uganda - and beyond.

Learning Through Life's Trials by Larry Richman Pdf

"You can choose to see a trial as a roadblock or an expressway. If you see it as a roadblock, it will obstruct your way. However, if you see it as an expressway, you can use it to learn and grow." "The gospel of Jesus Christ is the plan whereby we can become what God wants us to become. In fact, we become great people because of our trials, not in spite of them." This booklet reviews the nature, origins, and purposes of adversity and includes suggestions on how to patiently trust in the Lord and His eternal plan and how to use these trials to learn and grow stronger. Being Authentic by Morhaf Al Achkar Pdf

Our existence is fragile. I learned that in many intricate ways, so I do not take today for granted. I do not know what tomorrow will bring. I do not even know if tomorrow will come. On the eve of Thanksgiving 2016, I received the diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer. Next to dying, I fear the spread of cancer to my brain and losing my ability to think, speak, or write. This loss would be devastating to me.The fragility of our life made me want to be authentic. Therefore, I am writing this memoir to be authentic--we become our true selves when we author who we are. I am afraid of being forgotten. Death does frighten me. But more than dying, I am scared of having no one remember me or, even worse, of being recognized differently from who I was. At the same time, I have never thought that I was entitled to ask others not to forget me. But, not to be forgotten is precisely what I yearn for. While I am writing for the other, I am simultaneously writing for myself. I am one of the readers and will test the subject as it gets written. My criteria are stricter. I want to say, "This is my narrative."I need to be able to say, "This is my narrative."

The island killed my friends, but I survived. Now they're forcing me to go back. A month ago, Adaline and Alexander Habermann ripped me from my home and the people I care about, but that seems a lifetime ago. The twisted twins run a sinister experimental facility disguised as a rehabilitation island. They brought me here along with other Supernaturals who became my friends and fought with me for survival, but now they're gone, and I'm still here, a prisoner. But there is a new twist. The twins say I can earn my freedom, but only if I help them. They want me back on the island to guide their fresh recruits-a terrible combination of vulnerable, young wizards, and blood-thirsty vamps. What happened last time still haunts me, and I can't trust the twins' promises. But what choice do I have? I must comply or stay a prisoner. Or worse, become a victim of one of their cruel experiments. To make matters worse, I have to work with Vaughn-the same werewolf I thought I had feelings for until he savagely betrayed me. We must figure out a way to keep these kids alive while the island does its best to kill us all. But Vaughn is dangerous, a vicious werewolf who only cares about himself. What will kill me first? The evil twins? Their island? Or Vaughn? If you loved Seeking the Fae, The Faerie Games, or Dark King, you'll want to check out this Fae Adventure Romance.
