That yearning was gratified just after the New Year 1880, when after passing many delightful days in Baltimore, Maryland, in Richmond, Virginia, and in Augusta, Georgia, I found myself in the charming city of New Orleans In the capital of Louisiana my wife and I spent the Carnival and among the polished, amiable, and kindly society of a most interesting and picturesque city we made a host of friends who, we hope, will not readily forget us. I am sure that we shall never forget them.
