Anchors Away and Murder by Patti Larsen Pdf

A seventh cozy mystery installment to die for! A Crew-less Kind of Week “Good morning, Sheriff. How’s Montpelier?” He and Jill were at a conference in the state capital, gone since last Sunday night. He’d been great to keep in touch, calling when he knew I’d be alone, usually about this time of day and again late enough at night we had lots of time to talk. Did he really know me that well, my schedule? Apparently. Made me feel a happy little bubble of joy, like we were really a couple. Weren’t we? “Good morning, Miss Fleming,” he said in that deep gravel voice of his that made me shiver and grin all over again. “I’m bored silly, ready to come home tomorrow and wishing you’d come with me instead of Jill.” Well, growl, Sheriff Turner. With Petunia’s and the annex packed to the brim, Fee’s business is booming. When the yacht club’s president dies under mysterious circumstances, she discovers her bed and breakfast isn’t her only source of employment. Newly partnered with her father in Fleming Investigations, Fee reaches out to Crew to come home and solve the case. Trouble is, he’s vanished and no one will tell her where he’s gone. Worst of all? That leaves Robert, of all people, sitting in the sheriff’s seat to head butt with Fee and John with Olivia’s job again in the balance. cozy murder mystery series, cozy murder mystery, cozy murder mystery books, cozy murder, cozy murder mysteries, animal cozy mystery, animal cozy

Mess Night Traditions by Charles J. Gibowicz Pdf

This book is about the military Sea Service Mess Night, the Sea Services consisting of the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard. Mess Nights are traditional, time-honored events going back to at least the 18th Century. Formal military dining has historically been a way to communicate, to celebrate special events and a way to promote unity and camaraderie. The Mess Night, although a military formation and a formal event, is also a great deal of fun. Some of today's protocol and script is not exactly matching the past. Today's Mess Night is a bit more regimented and programmed but basically reflects all that was included in the old days and also reflects some of procedures used during the days of sail. This book is written because there are no books on Mess Nights, this is a first. Like many Sea Service customs and traditions, this custom has been handed down from generation to generation unwritten. Scripts and instructions were not necessary as Mess dinners were common. The British Navy can claim a continuous, unbroken tradition and they are basically the providers of the American tradition. They host Mess dinners much more frequently than the Americans do and the entire Navy traditionally celebrates the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. Americans have no set celebration and also have fewer Mess Nights. Many officers are not even aware of Mess Nights. This is because of several factors covered in the book. Hopefully, this book will stimulate greater interest in this important event. As the alcohol rule for ships rule has been loosened, it is particularly hopeful that shipboard Mess Nights can again become an event. It would be most appropriate to celebrate the event for which the ship is named or to begin the tradition of celebrating Navy Day or other famous event such as those listed in this book.

The Rise and Demise of the Largest Sailing Ships by Allan Wood Pdf

At the height of the “Golden Age of Sail” in the early 1900s, New England shipbuilders fiercely competed to design and construct the world’s largest sailing ships to carry massive amounts of coal and building materials as America expanded. Ten original six-masted schooners and the only seven-masted sailing ship, the giant Thomas W. Lawson, were built in New England between 1900-1909, all measuring over the length of a football field! This book brings to life the many challenges these magnificent vessels faced during their voyages in an era of social, economic, and political reforms. It provides the historical accounts that followed each ship, like competitions, accidents, battling devastating storms, acts of heroism, and their final voyages. These true stories are balanced with plenty of color and vintage images, famous paintings, and colorful maps, making this an excellent resource for anyone interested in New England maritime history.

Cruising (with) Class by Stan Zimmerman Pdf

Many beginning sailors soon yearn for a larger boat - with a galley, head and berths - so they can extend their time on the water and range of action. However, the simple mechanics of sailing do not include the variety of arts necessary to cruise successfully. Cruising (with) Class began as a series of lectures at the Sarasota (Florida) Sailing Squadron with the intention of teaching basic skills to beginning cruisers. Comfort on the water is not a matter of soft cushions. It comes from confidence in the ability to voyage safely. Reading the weather, planting the anchor, calculating the tides, navigating a coast, avoiding fatigue, choosing equipment, coping with storms, reacting to disasters, these are the arts of a cruiser. Although the book calls on the author's 25 years of cruising small sailboats, it is not a travelogue. Instead, it is a precise iteration of lessons learned the hard way, and presented in sailor-to-sailor fashion so others can avoid disaster and find comfort bred in confidence on the water.
