Annals of the International Geophysical Year by W. J. G. Beynon Pdf

Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume 48: Bibliography and Index contains bibliography of articles published in connection with the International Geophysical Year (IGY). The preparatory and operational phases of the IGY occupied nearly a decade and the data accumulated in the many scientific disciplines by workers in some 67 countries will provide material for publication for many years. The references have been assembled from information supplied by a wide variety of sources. These references have been grouped into 21 sections, of which Sections I-XIV followed the discipline grouping adopted during the IGY. Within each section references have been arranged in alphabetical order according to the name of the principal author. Anonymous articles are listed at the end of each section, again arranged in alphabetical order by title. In the scientific literature, author's names originally printed in Cyrillic symbols sometimes appear with several different spellings because of the use of different transliteration systems. In the present Bibliography an attempt has been made to achieve consistency by using the same transliteration system throughout. This book will prove useful to geophysicists and researchers who are interested in the accomplishments of the International Geophysical Year.

The Histories of the International Polar Years and the Inception and Development of the International Geophysical Year by Sam Stuart Pdf

Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume I: The Histories of the International Polar Years and the Inception and Development of the International Geophysical Year covers the significant contributions of remarkable scientific enterprises known as the First and Second International Polar Years. This book is organized into three parts encompassing 39 chapters. The first part deals with the First International Polar Year, its origin, planning, and program. Considerable chapters survey the accomplishments of numerous space expeditions from various countries, including Austria, Britain, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Georgia, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and United States. The second part is the French translation of the information presented in the first part. The third part highlights the achievements of the Second International Polar Year in the field of geophysics. This part specifically discusses the study of the aurora, based on visual observations and spectrographic evaluation. This book will prove useful to geophysicists and researchers in the allied fields.

Annals of the International Geophysical Year by S. F. Smerd Pdf

Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume 34: Solar Radio Emission During the International Geophysical Year covers the significant solar radio emission events observed during the International Geophysical Year (IGY). This book is composed of six chapters, and begins with a summary of tabulated quantities describing solar radio emission during the IGY. The tabulated figures illustrate the method of recording the position of radio sources on the sun, the use of symbols in describing the structure of bursts observed at single frequencies, and the different types used in a spectral classification of solar activity. The next chapters describe large solar-terrestrial disturbances seen during the IGY. The concluding chapter provides the statistical analysis derives from statistical spectra for several kinds of solar bursts at radio wavelengths and illustrates the sequence and mutual dependence of various manifestations of solar and terrestrial activity through correlograms for the IGY period.

Seismology by V. Beloussov Pdf

Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume 30: Seismology is an eight-chapter text that provides seismological data observed during the International Geophysical Year (IGY). The resolution to include seismology in the IGY program has considerably stimulated seismic researches and accelerated the development of nets of seismic stations in many countries. After a brief introduction to seismological stations and equipment, this book goes on dealing with the approved proposal of the U.S.S.R. to establish three seismological stations in the Arctic zone and recommended to other nations that maintain seismological stations in that zone. A chapter presents the microseismological activities observed in various regions, emphasizing their geographical differences. Other chapters present a summary of special seismic crustal studies during the IGY to examine Earth's crust and Antarctic structures. The final chapters contain data on long period waves and the Lg phase, as well as the measurements of the Earth's crust strain. This book will be of value to geophysicists and researchers in the field.

Meteorology by J. Van Mieghem Pdf

Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume 32: Meteorology covers the various aspects of the International Geophysical Year/International Geophysical Cooperation's meteorological program, focusing on radiation measurement. This book is divided into seven sections, and begins with an overview of the meteorological program of the IGY and some related activities. The subsequent chapter outlines the program of radiation measurement planned for the IGY and the data received at World Data Center C for the IGY/IGC period. These topics are followed by discussions on observations of solar radiation flux from aircraft flux of the Meteorological Research Flight during the period of February 1958-January 1960. Other chapters provide tabulations of meteorological data from ozone stations with IGY station numbers arranged according to latitude, north to south. The concluding chapter is devoted to the IGY-IGC effort in the field of nuclear radiation. This book will prove useful to geophysicists and researchers in the field.

Annals of the International Geophysical Year by K. Rawer Pdf

Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume 33: Results of Ionospheric Drift Observations describes the systematic changes in individual ionospheric observations during the International Geophysical Year (IGY). This book is composed of four chapters, and begins with a presentation of the general data on stations and the lists of publications concerning drift work during IGY/IGC. The next chapter contains the results obtained mainly by intercomparison of the time shift between fadings observed on three antenna separated by a distance of roughly a wavelength. These data are followed by a discussion of the results for a station, which has made the big effort of applying the correlation analysis as a routine. The concluding chapter highlights further results of intercomparison observations and tests, and a few stations' results obtained with drift meteor trails determined by combinations of Radar- and Doppler-techniques, as well as the intercomparison of fieldstrength fluctuations of cosmic radio waves. This book is of great value to geophysicists and space scientists and researchers.
