If you have the Holy Spirit, He still may not have sufficient sway in your life for you to have the advanced experience of power and the gifts of the Spirit. Without following their example and deeds, we are without their mighty experiences. Consecrated fasting acts as a refining fire to the saint of God, and enables him to become purified and cleansed to such an extent he can obtain the power and the gifts of the Spirit. It actually requires a further process of purification and sanctified living to obtain and retain the gifts of the Spirit than otherwise.
