Approximation of Set-Valued Functions by Nira Dyn,Elza Farkhi,Alona Mokhov Pdf

This book is aimed at the approximation of set-valued functions with compact sets in an Euclidean space as values. The interest in set-valued functions is rather new. Such functions arise in various modern areas such as control theory, dynamical systems and optimization. The authors' motivation also comes from the newer field of geometric modeling, in particular from the problem of reconstruction of 3D objects from 2D cross-sections. This is reflected in the focus of this book, which is the approximation of set-valued functions with general (not necessarily convex) sets as values, while previous results on this topic are mainly confined to the convex case. The approach taken in this book is to adapt classical approximation operators and to provide error estimates in terms of the regularity properties of the approximated set-valued functions. Specialized results are given for functions with 1D sets as values. This work deals with the many variations of the Stoneileierstrass Theorem for vector-valued functions and some of its applications. The book is largely self-contained. The amount of Functional Analysis required is minimal, except for Chapter 8. The book can be used by graduate students who have taken the usual first-year real and complex analysis courses.

Convex and Set-Valued Analysis by Aram V. Arutyunov,Valeri Obukhovskii Pdf

This textbook is devoted to a compressed and self-contained exposition of two important parts of contemporary mathematics: convex and set-valued analysis. In the first part, properties of convex sets, the theory of separation, convex functions and their differentiability, properties of convex cones in finite- and infinite-dimensional spaces are discussed. The second part covers some important parts of set-valued analysis. There the properties of the Hausdorff metric and various continuity concepts of set-valued maps are considered. The great attention is paid also to measurable set-valued functions, continuous, Lipschitz and some special types of selections, fixed point and coincidence theorems, covering set-valued maps, topological degree theory and differential inclusions. Contents: Preface Part I: Convex analysis Convex sets and their properties The convex hull of a set. The interior of convex sets The affine hull of sets. Ordered Cones and Approximation by Klaus Keimel,Walter Roth Pdf

This book presents a unified approach to Korovkin-type approximation theorems. It includes classical material on the approximation of real-valuedfunctions as well as recent and new results on set-valued functions and stochastic processes, and on weighted approximation. The results are notonly of qualitative nature, but include quantitative bounds on the order of approximation. The book is addressed to researchers in functional analysis and approximation theory as well as to those that want to applythese methods in other fields. It is largely self- contained, but the readershould have a solid background in abstract functional analysis. The unified approach is based on a new notion of locally convex ordered cones that are not embeddable in vector spaces but allow Hahn-Banach type separation and extension theorems. This concept seems to be of independent interest.

Advances in Multiresolution for Geometric Modelling by Neil Dodgson,Michael S. Floater,Malcolm Sabin Pdf

Multiresolution methods in geometric modelling are concerned with the generation, representation, and manipulation of geometric objects at several levels of detail. Applications include fast visualization and rendering as well as coding, compression, and digital transmission of 3D geometric objects. This book marks the culmination of the four-year EU-funded research project, Multiresolution in Geometric Modelling (MINGLE). The book contains seven survey papers, providing a detailed overview of recent advances in the various fields within multiresolution modelling, and sixteen additional research papers. Each of the seven parts of the book starts with a survey paper, followed by the associated research papers in that area. All papers were originally presented at the MINGLE 2003 workshop held at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, UK, 9-11 September 2003.

Fixed Point Theory for Decomposable Sets by Andrzej Fryszkowski Pdf

Decomposable sets since T. R. Rockafellar in 1968 are one of basic notions in nonlinear analysis, especially in the theory of multifunctions. A subset K of measurable functions is called decomposable if (Q) for all and measurable A. This book attempts to show the present stage of "decomposable analysis" from the point of view of fixed point theory. The book is split into three parts, beginning with the background of functional analysis, proceeding to the theory of multifunctions and lastly, the decomposability property. Mathematicians and students working in functional, convex and nonlinear analysis, differential inclusions and optimal control should find this book of interest. A good background in fixed point theory is assumed as is a background in topology.

USCO and Quasicontinuous Mappings by L’ubica Holá,Dušan Holý,Warren Moors Pdf

This book presents two natural generalizations of continuous mappings, namely usco and quasicontinuous mappings. The first class considers set-valued mappings, the second class relaxes the definition of continuity. Both these topological concepts stem naturally from basic mathematical considerations and have numerous applications that are covered in detail.

"An elegantly written, introductory overview of the field, with a near perfect choice of what to include and what not, enlivened in places by historical tidbits and made eminently readable throughout by crisp language. It has succeeded in doing the near-impossible—it has made a subject which is generally inhospitable to nonspecialists because of its ‘family jargon’ appear nonintimidating even to a beginning graduate student." —The Journal of the Indian Institute of Science "The book under review gives a comprehensive treatment of basically everything in mathematics that can be named multivalued/set-valued analysis. ...The book is highly recommended for mathematicians and graduate students who will find here a very comprehensive treatment of set-valued analysis." —Mathematical Reviews "This book provides a thorough introduction to multivalued or set-valued analysis... The style is lively and vigorous, the relevant historical comments and suggestive overviews increase the interest for this work...Graduate students and mathematicians of every persuasion will welcome this unparalleled guide to set-valued analysis." —Zentralblatt Math

Set Optimization and Applications - The State of the Art by Andreas H Hamel,Frank Heyde,Andreas Löhne,Birgit Rudloff,Carola Schrage Pdf

This volume presents five surveys with extensive bibliographies and six original contributions on set optimization and its applications in mathematical finance and game theory. The topics range from more conventional approaches that look for minimal/maximal elements with respect to vector orders or set relations, to the new complete-lattice approach that comprises a coherent solution concept for set optimization problems, along with existence results, duality theorems, optimality conditions, variational inequalities and theoretical foundations for algorithms. Modern approaches to scalarization methods can be found as well as a fundamental contribution to conditional analysis. The theory is tailor-made for financial applications, in particular risk evaluation and [super-]hedging for market models with transaction costs, but it also provides a refreshing new perspective on vector optimization. There is no comparable volume on the market, making the book an invaluable resource for researchers working in vector optimization and multi-criteria decision-making, mathematical finance and economics as well as [set-valued] variational analysis.

Constrained Control Problems of Discrete Processes by Vu Ngoc Phat Pdf

The book gives a novel treatment of recent advances on constrained control problems with emphasis on the controllability, reachability of dynamical discrete-time systems. The new proposed approach provides the right setting for the study of qualitative properties of general types of dynamical systems in both discrete-time and continuous-time systems with possible applications to some control engineering models. Most of the material appears for the first time in a book form. The book is addressed to advanced students, postgraduate students and researchers interested in control system theory and optimal control.
