The text is organized into five areas, focused on the hard skills tomorrow’s sport financiers must master to perform their role: increasing revenues and decreasing expenses, developing budgets, understanding financial statements and ratios, obtaining funding and managing cash, and building a financial strategy. Each section features an insightful introduction by a renowned industry professional, providing a real-world perspective that’s sure to pique readers’ interest. Chapters addressing revenues and expenses include budgets from the sporting goods industry, intercollegiate athletics, and professional sports. The sport industry landscape has changed significantly since the previous edition was published, and the fifth edition reflects the new realities affecting today’s sport organizations. Addressed are name, image, and likeness (NIL) rule changes; esports; cryptocurrencies; non-fungible tokens (NFTs); sport gambling; the proliferation of broadcasting rights and the sneaker market; and the impacts of COVID-19 on the sport industry. The fifth edition’s practical takeaways are especially prominent with the addition of related online resources available to students and assignable by instructors via HKPropel. One highlight is “Two-Dollar Team,” an Excel-based simulation that introduces students to assets and liabilities, revenue and expenses, budgeting, cash management, and borrowing and reveals how these specialties work together in developing financial strategies. Three other assignable class projects involve personal budgeting, expenditures, and a stock market game. Other new features include five brand-new case studies and a profile of a typical health club, “Mike’s Gym,” in which students are challenged to put their learning to the test by reading and understanding financial statements, setting budgets, and identifying strengths, weaknesses, and growth opportunities for the fictional facility. Sport Finance provides students with a thorough understanding of the financial and economic aspects of the sport industry. By analyzing sport business entities and structures, financial statements, and funding sources, students will acquire the skills to make more informed and effective financial decisions, better manage the risks, and recognize opportunities in the world of sport. Enchanted Ground by Arthur Johnston Pdf

The beginnings of modern literary scholarship in Britain are studied in this volume, which traces the emergence between about 1760 and 1810 in the work of Richard Hurd, Thomas Percy, Thomas Warton, Joseph Ritson, George Ellis, and Sir Walter Scott of a serious scholarly approach to the English metrical romances of the middle ages. These scholars, however, were not concerned solely with the rediscovery and editing of the original texts which two centuries of growing antiquarian research had ignored. Almost without exception men of letters themselves, they desired also to recover the 'world of fine fabling' in which the classical temper of the preceding age had preferred the virtues of 'good sense', and they consciously put their discoveries to the service of modern poetry, or urged that they should be so used. The consequences of this were far-reaching, and as he considers in detail the individual achievements of his principal subjects Dr Johnston does not neglect to bring out the nature and importance of the contributions they made to the general culture and literature of their own day and of the nineteenth century.

Self-interpretation in The Faerie Queene by Paul Suttie Pdf

A new reading of the allegorical nature of The Faerie Queene, offering radical new insights into its narrative and form. Recent Spenser criticism has thrown much new light, and much doubt, on the nature of The Faerie Queene's involvement in contemporary political and religious controversies. Material to these developments has been wide recognition of the unreliability of the poem's narrating voice and its often parodic relation to generic conventions. Nonetheless, some longstanding misconceptions about allegory still limit understanding of Spenser's approach to topical issues. This book re-examines The Faerie Queene's allegorical method, showing what is gained by recognising that the poem's main locus of allegorical self-interpretation, as in the medieval Quest of the Holy Grail, is within rather than extrinsic to the story world. Like the knights of the Quest, Spenser's heroes are poised between rival codes of moral interpretation, in a way that illuminates the relative value of those codes as guides to action. But unlike its predecessor, Spenser's poem addresses an era violently divided as to which constitutes the true code of right and wrong. Amongst the oppositions it grapples with are the ideological conflict in England and Ireland between emergent monarchic absolutism and residual feudalism, the doctrinal division between the Elizabethan and Roman churches, and the Machiavellian challenge to received ideas about political and religious legitimacy. Dr PAUL SUTTIE is a Senior Member of Robinson College, Cambridge.

The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski Pdf

Geralt is a witcher, a man whose magic powers, enhanced by long training and a mysterious elixir, have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless assassin. Yet he is no ordinary murderer: his targets are the multifarious monsters and vile fiends that ravage the land and attack the innocent. He roams the country seeking assignments, but gradually comes to realise that while some of his quarry are unremittingly vile, vicious grotesques, others are the victims of sin, evil or simple naivety. One reviewer said: 'This book is a sheer delight. It is beautifully written, full of vitality and endlessly inventive: its format, with half a dozen episodes and intervening rest periods for both the hero and the reader, allows for a huge range of characters, scenarios and action. It's thought-provoking without being in the least dogmatic, witty without descending to farce and packed with sword fights without being derivative. The dialogue sparkles; characters morph almost imperceptibly from semi-cliche to completely original; nothing is as it first seems. Sapkowski succeeds in seamlessly welding familiar ideas, unique settings and delicious twists of originality: his Beauty wants to rip the throat out of a sensitive Beast; his Snow White seeks vengeance on all and sundry, his elves are embittered and vindictive. It's easily one of the best things I've read in ages.'
