Autobiography of Andrew T. Still (Classic Reprint) by A. T. Still Pdf
Excerpt from Autobiography of Andrew T. Still I will inform the reader at the outset that this book is written to state facts, without being confined to exact dates and figures. Events that have made lasting impressions on my mind, stated as correctly as possible from memory, are narrated here without regard to the rules of fine writing. I never kept any notes of my life, therefore the stories may appear disconnected. When I tell you of an event it will be the truth as I remember it, regardless of how it may look in print. I want to avoid "biography" as I write, for the reason that "biographies" are so nicely worded that the reader often has to ask whom the narrator "is giving a write-up." Notwithstanding I am often told that I ought to get a professional "biographer" to write my life, I have concluded to write it myself. When I read about the battles of the Rebellion, "How Major A. T. Still charged on rebels with uplifted saber, urging his men to victory," I begin to doubt professional biographers, for I know there was not a saber drawn nor was there any yelling during a hard fight of two hours' duration between thirty thousand combatants on each side. Philosophy of Osteopathy (Classic Reprint) by A. T. Still Pdf
Considered a groundbreaking medical discovery at the time Osteopathy is still a respected profession and is on the border between conventional and complementary medicine. In this book the founder of Osteopathy, Andrew Taylor Still, lays out the philosophies behind the art. Ahead of his time in such areas as belief in preventative care and disgust at the occasionally horrific side effects of the then-practices of conventional medicine AT Still decided (as in other areas of his life) to improve things rather than complain. Still was an interesting individual, prone to inventing his way around problems. He was also a doctor, author, surgeon, lawmaker and founder of a university. Philosophy of Osteopathy by A. T. (Andrew Taylor) Still Pdf
Philosophy of Osteopathy by A. T. (Andrew Taylor) Still To readers of my book on the Philosophy of Osteopathy, I wish to say that I will not tire you with a book of compilations just to sell to the anxious reader. As I have spent thirty years of my life reading and following rules and remedies used for curing, and learned in sorrow it was useless to listen to their claims, for instead of getting good, I obtained much harm therefrom, I asked for, and obtained a mental divorce from them, and I want it to be understood that drugs and I are as far apart as the East is from the West; now, and forever. Henceforth I will follow the dictates of nature in all I say or write. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. History of Osteopathy, and Twentieth-Century Medical Practice (Classic Reprint) by Emmons Rutledge Booth Pdf
Excerpt from History of Osteopathy, and Twentieth-Century Medical Practice The compilation of the History of Osteopathy and Twentieth-Century Medical Practice was not undertaken because of a pressing demand. It seemed to have dawned upon the mind of several osteopaths about the same time that such a work ought to be issued during the life of Dr. Andrew Taylor Still and others most intimately connected with the origin and early development of the science. The author was requested by several of his professional friends to undertake the work, which he did with much reluctance. He felt that he had a great responsibility resting upon him. Once thoroughly entered upon the work, the magnitude of the task became evident; but the richness of the mine of truth in which he was delving, made the search one of constantly growing interest. Direct information was obtained from Dr. A. T. Still and from many who were intimate with him before Osteopathy was known and during its process of development. Many of the facts given are drawn from the authors personal knowledge; and others are from traditions or unwritten history which has become the common property of scores who are acquainted with the development of Osteopathy and of those who have known Dr. Still for years. The chapters relating to other systems of medicine and methods of procedure in treating diseases of the human body were not contemplated in the original plan. In order that Osteopathy might be seen in its true relations, and its independent position in the science and art of healing be fully understood, it seemed necessary to present a few facts concerning present medical practices. This was the more imperative because of the vilification and constant misrepresentation of Osteopathy by the established medical profession. It will require no stretch of the imagination to see that the facts at first sight apparently foreign to Osteopathy are an integral part of the history.
