Barriers to Global Stock Listing Among African Companies: Is It Cost or Compliance? by Dr. Emmanuel Asoluka Ihejirika Pdf

As a classical empirical research study, the author investigated whether foreign investment into the U.S are hindered by SOX act, high compliance cost or high stock listing cost in NYSE and NASDAQ exchanges. This book is a practical and excellent resource for graduate academic research in business, showing how research methodology design and variables are operationalized. This book will benefit African firms and global investors listing shares overseas, including in U.S using Depositary Receipts (DRs). The increasing demand for Depositary Receipts is driven by the desire of individual and institutional investors to diversify their portfolios, reduce risk and invest internationally. While most investors recognize the benefits of global diversification, they also understand the challenges presented when investing directly in local trading markets. These obstacles can include inefficient trade settlements, uncertain custody services and costly currency conversions.

Ensuring Quality to Gain Access to Global Markets by Martin Kellermann Pdf

In a modern world with rapidly growing international trade, countries compete less based on the availability of natural resources, geographical advantages, and lower labor costs and more on factors related to firms' ability to enter and compete in new markets. One such factor is the ability to demonstrate the quality and safety of goods and services expected by consumers and confirm compliance with international standards. To assure such compliance, a sound quality infrastructure (QI) ecosystem is essential. Jointly developed by the World Bank Group and the National Metrology Institute of Germany, this guide is designed to help development partners and governments analyze a country's quality infrastructure ecosystems and provide recommendations to design and implement reforms and enhance the capacity of their QI institutions.

Regional Financial Integration in Africa: Cross-listings as a Form of Regional Financial Integration by Moses Wisdom Chisadza Pdf

This book looks at contemporary issues facing financial markets in Southern Africa. It has been established that African stock markets are confronted with a multitude of problems which include inadequate liquidity, low capitalisation, few market participants, a small number of listed companies and low trading volumes. As a result, their broader economic impact has so far been limited. The Southern Africa Development Community (‘SADC’) stock markets, with the exception of South Africa, are small both in terms of the number of listed companies and market capitalisation, and they display considerable illiquidity. In general, the SADC region has shallow and underdeveloped financial markets. Their development has been hampered by a number of factors which include; political and economic uncertainty, fiscal dominance, weak judicial institutions, limited investment opportunities in the private sector, technological constraints, and the shortage of skilled personnel with expertise in banking and finance.

Trading Together by Rabah Arezki,Blanca Moreno-Dodson,Rachel Yuting Fan,Romeo Gansey,Ha Nguyen,Minh Cong Nguyen,Lili Mottaghi,Constantin Tsakas,Christina Wood,Nelly El-Mallakh Pdf

Part I of this report discusses the short- and medium-term growth prospects for countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The region is expected to grow at a subdued rate of 0.6 percent in 2019, rising to 2.6 percent in 2020 and 2.9 percent in 2021. The growth forecast for 2019 is revised down by 0.8 percentage points from the April 2019 projection. MENA’s economic outlook is subject to substantial downside risks—most notably, intensified global economic headwinds and rising geopolitical tensions. Part II argues that promoting fair competition is key for MENA countries to complete the transition from an administered to a market economy. Part II first examines current competition policies in MENA countries and to promote fair competition calls for strengthening competition law and enforcement agencies. It also calls for corporatizing state-owned enterprises, promoting the private sector and creating a level-playing field between them. Any moves to reform MENA economies would be aided by professional management of public assets, which could tap into a new source of national wealth.

Natural Resources and Violent Conflict by Ian Bannon,Paul Collier Pdf

Research carried out by the World Bank on the root causes of conflict and civil war finds that a developing country's economic dependence on natural resources or other primary commodities is strongly associated with the risk level for violent conflict. This book brings together a collection of reports and case studies that explore what the international community in particular can do to reduce this risk.; The text explains the links between natural resources and conflict and examines the impact of resource dependence on economic performance, governance, secessionist movements and revel financing. It then explores avenues for international action - from financial and resource reporting procedures and policy recommendations to commodity tracking systems and enforcement instruments, including sanctions, certification requirements, aid conditionality, legislative and judicial instruments.

The Report: Ghana 2013 by Oxford Business Group Pdf

Economic growth has been extremely robust following the country’s discovery of oil in 2007, reaching well into the double-digits and driving a boom in consumption and investment. The discovery in Ghana’s offshore Jubilee field in 2007 represented something of a turning point in the country’s economic trajectory. Followed by growth rates that at one point reached above 14%, as well as a GDP re-basing that improved the accuracy of its reporting, the country has moved up into lower middle-income status. As a result of its recent economic surge and stable environment, investment levels have continued to rise, as companies both foreign and domestic are eager to capitalise on the country’s wealth of natural resources and growing middle class. There have been challenges, as public spending comes under pressure and commodity exports remain exposed to exogenous shocks, but the economy’s fundamentals are encouraging.
