Novel Trends in Electroorganic Synthesis by Sigeru Torii Pdf

Among the topics of interest to organic chemists today are the versatility and uniqueness of electrolysis procedures in organic synthesis, as well as the latest advances in methodology, including basic concepts for the design of electrolysis conditions and apparatus. The International Symposium on Electroorganic Synthesis met in Kurashiki, Japan, in September 1997 for lectures on all aspects of current research in the field. This volume comprising the papers from the symposium consists of two parts. Part I, Electrooxidation, includes papers on alcohols and phenols, olefins and aromatics, halogenation, polymers, and electrodes, among others. Included in Part II, Electroreduction, are papers on carbonyl compounds, halogen-containing compounds, reaction with EG bases, and metal complexes. The novel trends presented here will be of special interest to researchers and graduate students in electroorganic chemistry and are a valuable resource for all organic chemists.

Fundamentals and Applications of Organic Electrochemistry by Toshio Fuchigami,Mahito Atobe,Shinsuke Inagi Pdf

This textbook is an accessible overview of the broad field of organic electrochemistry, covering the fundamentals and applications of contemporary organic electrochemistry. The book begins with an introduction to the fundamental aspects of electrode electron transfer and methods for the electrochemical measurement of organic molecules. It then goes on to discuss organic electrosynthesis of molecules and macromolecules, including detailed experimental information for the electrochemical synthesis of organic compounds and conducting polymers. Later chapters highlight new methodology for organic electrochemical synthesis, for example electrolysis in ionic liquids, the application to organic electronic devices such as solar cells and LEDs, and examples of commercialized organic electrode processes. Appendices present useful supplementary information including experimental examples of organic electrosynthesis, and tables of physical data (redox potentials of various organic solvents and organic compounds and physical properties of various organic solvents).

Electroorganic Chemistry as a New Tool in Organic Synthesis by Tatsuya Shono Pdf

Although the first electroorganic reaction used in organic synthesis is probably the famous Kolbe electrolysis published in 1849, no other remarkable reactions have been found until the reductive dimerization of acrylonitrile to adipo nitrile was developed by Dr. M. M. Baizer of Monsanto Co. in 1964. Since then, the electro organic chemistry has been studied extensively with the expectation that it is a new useful tool for finding novel reactions in organic synthesis. The purpose of this book is not to give a comprehensive survey of studies on electrochemical reactions of organic compounds but to show that the electro organic chemistry is indeed useful in organic synthesis. Thus, this book has been written under the following policies. (1) Since this monograph is mainly concerned with organic synthesis, only few studies carried out from the view point of electrochemical, theoretical, or analytical chemistry are mentioned. (2) Since electroorganic chemistry covers a great variety of reactions, the types of reactions described in this book are selected mainly with regard to their application in organic synthesis. Simple transformations of functional groups are only described in particular cases, and also some well established processes such as the Kolbe electrolysis, pinacolic coupling, and hydrodimerization are only briefly mentioned. (3) Since many reports have already been published for each type of these reactions, only a limited number of the relevant papers are cited in this book.

The Vocabulary of Organic Chemistry Milton Orchin, Fred Kaplan,Roger S. Macomber, R. Marshall Wilson & Hans W. ZimmerIdentifies those terms and concepts which now constitute thevocabulary of organic chemists, then defines and explains theseterms and concepts, most often using examples. Organized so thatsubject matter builds successively on increasingly varied andcomplex material. All terms and concepts related to a particulararea are placed together, except for one chapter on name and typereactions, which is alphabetically arranged. The only book of itskind--valuable to students, teachers and chemical professionalsalike. 1980 Protective Groups in Organic Synthesis Theodora W.Greene Provides essential information on transformations of organicmolecules, including instructions and references for the protectionand regeneration of the major organic functional groups: -OH, -NH,-SH, -COOH, and C = O. Covers the best methods of formation andcleavage, properties of protective groups, selection of a group fora particular need. Organization is by functional groups to beprotected, with groups arranged in order of increasing complexityof structure, and with most efficient methods of formation orcleavage described first. Charts show the reactivities of 270 ofthe most commonly used protective groups to 108 reagents, selectedas prototypes for the entire array of reagents available to theorganic chemist. 1981 Basics of Electroorganic Synthesis DemetriosK. Electrochemistry in Organic Synthesis by Jiri Volke,Frantisek Liska Pdf

This book has been written as an introduction to the electro synthesis of organic compounds, in particular for organic chemists. Both authors assume that the knowledge of electro chemistry of these specialists is rather poor and is usually based only on the remnants of the teaching in the courses on physical and analytical chemistry during their university stud ies. Even with Czech chemists one cannot expect - as it was in the past - the experience obtained in the courses on polaro graphy. This is the reason why it was deemed necessary to write an introductory text to the electro synthesis of organics both as regards the theoretical and the methodological point of view, i. e. the fundamentals, the experimental setup, the application of various working and reference electrodes, the shape and con struction of electrolysis cells, the use of suitable pro tic and aprotic solvents, the experience obtained with various sup porting electrolytes, the separation and isolation of products, as well as the use of inert gases which prevent the interaction of intermediates and of final products with, for example, oxygen or traces of water. - The second part of the book contains a systematic description of preparative organic electrochemical processes, the interpretation of their mechanisms and several prescriptions for synthesizing characteristical groups of com pounds. As a whole the book is not written in an exhaustive way.

Organic Synthesis Engineering by L. K. Doraiswamy Pdf

This book will formally launch "organic synthesis engineering" as a distinctive field in the armory of the reaction engineer. Its main theme revolves around two developments: catalysis and the role of process intensification in enhancing overall productivity. Each of these two subjects are becoming increasingly useful in organic synthesis engineering, especially in the production of medium and small volume chemicals and enhancing reaction rates by extending laboratory techniques, such as ultrasound, phase transfer catalysts, membrane reactor, and microwaves, to industrial scale production. This volume describes the applications of catalysis in organic synthesis and outlines different techniques of reaction rate and/or selectivity enhancement against a background of reaction engineering principles for both homogeneous and heterogeneous systems.

Principles and Applications of Electrochemistry by D.R. Crow Pdf

This introduction to the principles and application of electrochemistry is presented in a manner designed for undergraduates in chemistry and related fields. The author covers the essential aspects of the subject and points the way to further study, his concern being with the overall shape of electrochemistry, its coherence and its wider application. This edition differs from its predecessors in having principles and applications separated, and greater prominence is given to areas such as electrochemical sensors and electroanalytical techniques, of which a number of modern methods were not included in previous editions. A range of numerical problems and outline solutions is provided for each chapter to cover most situations that a student might encounter.
