The ICT Handbook for Primary Teachers by David Hall Pdf
The ICT Handbook for Primary Teachers will help all those involved in primary education, whether in training, teaching or leadership roles, to develop the ICT knowledge, understanding and skills required to enhance children’s learning in the classroom. This new edition reflects the changes to the curriculum from 2014. It includes a new section on the Computing curriculum and an overview of the reorganisation of those online agencies that serve to support ICT. Covering theory and practise this essential handbook explores and outlines the usefulness of a wide range of up to date ICT resources in a range of primary contexts, and advice is offered on assessing whether ICT is preferable to other approaches for ‘enhancing learning’. With reference to supplementary online resources, providing activities, multimedia resources and further reading, the book covers: the requirements of the new Computing curriculum, the place for ICT in enhancing teaching and learning across the curriculum, using ICT in core curriculum subjects and in cross-curricular contexts, different models of e-learning (interactive whiteboards, tablet PCs, mobile devices, the Internet etc), how ICT can be used to help pupils with special educational needs and using ICT for planning, delivery, assessment and recording. This book is an indispensible guide to ICT for students on PGCE, BEd and undergraduate teaching courses, along with practising teachers, SENCOs, ICT coordinators and school leaders.

Finding a New British Asian Sound on BBC Radio by Liam McCarthy Pdf
This book explores the contrasting responses to the South Asian diaspora in Britain of BBC local radio and BBC network radio. It highlights the hidden history of how BBC local radio stations developed a schedule of five thousand hours a year of programmes targeted at South Asian communities in England. Local radio stations at the periphery of the BBC built deep and influential connections with marginalised Asian communities, creating the BBC Asian Network in 1989 and played an influential part in building local social cohesion. This contrasts with central BBC policy that reveals a management culture resistant to change and unable to embrace an increasingly diverse Britain - creating a problematic legacy for the BBC. Finding a New British Asian Sound brings new insights into current debates around policy and institutional racism at the BBC, where South Asian programming on local and network radio remains at risk of closure.

Dissonant Waves by Sam Dolbear,Esther Leslie Pdf
An investigation of the cultures and technologies of early radio and how a generation of cultural operators—with Schoen at the center—addressed crisis and adversity. Dials, knobs, microphones, clocks; heads, hands, breath, voices. Ernst Schoen joined Frankfurt Radio in the 1920s as programmer and accelerated the potentials of this collision of bodies and technologies. As with others of his generation, Schoen experienced crisis after crisis, from the violence of war, the suicide of friends, economic collapse, and a brief episode of permitted experimentalism under the Weimar Republic for those who would foster aesthetic, technical, and political revolution. The counterreaction was Nazism—and Schoen and his milieux fell victim to it, found ways out of it, or hit against it with all their might. Dissonant Waves tracks the life of Ernst Schoen—poet, composer, radio programmer, theorist, and best friend of Walter Benjamin from childhood—as he moves between Frankfurt, Berlin, Paris, and London. It casts radio history and practice into concrete spaces, into networks of friends and institutions, into political exigencies and domestic plights, and into broader aesthetic discussions of the politicization of art and the aestheticization of politics. Through friendship and comradeship, a position in state-backed radio, imprisonment, exile, networking in a new country, re-emigration, ill-treatment, neglect, Schoen suffers the century and articulates its broken promises. An exploration of the ripples of radio waves, the circuits of experimentation and friendship, and the proposals that half-found a route into the world—and might yet spark political-technical experimentation.

Radio Fun and the BBC Variety Department, 1922—67 by Martin Dibbs Pdf
This book provides a narrative history of the BBC Radio Variety Department exploring, along chronological lines, the workings of, tensions within and the impact of BBC policies on the programme-making department which generated the organisation’s largest audiences. It provides an insight into key events, personalities, programmes, internal politics and trends in popular entertainment, censorship and anti-American policy as they individually or collectively affected the Department. Martin Dibbs examines how the Department's programmes became markers in the daily and weekly lives of millions of listeners, and helped shape the nation's listening habits when radio was the dominant source of domestic entertainment. The book explores events and topics which, while not directly forming part of the Variety Department’s history, nevertheless intersected with or had an impact on it. Such topics include the BBC’s attitude to jazz and rock and roll, the arrival of television with its impact on radio, the pirate radio stations, and the Popular Music and Gramophone Departments, both of whom worked closely with the Variety Department.
