Beverly Hills Boss by Nicole Rodrigues Pdf

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: While climbing the ladder to success, Nicole never lost sight of her humble beginnings. As a single mom in her early 20's, she had to fight long and hard to prove that she was just as capable of any man or woman in her league. It is extraordinary what she has built -- a thriving PR firm in the heart of Beverly Hills, California and the long list of Fortune 500 companies and celebrity clients that have her on speed dial. More remarkable than any of those prestigious accomplishments is her passion for giving to others who also know deep down inside, they are meant to be a boss. Statistically speaking, she has had everything stacked against her -- no business degree (yet), a single mom, a minority AND a woman -- and yet, with her tenaciousness, her resilience, and her never-ending commitment to strive for excellence, Nicole has carved her way through the stereotypes that society could have labeled on her, and made it all the way to the top. In the heart of Beverly Hills, NRPR Group, where she is the CEO and HBIC (Head Boss In Charge), Nicole is proving that anyone with a dream and determination can make it to the pinnacle of success. ABOUT THE BOOK: Beverly Hills Boss is not for the slacker mindset or the quick fix mentality that pervades many business books in today's modern world. Nicole has given you the blueprint and the roadmap to succeed. Based on ancient principles with cutting-edge wisdom, you will find everything you need to start a business, grow a business, make the transition from employee to entrepreneur, and most of all... become the BOSS you have always known you are meant to be. While you're reading through this book, make sure you take action at the end of each chapter when Nicole says, "Your turn!" You will find that once you have integrated, implemented, and immersed yourself in this step-by-step system, you will naturally emerge as the BOSS of your business and your destiny.

When Bosses Ruled Philadelphia by Peter McCaffery Pdf

In 1903, Muckraker Lincoln Steffens brought the city of Philadelphia lasting notoriety as "the most corrupt and the most contented" urban center in the nation. Famous for its colorful "feudal barons," from "King James" McManes and his "Gas Ring" to "Iz" Durham and "Sunny Jim" McNichol, Philadelphia offers the historian a classic case of the duel between bosses and reformers for control of the American city. But, strangely enough, Philadelphia's Republican machine has not been subject to critical examination until now. When Bosses Ruled Philadelphia challenges conventional wisdom on the political machine, which has it that party bosses controlled Philadelphia as early as the 1850s and maintained that control, with little change, until the Great Depression. According to Peter McCaffery, however, all bosses were not alike, and political power came only gradually over time. McManes's "Gas Ring" in the 1870s was not as powerful as the well-oiled machine ushered in by Matt Quay in the late 1880s. Through a careful analysis of city records, McCaffery identifies the beneficiaries of the emerging Republican Organization, which sections of the local electorate supported it, and why. He concludes that genuine boss rule did not emerge as the dominant institution in Philadelphia politics until just before the turn of the century. McCaffery considers the function that the machine filled in the life of the city. Did it ultimately serve its supporters and the community as a whole, as Steffens and recent commentators have suggested? No, says McCaffery. The romantic image of the boss as "good guy" of the urban drama is wholly undeserved.

The Hollywood Assistants Handbook by Peter Nowalk,Hillary Stamm Pdf

Are you young, eager, smart, and heading off to LA to make it big in the entertainment business? Time for a reality check: Leave your diploma at home, put your grandiose dreams on hold (where hopefully they'll get tired and hang up), and start by repeating the first rule of the industry: Who you work for is more important than who you are. Then leapfrog over everyone else by reading The Hollywood Assistants Handbook. Written by two very sharp and successful assistants to HPPs (Hollywood Power Players), here are 86 lessons packed with a combination of blunt truth, insider humor, and juicy secrets that explain the unwritten rules of how to get a foot in the door and make all the right moves as you climb to the top. Here are the minimum-wage jobs that will put you in the path of HPPs. An annotated resume roundup. The clubs to frequent and the cocktails to order. Movies to watch and books to read (it's called homework). Dressing do's and don'ts. How to get on the Free List. A lineup of boss genres—the Horror Show, the Romantic Comedy, Mr. Action—and how to dodge the tirades that will soon be hurled your way, along with the proper outlets for venting. Plus, the ins and outs of your most important tool, the telephone—when to listen in (always!), who to put through and who to put off, and your new best friend forever, the Plantronics CS70 cordless headset. With its hilariously snarky tone—the gate-keeping quiz is "How to Tell if You're a Moron Who Should Pack Up the Corolla and Move Back Home"—The Hollywood Assistants Handbook is as baldly entertaining for everyone who loves reading about Hollywood as it is indispensably practical for the job-seeker.

Black Directors in Hollywood by Melvin Donalson Pdf

Hollywood film directors are some of the world's most powerful storytellers, shaping the fantasies and aspirations of people around the globe. Since the 1960s, African Americans have increasingly joined their ranks, bringing fresh insights to movie characterizations, plots, and themes and depicting areas of African American culture that were previously absent from mainstream films. Today, black directors are making films in all popular genres, while inventing new ones to speak directly from and to the black experience. This book offers a first comprehensive look at the work of black directors in Hollywood, from pioneers such as Gordon Parks, Melvin Van Peebles, and Ossie Davis to current talents including Spike Lee, John Singleton, Kasi Lemmons, and Carl Franklin. Discussing 67 individuals and over 135 films, Melvin Donalson thoroughly explores how black directors' storytelling skills and film techniques have widened both the thematic focus and visual style of American cinema. Assessing the meanings and messages in their films, he convincingly demonstrates that black directors are balancing Hollywood's demand for box office success with artistic achievement and responsibility to ethnic, cultural, and gender issues.

Children's Stress and Coping by Elaine Shaw Sorensen Pdf

In spite of the increase in stress-coping research, little is known about how stress is actually perceived by children in the family setting. This is due in part to the real difficulties involved in collecting data on children's subjective experiences. In addition, what we currently know about children's stress and coping has traditionally derived from adult reporters, rather than from the children themselves. Filling a gap in the literature, this volume explores theoretical and methodological issues related to the study of children and families in general, and to stress-coping phenomena from the child's perspective in particular. The book challenges traditional deference to adult assessment of stress and coping among children by drawing data from both parents and children, revealing significant contrasts between the two. Through open-ended, qualitative measures of children's diaries and drawings, the book offers a glimpse into the inner world of the child and gives scholarly expression to the fact that children can, and readily will, articulate needs and perceptions if given an appropriate vehicle. The book's well-documented chapters discuss traditional approaches to stress and coping, implications for current child and family study, specific needs related to the study of children within the family, and implications for theory and methods. Taxonomies of children's stressors, coping responses, and coping resources are drawn from the data and examined in detail. The book concludes with suggestions for future research and clinical practice. Providing fascinating insight into children's actual experience of stress and coping, this volume lays the groundwork for ongoing research, scholarship, and therapeutic practice. Academicians, practitioners, and graduate students in family studies, child development, psychology, and nursing will find this book invaluable in shedding light on the often overlooked culture of children.

A Reversal of Fortune: a Novel by Phil Acosta Pdf

Based on a true story, A REVERSAL OF FORTUNE depicts the struggle of a successful, level-headed lawyer and his new free-spirited, unpredictable wife in adjusting to their recent marriage, coping with their law firm, facing the economic hardships of the current recession, and eventually losing everything. In his clear, conversational style, the author begins his story where his debut novel, THREE WEEKS IN ITALY, ended. Although reading his first novel is entirely unnecessary to understand his recent work, the author continues the story of Doug and Gianna Steele after their tumultuous honeymoon in Italy. Returning home to an affluent lifestyle, Gianna decides to join Doug's law firm and eventually experiences a betrayal that leads to disastrous events. The reader will follow the main characters as they desperately attempt to survive through the morass of evictions, sub-prime borrowing, foreclosures, unemployment, bad credit, law suits, and despair. After the devastation, Gianna moves back into her mother's home and Doug ends up in a trailer park. Stripped of their material possessions, they soon discover a hidden treasure in their relationship which leads them to redemption and a new life together.
