Can its force, which brought them together once, help them find each other again?

Hunted Past Reason by Richard Matheson Pdf

The bestselling author of such classic novels as I Am Legend and What Dreams May Come, Richard Matheson is one of the twentieth century's acknowledged masters of suspense. Hunted Past Reason is a major literary event: Matheson's first new novel in seven years-and a gripping tale of madness, paranoia, and murder. It's supposed to be just an ordinary camping trip, two old acquaintances hiking through the wilderness toward a remote cabin in the woods of northern California. Bob Hansen, a middle-aged family man and author, isn't anticipating anything worse than sore muscles and maybe a few chilly nights. But the enforced isolation of the hike soon exposes long-hidden rivalries and resentments between Bob and his guide through the forest, a fading TV actor whom Bob has known for several years. The deeper they get into the primeval wilderness and the farther from civilization, the greater the tension between the two men becomes-until the simmering hostility erupts into a terrifying life-or-death struggle for survival. Two men entered the woods, but only one may emerge alive. Hunted Past Reason is a nail-biting thriller in the classic Matheson tradition. Not All Bid Farewell by Tracy M’Cwabeni Pdf

In 1978, the white government in Rhodesia is holding on to power while losing its grip on the war-torn countryside. The war has been ferociously fought in the rural areas for a number of years, and now those living in the cities are gripped with fear as the momentum gathers and threatens their own backyards. At this same time, Ruva Ganda—living in Harare, the capital of what would soon become an independent Zimbabwe—is losing her own personal battle with a fifth miscarriage. Ruva; her husband, Mukai; and their twin daughters don’t have much, but they are content with their lot. The family’s life changes drastically, however, when Mukai is murdered. Ruva takes a job working for a liberal white family and then moves on to manage the farm of Brian Sanderson, a white lawyer. While Ruva’s daughters are away at school, a lasting romance—one that crosses racial and social boundaries—develops between Ruva and Brian. Meanwhile, the lives of her talented daughters move on radically different paths, as Hilda pursues her doctorate while Matie lies about her education. She takes a job on a cruise ship, marries a rich playboy, and moves to London, ignoring her family back home. Ruva’s personal growth continues as she becomes an activist for women’s issues, one that carries dangerous consequences. When tragedy strikes again, her family bonds are tested and bring her full circle. Once again, she is reunited in love with those who bid no farewell.

Bidding for Development by Ngiste Abebe,Mary Trina Bolton,Maggie Pavelka,Morgan Pierstorff Pdf

In 2012, over four billion people tuned in to watch the London Summer Olympics. As the single largest mega-event in the world, the Olympics has the power to captivate the global imagination. Long before athletes vie for a gold medal, however, competition between cities eager to host the Games kicks off with a rigorous bid process. The lengthy and expensive endeavor to host the Olympics is as high-stakes as any sporting event. Rather than encouraging cities to refrain from bidding, Bidding for Development takes a policy approach that challenges stakeholders to bid responsibly and strategically in pursuit of concrete outcomes. Every bid city has the potential to accelerate long-term transportation development through a strategic and robust planning process. This book concentrates on the phenomenon of repeat Olympic bids and the opportunities that may come from bidding, particularly for those cities that never win the Games. In this context, Bidding for Development explores the intersection between transportation infrastructure development, the Olympic bid process, and the resulting legacies experienced by bid losers. The findings address the central question: how can participating in the Olympic bid process accelerate transportation development regardless of the bid result? In response, this book presents a Bid Framework outlining how and when cities may use the bid to unite resources, align transportation priorities, and empower leaders to achieve urban development objectives in preparation for the Olympic bid. The Bid Framework is then applied to two case studies, Manchester and Istanbul, to examine each bid loser's effectiveness in using the bid process to catalyze transportation development. Concurrently, the book takes into consideration how the International Olympic Committee’s evolving bid regulations and requirements relate to urban development and positive social legacy. Bidding for Development delivers actionable recommendations for all Olympic stakeholders to improve the value of the bid process and transportation benefits beyond the Games.
