Blood Stains by Patricia Springer Pdf

Case seen on The Today Show, Dateline, and 60 Minutes II A Mother's Worst Nightmare On May 22, 1993, while away from home on a bowling trip, Janet McGinn received the terrifying news that her twelve-year-old daughter Stephanie was missing. After three agonizing days and a massive search, she would learn the heartbreaking truth: Stephanie had been brutally raped and then bludgeoned to death with an axe--her body stuffed into a roadside culvert. A Stepfather's Sins Police in Texas' Brown County suspected that they wouldn't have to look far to find her killer. Their suspicions were soon confirmed when traces of blood believed to be Stephanie's were found in a car belonging to the girl's stepfather, Ricky McGinn, 43. The black sheep of a family of preachers and gospel singers, McGinn had previously been convicted of kidnapping, and now detectives had arrived at a horrifying speculation-- that McGinn was also responsible for the unsolved rape-murders of two young women. A Stay of Execution Found guilty of Stephanie's murder, McGinn was sentenced to death. But on June 1, 2000, 18 minutes before execution time, he received a postponement ordered by then-Texas governor George W. Bush. The reprieve had been granted so that McGinn's DNA could be tested against that found at the crime scene. It took four nerve-wracking months to prove conclusively that McGinn was the killer, and on September 27, 2000, this monstrous child-killer finally kept his date with the executioner. 16 Pages of Shocking Photos

Blood Stain by Peter Lalor Pdf

The true story of Katherine Knight, the mother and abattoir worker who became Australia's worst female killer. A must for true crime fans. 'There are murders and there are murders. There are bodies and there are bodies, and then there's what lies waiting behind the front door of the little brick house with its blinds drawn and air conditioner droning on, working against the oppressive Hunter Valley heat. A glimpse into the dark, cockroach corners of the soul. A lot of the blokes at the scene that day will never be the same.' On 29 February 2000, Katherine Knight committed an unspeakable act. A mother of four and a grandmother, she seduced and then stabbed John Price 37 times. A former abattoir worker, she skinned him. A loving partner, she cooked him with vegetables, making a soup with his head. Made gravy. Left him on plates for his family. Why? Pricey was her de facto and he wanted out. She didn't like that. People said that most of the time Katherine Knight seemed normal, until she got angry. She was judged to be legally sane when she committed a crime so horrible that the media shied away from the detail. Journalist Peter Lalor covered the trial and wanted to know what made Knight go way over the borderline. In this unflinching account he uncovers the layers of her dysfunction, opening the door of 84 St Andrews Street and taking us into the lives of Knight's ex-partners, her family and the locals of Aberdeen, NSW. Katherine Knight is currently the only woman serving a life sentence in Australia. She is never to be released.

Effectiveness of oxidizing reagents in removal of blood stains by Ishita Bharadia Pdf

Academic Paper from the year 2019 in the subject Chemistry - Analytical Chemistry, grade: A, , language: English, abstract: This text is focussing on the effectiveness of oxidizing reagents in removal of blood stains. Adjustments, amendments, and concealing of the crime evidence have resulted in an increment in the world’s crime rate. One such recurring hindrance can be seen with the most vital forms of evidence; bloodstains. Bloodstains are considered to be one of the most difficult stains to remove and even after cleaning them off the clothes through the detergents available in the market, there are some colored traces left which do not disappear completely and can be detected. Forensic scientists use luminol to detect bloodstains which when reacted with iron in blood stains exhibit chemiluminescence. This led to thinking of to what extent were these criminals able to manage the escape by washing the stains and hinder the evidence. After researching about the detergents from journals and websites like "The Science of Stain Removal, Study of Oxyper- H2O2, and Study of sodium perborate" and also studying the effect of various compounds present in them, it was found out that the active oxygen reagents were the sources through which bloodstain removal was possible. This helped in framing a research idea: To what extent does the change in mass of the oxidizing reagent, sodium perborate, sodium percarbonate and hydrogen peroxide found in detergents is effective in removing bloodstains, measured by spectrophotometric analysis of change in chemiluminescence intensity of luminol due to the oxidation of ferrous to ferric ions in stock solution containing oxidizing agents and iron solution imitating blood at room temperature (30°C)? In this essay, the correlation between the removal of the stains and the extent to which it depends on the amount of reagent was measured. The decrease in chemiluminescence signifies the extent to which the stains are removed. On this basis, the cleansing action of various oxidizing agents like hydrogen peroxide, sodium perborate, and sodium percarbonate was compared. Seeing the competence of the strongest oxidizing reagent, it can be considered that this research will be useful for forensic science departments to detect the extent to which evidence was tried to be concealed as all the oxidizing agents contain H2O2 and even after washing the clothes, some content of H2O2 is left. It will also be valuable for the detergent manufacturers because, through this research, they will opt for a better oxidizing agent to yield a better cleansing action.

Dried Blood Spots by Wenkui Li,Mike S. Lee Pdf

An informative and comprehensive book on the applications andtechniques of dried blood spot sampling Dried blood spot (DBS) sampling involves the collection of asmall volume of blood, via a simple prick or other means, from astudy subject onto a cellulose or polymer paper card, which isfollowed by drying and transfer to the laboratory for analysis. Formany years, this method of blood sample collection has beenextensively utilized in some important areas of human healthcare(for example, newborn screening for inherited metabolic disordersand HIV-related epidemiological studies). Because of its advantagesover conventional blood, plasma, or serum sample collection, DBSsampling has been valued by the pharmaceutical industry in drugresearch and development. Dried Blood Spots: Applications and Techniques featurescontributions from an international team of leading scientists inthe field. Their contributions present a unique resource on thehistory, principles, procedures, methodologies, applications, andemerging technologies related to DBS. Presented in three parts, the book thoroughly examines: Applications of DBS sampling and associated procedures andmethodologies in various human healthcare studies Applications and perspectives of DBS sampling in drug researchand development, and therapeutic drug monitoring New technologies and emerging applications related to DBSsampling and analysis Dried Blood Spots: Applications and Techniques is avaluable working guide for researchers, professionals, and studentsin healthcare, medical science, diagnostics, clinical chemistry, and pharmaceuticals, etc.

Interpretation of Bloodstain Evidence at Crime Scenes, Second Edition by William G. Eckert,Stuart H. James Pdf

As witnessed in landmark criminal cases, the quality and integrity of bloodstain evidence can be a crucial factor in determining a verdict. Since the first edition of Interpretation of Bloodstain Evidence at Crime Scenes was published nearly a decade ago, bloodstain pattern interpretation has continued to grow as a branch of forensic science. Revised and updated to reflect new technology and developments in the field, the second edition is packed with new information and illustrations-including 421 photographs and diagrams of improved quality that will aid in interpretation of evidence. Expanding on a single chapter presented in the bestselling first edition, the second edition details, in four chapters, an introduction to bloodstain interpretation; low-velocity impact and angular considerations; medium and high-velocity impact; and the significance of partially dried, clotted, aged, and physically altered bloodstains in four new chapters. A full chapter on the detection of blood with luminol, featuring high-quality, full-color photographs of luminol reactions, has been added. This new edition also includes 12 new case studies in addition to 8 original case studies from the first edition that have been retained for their interpretative value. Everyone involved in crime scene evaluation and interpretation-law enforcement officers, criminologists, medical examiners, forensic pathologists, medicolegal personnel, and prosecutors and defense attorneys-will benefit from the improved and expanded second edition of this definitive reference.
