Cardboard in Architecture by M. Eekhout,F. Verheijen,R. Visser Pdf

The Department of Building Technology at the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft is studying and developing cardboard as a potential building material on a broad, systematic and, where possible, comprehensive basis. The guiding research question is: “How can cardboard be used in both architectural and structural terms as a fully fledged building material, making use of the material-specific properties?” An exploratory phase from 2003 to 2005 – including an outdoor pilot structure (multi-shed), a pilot pavilion accommodating; an exhibition, workshops on resistance to fire and to damp, a first patent (KCPK), the design of an interior wall (Besin) and the publication of this book – was concluded by an international symposium attended by both the paper industry and the building industry. This publication comprises the report on that symposium.

The Cardboard Boat Book by Anonim Pdf

A step-by-step instruction manual on how to build a lightweight 'environmentally-friendly' boat with recyclable resources. The boats simply fold up from ¼” thick cardboard obtaining their strength from the geometry of the component parts. The boats are 8-feet long, weigh about 25-pounds, and can accommodate a 250-pound person without risking structural damage. Each boat is constructed with 21-pieces of cardboard that are used to make 7-component parts. The 7 parts are assembled together with 'environmentally-friendly' contact cement and paper drywall tape. Once assembled the boats are sealed with an 'environmentally-friendly' water-based waterproof coating. No special tools are required and they are very simple to build. All of the materials used to build a boat are typically found at 'do-it-yourself' home improvement stores. The boats can be outfitted with 12-volt electric fishing motors, although they are typically propelled with traditional Kayak style paddles.

The Cardboard Valise by Ben Katchor Pdf

Ben Katchor (“The creator of the last great American comic strip.”—Michael Chabon) gives us his first book in more than ten years: the story of the fantastical nation of Outer Canthus and the three people who, in some way or another, inhabit its shores. Emile Delilah is a young xenophile (lover of foreign nations) so addicted to traveling to the exotic regions of Outer Canthus that the government pays him a monthly stipend just so he can continue his visits. Living in the same tenement as Emile are Boreal Rince, the exiled king of Outer Canthus, and Elijah Salamis, a supranationalist determined to erase the cultural and geographic boundaries that separate the citizens of the Earth. Although they rarely meet, their lives intertwine through the elaborate fictions they construct and inhabit: a vast panorama of humane hamburger stands, exquisitely ethereal ethnic restaurants, ancient restroom ruins, and wild tracts of land that fit neatly next to high-rise hotels. The Cardboard Valise is a graphic novel as travelogue; a canvas of semi-surrealism; and a poetic, whimsical, beguiling work of Ben Katchor’s dazzling imagination.

A Cardboard Castle? by Vojtech Mastny,Malcolm Byrne Pdf

This is the first book to document, analyze, and interpret the history of the Warsaw Pact based on the archives of the alliance itself. As suggested by the title, the Soviet bloc military machine that held the West in awe for most of the Cold War does not appear from the inside as formidable as outsiders often believed, nor were its strengths and weaknesses the same at different times in its surprisingly long history, extending for almost half a century.

Cardboard & Cigarettes by Eelkje VanderMeulen-Smart Pdf

No ordinary childhood of a young immigrant girl growing up in Alberta, Canada, rolls out fast, exciting, colourful and authentic. The astonishing thing is life was really like that. Left alone in a tiny, dark closet, with only a cardboard box, I tore off a piece of the cardboard, and stuck it in my mouth, and chewed and chewed and chewed before swallowing. He my teacher was chasing me down the street and the whole time he was screaming at the top of his lungs, "You're really in trouble this time!" “Oh God help me,” I prayed. I was so afraid of my teacher and never wanted to go back to school again. Growing up as an immigrant child is not easy. The pressure they face is high. Unlike adults, children are still in the process of creating their identities and being caught between two cultures can create internal conflicts. We arrived in a completely new environment with its share of challenges. Having to rebuild our lives from the bottom up.

The Cardboard House by Martín Adán Pdf

A sweeping, kaleidoscopic, and passionate novel that presents a stunning series of flashes — scenes, moods, dreams, and weather— as the narrator wanders through Lima. Published in 1928 to great acclaim when its author was just twenty years old, The Cardboard House is sweeping, kaleidoscopic, and passionate. The novel presents a stunning series of flashes — scenes, moods, dreams, and weather— as the narrator wanders through Barranco (then an exclusive seaside resort outside Lima). In one beautiful, radical passage after another, he skips from reveries of first loves, South Pole explorations, and ocean tides, to precise and unashamed notations of class and of race: an Indian woman “with her hard, shiny, damp head of hair—a mud carving,” to a gringo gobbling “synthetic milk, canned meat, hard liquor.” Adán’s own aristocratic family was in financial freefall at the time, and, as the translator notes, The Cardboard House is as “subversive now as when it was written: Adán’s uncompromising poetic vision and the trueness and poetry of his voice constitute a heroic act against cultural colonialism.”

The Cardboard Kingdom #2: Roar of the Beast by Chad Sell Pdf

Perfect for fans of Raina Telgemeier and All's Faire in Middle School, this sequel to the Eisner Award-nominated The Cardboard Kingdom follows the kids as they solve the mystery of a new neighborhood monster. A mystery is afoot in the Cardboard Kingdom. Vijay, the Beast, renounces his title after being bullied by neighborhood teenagers. No one--not his big sister Shikha or his friends--can seem to draw him back out of his shell. That very night is when it starts. At first, no one believes Nate, who breaks his leg trying to pursue what he saw from his bedroom window. But then there's another, and another. An unknown monster has been spotted roaming the Kingdom after dark. It's ghastly, it's quick, and it might even have giant tentacles. Or claws. Or wings. Okay, there might be some varied testimonies on what exactly this monster looks like. Forget Halloween--the newly minted Monster Mashers will go to any lengths to protect the Kingdom and uncover this mystery. But how did the monster get here? What does it want? And mostly importantly, who is behind its creation? The Cardboard Kingdom: Roar of the Beast was created, organized, and drawn by Chad Sell with writing from nine other authors: Jay Fuller, David DeMeo, Katie Schenkel, Molly Muldoon, Vid Alliger, Manuel Betancourt, Michael Cole, Cloud Jacobs, and Barbara Perez Marquez.
