Carmel in England by B. Zimmerman Pdf

Excerpt from Carmel in England: A History of the English Mission of the Discalced Carmelites; 1615 to 1849; Drawn From Documents Preserved in the Archives of the Order More than ten years ago, a collection of documents and memoirs, chiefly Latin and Italian, referring to the missions of the Order of Discalced Carmelites, was placed into my hands. The subject appeared to me to be of sufficiently general interest, and, at the same time, one so little known, that, with the blessing of the Eminent Prince of the Church, whose name adorns the Dedication page of this book, I began to write a brief History of the English Mission, which I now present to the public. Owing to the dispersion, and partial loss, of our Archives, it necessarily assumes a more or less fragmentary form, yet I have spared neither time or labour in endeavouring to make it as complete as possible. Every available source of information has been thoroughly examined, and no name or date has been allowed to pass without investigation as to its accuracy. One great difficulty with which I have had to contend was the almost systematical suppression of the names of persons with whom the Carmelite missioners had to deal. Contraception and Modern Ireland by Laura Kelly Pdf

Contraception was the subject of intense controversy in twentieth-century Ireland. Banned in 1935 and stigmatised by the Catholic Church, it was the focus of some of the most polarised debates before and after its legalisation in 1979. This is the first comprehensive, dedicated history of contraception in Ireland from the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922 to the 1990s. Drawing on the experiences of Irish citizens through a wide range of archival sources and oral history, Laura Kelly provides insights into the lived experiences of those negotiating family planning, alongside the memories of activists who campaigned for and against legalisation. She highlights the influence of the Catholic Church's teachings and legal structures on Irish life showing how, for many, sex and contraception were obscured by shame. Yet, in spite of these constraints, many Irish women and men showed resistance in accessing contraceptive methods. This title is also available as Open Access.

One God in One Man by C. T. Benedict Pdf

This book aims to enlighten the readers to the reasons and arguments for believing in the existence of God, Jesus Christ is the true Messiah and to disprove the unfounded and blasphemous allegations made against Christ and the Universal Church by some fictional writers, who have attempted to ridicule Christ, and to reduce the standing of the Gospel to a product of political forces which allegedly operated, to determine as to which text should be included in the Canon and which should be edited out, rather than considering the Gospel as the literal work of God.
