They both stay for a few months, but Xenos knows he must return to the planet Barunda with Chandra. Dukar, Xenos' trusted friend, offers a solution; they concoct a plan to leave Eurleau, undetected by the Ny'Karins. Their plan fails but through a twist of fate, Chandra's own plan succeeds. She escapes and stows away on a ship heading to Aurora, there she is thrown into another brothel. Shortly after, an enigmatic bounty hunter emerges into the scene. She storms the brothel and takes Chandra. After spending time with Makea, Chandra manages to escape from the bounty hunter and makes her way to Carlos, a merchant's slave who she met before she was sold to Xenos. Together, along with her best friend Keeja, they travel to Lyvia, where they meet Treau a changeling. He helps them get to Avolea, a mysterious forest deep within the continent Lyvia. It is there where Chandra's fate takes a turn. At the sanctuary she discovers the truth of who she is, her connection to Soran, and the foreboding fate that awaits her. The Global Quest for Sustainability by Carlo Secchi,Alessandro Gili Pdf

In the aftermath of the pandemic, global demand for infrastructure is booming. National plans around the world show that infrastructure is likely to provide the backbone for a resurgence in public expenditure, and to support growth in economies badly hit by the pandemic. As all the biggest powers and blocs (the EU, the US, China, and Japan) have recently announced their plans for climate or carbon neutrality, the room and need for green and sustainable infrastucture are greatly expanding. Decarbonisation and digitalisation will be underpinning this latest investment drive in infrastructure, with sustainability and ESG principles at its core. However, infrastructure expenditure will not come without risk: after the pandemic, the world will be left with the highest levels of public andprivate debt since World War II, and the sustainability of key investment decisions must be carefully evaluated. How to foster quality and sustainable infrastructure investment? What role for the private sector? What future for sustainable mobility? What kind of policies will countries adopt to reach carbon neutrality?

Chandra by Kameshwar C. Wali Pdf

Chandra is an intimate portrait of a highly private and brilliant man, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, a Nobel laureate in physics who has been a major contributor to the theories of white dwarfs and black holes. "Wali has given us a magnificent portrait of Chandra, full of life and color, with a deep understanding of the three cultures—Indian, British, and American—in which Chandra was successively immersed. . . . I wish I had the job of reviewing this book for the New York Times rather than for Physics Today. If the book is only read by physicists, then Wali's devoted labors were in vain."—Freeman Dyson, Physics Today "An enthralling human document."—William McCrea, Times Higher Education Supplement "A dramatic, exuberant biography of one of the century's great scientists."—Publishers Weekly

Ramesh Chandra Agarwal (English) by Bharathi S Pradhan Pdf

The building of the no. 1 newspaper empire in India was like an architect ground plan – Ramesh Chandra Agarwal laid the foundation edition by edition, city by city, state by state, going into the den of the mightiest and slaying them without fear. That quality of never cowering was an inheritance from his father. Ramesh Chandra blended it with an unparalleled taste for risk-taking and a thirst for venturing into the unknown, throwing this molotov cocktail at his rivals who stood mocking the new entrants before it hit them. In 35 short years, he turned a modest family-owned newspaper into the prime choice of readers In 12 states with 64 editions, and built an empire with a turnover of Rs 5, 000 crore. But Ramesh Chandra Agarwal’s biggest professional achievement was to revolutionise the Hindi newspaper. Replacing the pure, undistilled Hindi of the discerning litterateur with popular, colloquial words that made an easy connect, he gave the Hindi newspaper a hitherto unknown respect – to heave its chest and play the game like a champion. This is a champion’s story.

Chandra's Cosmos by Wallace H. Tucker Pdf

On July 23, 1999, the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, the most powerful X-ray telescope ever built, was launched aboard the space shuttle Columbia. Since then, Chandra has given us a view of the universe that is largely hidden from telescopes sensitive only to visible light. In Chandra's Cosmos, the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory's Chandra science spokesperson Wallace H. Tucker uses a series of short, connected stories to describe the telescope's exploration of the hot, high-energy face of the universe. The book is organized in three parts: "The Big," covering the cosmic web, dark energy, dark matter, and massive clusters of galaxies; "The Bad," exploring neutron stars, stellar black holes, and supermassive black holes; and "The Beautiful," discussing stars, exoplanets, and life. Chandra has imaged the spectacular, glowing remains of exploded stars and taken spectra showing the dispersal of their elements. Chandra has observed the region around the supermassive black hole in the center of our Milky Way and traced the separation of dark matter from normal matter in the collision of galaxies, contributing to both dark matter and dark energy studies. Tucker explores the implications of these observations in an entertaining, informative narrative aimed at space buffs and general readers alike.

The Mathematical Legacy of Harish-Chandra by Harish-Chandra,Robert S. Doran,V. S. Varadarajan Pdf

Harish-Chandra was a mathematician of great power, vision, and remarkable ingenuity. His profound contributions to the representation theory of Lie groups, harmonic analysis, and related areas left researchers a rich legacy that continues today. This book presents the proceedings of an AMS Special Session entitled, ""Representation Theory and Noncommutative Harmonic Analysis: A Special Session Honoring the Memory of Harish-Chandra"", which marked 75 years since his birth and 15 years since his untimely death at age 60. Contributions to the volume were written by an outstanding group of internationally known mathematicians. Included are expository and historical surveys and original research papers. The book also includes talks given at the IAS Memorial Service in 1983 by colleagues who knew Harish-Chandra well. Also reprinted are two articles entitled, ""Some Recollections of Harish-Chandra"", by A. Borel, and ""Harish-Chandra's c-Function: A Mathematical Jewel"", by S. Helgason. In addition, an expository paper, ""An Elementary Introduction to Harish-Chandra's Work"", gives an overview of some of his most basic mathematical ideas with references for further study. This volume offers a comprehensive retrospective of Harish-Chandra's professional life and work. Personal recollections give the book particular significance. Readers should have an advanced-level background in the representation theory of Lie groups and harmonic analysis. For other wonderful titles written by this author see: ""Euler through Time: A New Look at Old Themes"", ""Supersymmetry for Mathematicians: An Introduction"", ""The Selected Works of V.S. Varadarajan"", and ""Algebra in Ancient and Modern Times"".

The Temple Road Towards a Great India by Marta Kudelska,Dorota Kamińska-Jones ,Agnieszka Staszczyk,Agata Świerzowska Pdf

This book presents an analysis of the foundations organised by the Birla family in India. Several generations were involved in the renovation and establishment of sanctuaries, temples and other sacral buildings. As a result, between 1933 and 1998, nineteen Birla Mandirs were established, mainly in northern and central India. All the temples have the capacity to surprise with their various decorative motifs, not seen in other places, which – apart from their aesthetic function – above all bear important symbolic content. Therefore, is it possible to treat the Birla Mandirs as a specific medium – the carrier of a particular message that is not only religious, but with a significance that permeates other layers of social and political discourse. This message, as the authors of the book claim, have a bearing on the socio-political thought of India – supported by the creation and propagation of ideas related to identity and a national art. It also conveys the idea of hierarchical Hindu inclusivism which, although considering all religions as equal, treats Hinduism in a unique way – seeing within it the most perfect form of religion, giving man the opportunity to learn the highest truth. The book also examines whether the temples founded by the Birla family and the religious activities undertaken therein apply the concept of “inventing” tradition, and whether traditions created (or “modernised”) in contemporary times are a way of enhancing the appeal of the message conveyed from temple to society. “The Vastness of Culture” is a series of publications presenting cultural studies and emphasizing the role of comparative research and analyses that reveal similarities, differences and intercultural influences. In our publications, cultures and civilizations are in a state of constant flux, engaging in dialogue, creating new understandings, competing for meaning under the influence of global content, without any clear boundaries, but with a vastness that forces questions to be raised.

S Chandrasekhar: The Man Behind the Legend by Kameshwar C Wali Pdf

Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar — known simply as Chandra throughout the scientific world — has become a legendary figure for his prolific contributions to physics, astrophysics, and applied mathematics. Before his death in 1995, Chandra had forbidden a memorial of the conventional sort, celebrating his life. This book, which contains some thirty articles by his former students, his associates, and his colleagues, is in a sense a memorial volume. It says little about Chandra's great scientific achievements, but shows his human side and the various facets of his brilliant personality, his incredible memory, his wit, and the breadth of his knowledge of art, music, literature, and the humanities in general. The contributors to this highly interesting book are among the few who broke the seemingly forbidden barrier surrounding the very private Chandra and came to know him well in one context or another. They include Lalitha Chandrasekhar, Roger Penrose, Richard H Dalitz, J W Cronin, Robert G Sachs, Abhay Ashtekar, and Robert Wald. Contents:“My Everlasting Flame” (L Chandrasekhar)S Chandrasekhar: A Personal Portrait (A Ashtekar)Exploring General Relativity with Chandra (V Ferrari)Chandrasekhar and the End of Time (R Penrose)Some Memories of Chandra (R M Wald)Chandra in Focus (S Kumar)Reminiscences of Chandra (J W Cronin)Some Personal Recollections of S Chandrasekhar at Chicago and Oxford (R H Dalitz)A Towering Figure: Reminiscences and Reflections (L Mestel)Reminiscences About Chandra (R G Sachs)and other papers Readership: General. Fluid Flows To Black Holes: A Tribute To S Chandrasekhar On His Birth Centenary by Dhruba Jyoti Saikia,Virginia Trimble Pdf

This unique book contains a biographical portrait, accounts of Chandrasekhar's role and impact on modern science, historical perspectives and personal reminiscences, several of which appeared in Physics Today, and reviews by leading experts in areas which Prof. Chandrasekhar pioneered. The reviews, which appeared in the Bulletin of the Astronomical Society of India, are either based on papers presented by scholars in the Chandrasekhar Centennial Symposium at the University of Chicago during 15-17 October 2010, or were additional reviews covering topics not represented at the conference by other distinguished astrophysicists. It provides a glimpse of some of the most exciting areas of modern astrophysics as a tribute to Prof Chandrasekhar on his birth centenary.
