Re/Imagining Depression by Julie Hollenbach,Robin Alex McDonald Pdf

What is depression? An “imagined sun, bright and black at the same time?” A “noonday demon?” In literature, poetry, comics, visual art, and film, we witness new conceptualizations of depression come into being. Unburdened by diagnostic criteria and pharmaceutical politics, these media employ imagery, narrative, symbolism, and metaphor to forge imaginative, exploratory, and innovative representations of a range of experiences that might get called “depression.” Texts such as Julia Kristeva’s Black Sun: Depression and Melancholia (1989), Andrew Solomon’s The Noonday Demon (2000), Allie Brosh’s cartoons, “Adventures in Depression” (2011) and “Depression Part Two” (2013), and Lars von Trier’s film Melancholia (2011) each offer portraits of depression that deviate from, or altogether reject, the dominant language of depression that has been articulated by and within psychiatry. Most recently, Ann Cvetkovich’s Depression: A Public Feeling (2012) has answered the author’s own call for a multiplication of discourses on depression by positing crafting as one possible method of working through depression-as-“impasse.” Inspired by Cvetkovich’s efforts to re-shape the depressive experience itself and the critical ways in which we communicate this experience to others, Re/Imagining Depression: Creative Approaches to “Feeling Bad” harnesses critical theory, gender studies, critical race theory, affect theory, visual art, performance, film, television, poetry, literature, comics, and other media to generate new paradigms for thinking about the depressive experience. Through a combination of academic essays, prose, poetry, and interviews, this anthology aims to destabilize the idea of the mental health “expert” to instead demonstrate the diversity of affects, embodiments, rituals and behaviors that are often collapsed under the singular rubric of “depression.”

Angels by Andy Angel Pdf

If you think you know all about angels, think again! Although the modern Western world claims to have left angels behind as mythical creatures, they are back in popular culture. And much of what people are thinking, exploring, and believing about them finds its roots in ancient Jewish and Christian beliefs. Andrew Angel opens up the surprising world of angels to interested enquirers through an examination of the ancient Jewish and Christian texts in which they are found. He asks questions about what angels have to do with religious ecstasy, surviving suffering, and politics, among other things--finding surprising and sometimes controversial answers. Informed by the latest scholarship yet accessible to all, this book provides a well-researched and thought-provoking introduction to angels.

Until he discovers how to start believing and understanding his feelings for what he feels at the deepest reaches of his heart. He battles problems of the mind, fears, and doubts to discover what he doubted was his truth and the truth of so many. Through his trials and tribulations, he discovers the one thing he had lost for so longhis heart. On his journey of self-discovery, he finds out there is another like him, only she doesn't realize the journey in which she is partaking. It becomes a battle to aid her into coming out of the darkness as he is attempting. He realizes a mission. If she could only open up to the truth and gather the knowledge, he tries to give her. She too might really enjoy her purpose and, that she actually has purpose and her existence accounts for something in the multitudes of what is abnormal. In addition, just how important she really is to the others who are a lot like her but do not realize it yet. Can Rene find the strength to understand his feelings? Will Rene seek to fight for those who really need him? Can Rene bring her out of the darkness while he too stands in that darkness? Can he find a way to understand its limits, walk out of that darkness, and be the abnormal thing he knows deep down he is? Can he find the strength to admit it and believe it without doubting his heart again? After all, why are humans, humans? The reason is simple. That is what they want to be known as with their presence on earth. However, if they have a concept of angels or aliens, then they must be aware that they were once part of the angels or aliens somewhere. What the supposed humans do not realize is that they were from another planet as well. This is something Rene understands or remembers which many do not. Unfortunately.

Oahspe: A New Bible by John Ballou Newbrough Pdf

Oahspe: A New Bible is a book published in 1882, purporting to contain "new revelations" from "...the Embassadors of the angel hosts of heaven prepared and revealed unto man in the name of Jehovih..." It was produced by an American dentist, John Ballou Newbrough (1828–1891), who reported it to have been written by automatic writing. Oahspe comprises a series of related interior books chronicling earth and its heavenly administrations, as well as setting forth teachings for modern times. Over 100 drawings are included. According to Oahspe, the Creator is both masculine and feminine. Om is one of the names used to refer to the feminine (mother) aspect. Other references include, "The All Person", "The unseen" and "The Everpresent", "The All Light", "The Highest Light". God and Lord are titles of office for a person in the spirit realm who began life as mortal/in corporeal form (spirit within a body). The Creator is all and was all and forever will be all; S/he was never born and is beyond all gods. The Creator is our father and mother, and all that are and were born are our brothers and sisters.

Creation and Chaos Talk by Eric M. Vail Pdf

Talk about chaos is pervasive. Biblical scholars, theologians, and scientists have been using the word chaos for some time, occasionally mingling ideas across disciplines around the shared word. Quite often, discussions of chaos center on the issues of creation's origin and nature, as well as on God's creative methods and relationship to creation. Eric M. Vail investigates the current uses of the word chaos in those areas. A new way of articulating creation out of nothing is offered as both helpful and appropriate in our current milieu. He suggests where we ought to focus our use of the word chaos in Christian discourse and argues that chaos is more fitting for naming where creation has gone awry rather than for naming that state out of which creation comes to be.
