Chemical Thermodynamics of Uranium by Ingmar Grenthe Pdf

This volume provides a comprehensive overview on the chemical thermodynamics of those elements that are of particular importance in the safety assessment of radioactive waste disposal systems. This is the first volume in a series of critical reviews to be published on this subject. The book provides an extensive compilation of chemical thermodynamic data for uranium. A description of procedures for activity corrections and uncertainty estimates is given. A critical discussion of data needed for nuclear waste management assessments, including areas where significant gaps of knowledge exist is presented. A detailed inventory of chemical thermodynamic data for inorganic compounds and complexes of uranium is listed. Data and their uncertainty limits are recommended for 74 aqueous complexes and 199 solid and 31 gaseous compounds containing uranium, and on 52 aqueous and 17 solid auxiliary species containing no uranium. The data are internally consistent and compatible with the CODATA Key Values. The book contains a detailed discussion of procedures used for activity factor corrections in aqueous solution, as well as including methods for making uncertainty estimates.

Update on the Chemical Thermodynamics of Uranium, Neptunium, Plutonium, Americium and Technetium by R. Guillaumont Pdf

This volume is part of the series on "Chemical Thermodynamics", published under the aegis of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency, and updates and expands the thermodynamic data on inorganic compounds and complexes of uranium, neptunium, plutonium, americium and technetium contained in the previous volumes of the series. A review team, composed of seven internationally recognized experts, has critically reviewed during five years all the scientific literature containing chemical thermodynamic information for the above mentioned systems that has appeared since the publication of the earlier volumes. The results of this critical review carried out following the Guidelines of the OECD NEA Thermochemical Database Project have been documented in the present volume, which contains new tables of selected values for formation and reaction thermodynamical properties and an extensive bibliography.

Chemical Thermodynamics of Neptunium and Plutonium by Robert J. Lemire Pdf

Unlike earlier books in this series, this review describes the selection of chemical thermodynamic data for species of two elements, neptunium and plutonium. Although this came about more by circumstance than design, it has allowed for a more consistent approach to chemical interpretation than might have occurred in two separate treatments. It has also drawn attention to cases where the available data do not show expected parallels, and where further work may be useful to confirm or refute apparent differences in the behaviour of neptunium and plutonium.

Chemical Thermodynamics of Americium by R.J. Silva,G. Bidoglio,P.B. Robouch,I. Puigdomenech,H. Wanner,M.H. Rand Pdf

This is the second volume in a series of critical reviews of the chemical thermodynamic data of those elements of particular importance in the safety assessment modeling of high-level radioactive waste storage and disposal facilities. The objective of these reviews is to provide a set of reliable thermodynamic data that can be used to describe the behaviour of these elements under conditions relevant for radioactive waste disposal systems and the geochemical environments. The present volume is a review of experimental data reported in the literature for americium. On a few occasions, where no data existed, comparisons and estimates were made based on experimental data on analog lanthanide elements. The basic philosophy was to develop a minimum set of solid phases and solution species of americium that would fit all experimental data being reviewed.

Equation of State of Uranium Dioxide by C. Ronchi,I.L. Iosilevski,E.S. Yakub Pdf

In the beginning of the 1990’s, in the course of the events which were rapidly cha- ing the political con?guration of the East European countries, the crisis which - vested the vast research apparatus of the former Soviet Union was entailing con- quences whose dimension and depth were immediately realized by the international scienti?c community. In the same years, however, the most important branch of nuclear energy - searchanddevelopment, inparticularthatconcerning?ssionreactor, wasworldwide undergoing a substantial reduction due to a variety of decisional situations. Yet, paradoxically, it was a very good fortune that a number of concerns on the future of nuclear research were shared by East- and West-European scientists, especially those who were working in advanced ?elds. In fact, the only hope for coping with an uncertain future was to erect bridges between similar institutions and employ safeguarding tactics linked to a long term collaboration strategy. A decade later, this proved to be a winning decision, since the revival of nuclear energy is presently starting from a basis of common intentions and a network of established cooperation, whose seeds are to be searched in those initial, individual e?orts.

Nagra/PSI Chemical Thermodynamic Data Base 01/01 by Wolfgang Hummel,Urs Berner,Enzo Curti,F. J. Pearson,Tres Thoenen Pdf

The Nagra/PSI Chemical Thermodynamic Data Base 01/01 is an encyclopedia of thermodynamic data recommended for environmental studies. The data base focuses on elements commonly found as major solutes in natural waters, and on actinides and fission products relevant for radioactive waste disposal projects. It is the official chemical thermodynamic data base used in Swiss radioactive waste disposal projects. The detailed discussion of every number recommended in this encyclopedia is the result of a multi man-year project of the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI), a Swiss National Lab. The five authors of this work have many years of experience in research, data base development and the application of thermodynamic data in environmental studies. The data included for many elements are based on their reviews of the basic literature. The data base also includes additional data selected by the authors from recommendations of other experts in ground- water geochemistry and of the international data base project of the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA).This report is indispensable for every scientist working in the field of environmental studies as the comprehensive source of information on the quality of the thermodynamic data governing particular problems in environmental geochemistry, especially those concerned with the fate of hazardous substances. This enables graduate students, researchers and consultants, as well as regulators and reviewers of scientific papers to assess the scientific basis of environmental modeling studies. The encyclopedia can be used as a stand-alone source of knowledge but amplereferences are provided for readers who wish to go beyond the level of discussion in the book. An electronic version of the data base and a data base management program is available for download at our homepage (http://les.web.psi.ch/TDBbook.htm).
