Beevor in the British Medical Journal denies the statement as made in Dr. Gowans work on epilepsy that a loss of weight of from one to twelve pounds is seen after an epileptic seizure. This re minds us of the tale of the French aca damecian. For a long time it was stated that a fish could be immersed in a vessel full of water and no water displaced. The statement passed as Gospel Truth until some one a little less foolish than the rest tried it. The water ran over of course. So it is with many of the statements in medicine bordering on the fabulous. Ap pealing, as they do, to the love of the won derful, they pass current for truth until some incredulous individual takes courage enough to challenge the statement. Query in the above case? Granted a man of average weight, say one hundred and fifty pounds, number of fits per week two and the nutrition of the patient below par as it would be, how long would it take before undertaker would be called. Excerpt from Chicago Medical Review, Vol. 6: August 1, 1882 Diabetes IN children. - If glycosuria be not infrequently met with in children under five years as a symptom of many affections, true diabetes, represented clini cally by polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia and emaciation, is rare. West has never observed it. Prout never met with a sin gle case. Dr. Vignes, l'isle Sur le Sevin Yone, France, (journal de Médecine et de Chirurgie Pratique, July, reports the case of a child three years old who was well developed for her age, her parents apparently healthy, who suddenly devel oped a great appetite three weeks before coming under his observation. She also complained of great thirst, and became greatly emaciated. When Dr. Vignes saw her, her skin was markedly dry; her bowels were constipated, and She was suffering from polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia and emaciation. Sugar was found in the urine, but albumen was not present. The dis ease ran a rapid course, and she died five weeks after the first symptoms.
