Christianity and the New Idealism by Rudolf Eucken Pdf

Excerpt from Christianity and the New Idealism: A Study in the Religious Philosophy of to-Day This book is the outcome of lectures given at Jena on October 23 and 24, 1906, in connection with the Theological Vacation Course. These lectures grappled with certain problems which deal with the sharp oppositions that perplex our life to-day, and therefore seem to call very specially for elucidation. In the course of our inquiry we have sought to show as clearly as possible what these oppositions are, and have done our best to surmount them. The first lecture deals with the grounding of religion in the inner life. Our aim in this lecture is to find some mean between the older thought which favoured the cosmological approach to religion, and the newer which takes the human soul as its starting-point, but is so liable to the defects of vagueness and formlessness. Over against both these methods we proceed to elaborate a system which, while based on the inner life, still preserves a cosmic character. Idealism Vs. Materialism by Allen Michael Green Pdf

Myra is not your average woman; she never has been, not in millions of years. From a pampered princess, to a wilderness in the sun, to a prison in the desert, to a place in the heart of every person she happens to meet. This is the story of her sojourn on the Earth. This is her struggle for freedom and survival. The Apache Indians call her Child of the Sun. Ruben Hawken called her wife and lover and the mother of my children. She's a loving nurturing spirit with the power to influence for good. She heals, that's what she does ... Myra is more then victorious but not without setbacks and hardship and the patience of Job. You've got to love Myra, can't help yourself ... Don't you find that just a little suspicious? I'm a cynic so I certainly do ... But what do I know? I can't seem to get past that ridiculous Nutsoid sign.

Social Idealism and the Changing Theology by Gerald Birney Smith Pdf

"This volume contains the substance of the lectures which were delivered on the Nathaniel William Taylor foundation at the Spring conference of alumni of Yale Divinity School and ministers of Connecticut at New Haven in April, 1912. After they had been delivered, it seemed best to profit by the comments of those who heard them, and to gain the advantage of criticisms on the part of two or three friends who were good enough to read the manuscript. As a result, some minor changes have been made so as to avoid misinterpretation in one or two points; but the substance of the discussion remains practically unchanged. The final lecture of the course, which was too long to be read in its entirety, has been divided and slightly expanded in order to give space for a more detailed exposition." -- From the Preface

Idealism and Christian Theology by Joshua R. Farris,S. Mark Hamilton,James S. Spiegel Pdf

In the recent history of philosophy few works have appeared which favorably portray Idealism as a plausible philosophical view of the world. Considerably less has been written about Idealism as a viable framework for doing theology. While the most recent and significant works on Idealism, composed by the late John Foster (Case for Idealism and A World for Us: The Case for Phenomenological Idealism), have put this theory back on the philosophical map, no such attempt has been made to re-introduce Idealism to contemporary Christian theology. Idealism and Christian Theology is such a work, retrieving ideas and arguments from its most significant modern exponents (especially George Berkeley and Jonathan Edwards) in order to assess its value for present and future theological construction. As a piece of constructive philosophical-theology itself, this volume considers the explanatory power an Idealist ontology has for contemporary Christian theology.

Philosophical Idealism and Christian Belief by Alan P.F. Sell Pdf

There is now renewed and growing interest in post-Hegelian idealism, which was in its heyday at the end of the nineteenth century. This book is concerned with the religious and socio-ethical aspects in the writings of selected idealists. It addresses the question: was post-Hegelian philosophical idealism, in its friendliest guise, more a help than a hindrance to the expression of Christian convictions and the articulation of Christian doctrines? In pursuit of an answer, the author discusses the writings of seven British idealists who, if not in every case entirely doctrinally orthodox, were by no means unkindly disposed towards the Christian faith: T. H. Green, Edward Caird, J. R. Illingworth, Henry Jones, A. S. Pringle-Pattison, C. C. J. Webb, and A. E. Taylor. The book opens with an account of the formative intellectual influences upon the seven idealists and their consequent philosophical positions. There follow chapters on God, ethics and society, and Christian doctrine. The conclusion passes some positive and negative judgments upon post-Hegelian idealism in so far as it bears upon, or expresses, Christian belief. It also broaches the underlying question of the method of Christian thought vis ^ vis the general intellectual environment.

IDEALISM: Perfect Idealism Defined Within The Already But Not Yet by donald perry Pdf

This commentary on the book of Revelation is from a Reformed Orthodox Idealistic and Futuristic point of view. Previously I have wrestled with different Preterism and Redirectionalism views. However, once I fully understood salvation from the Reformed perspective the Lord saw fit to give me better understanding of the book of Revelation and Eschatology. Previously I was under the belief of OSAS Charles Stanley heresy. Concerning the eschatological perspective: We know that the Lord promised the seven churches in Revelation that He was coming to them, and that the faithful churches would remain. Thus His word was fulfilled. Yet, the resurrection change of 1 Cor. 15 for the living did not happen as far as they could tell. This means that the second coming is now in the present idealistically while we wait. Therefore, we sanctify ourselves and the church for when He shall appear. When He comes He will make an end of sin, our sin nature forever, and pain and death will end
