Christmas Market Nuremberg by Cristina Berna,Eric Thomsen Pdf

The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt is one of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany. The pre-Christmas fair on Nurembergs main market square can be traced back to the middle of the 16th century. Martin Luther promoted the Christ Child or Christkindl as a gift bringer and the date of giving gifts changed from December 6 to Christmas Eve. But now she has strong competition from Santa Claus as gift bringer. You men and women who were once children too, be children again, says the Christkind, as she greets her guests on Nurembergs Main Market Square to open the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt.

Hiroshige 53 Stations of the Tokaido by Cristina Berna,Eric Thomsen Pdf

This was the most popular print series ever made in Japan. It was even more popular series ever made in Japan. It was even more popular than the Hokusai series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, which had been recently published and which had influenced Hiroshige tremendously (ISBN 9783756844104). There were 53 post stations along this important road, apart from the start and terminus, in all 55 prints, which are all here in the order from Edo to Kyoto, as in the Hoeido edition (1833-34).

Hokusai 36 Views of Mount Fuji by Cristina Berna,Eric Thomsen Pdf

The beauty of art is necessary for happiness. In everyday life the arts give that extra dimension to life that makes it a great adventure. The art and design in buildings, city planning, gardens and parks, roads, bridges, everything that we use daily contributes to a happy and fulfilling life. Ugly buildings, sloppy design, poor quality workmanship, littering and defacing contributes to a miserable life. Why would you want a miserable life? Why would you want to impose a miserable life on others? Hokusai was not only a truly great artist. He also sent a message to common people, who could afford to buy his low cost prints. He conveyed the beauty of majesty, the mount Fujijama, in life. He conveyed the beauty of scenery, he said to people, look around you and see and enjoy the beauty of the scenery. He conveyed the beauty of a good human life , the craftmanship in making the timber, building the boat, fishing, growing tea, enjoying tea with the scenery. The 36 Views of Mt Fuji are religious prints. But different from the typical Christian religious motif the humans are not shown focused on the diety all the time, even if Mt Fuji is shown to have a pervading influence on their lives. The admiration and worship of Mt Fuji is often shown as incidental a single traveler of the group casting a glance at the majestic mountain while the others are busy with the many other things to do. In other words a very realistic rendition on how the divine is taking part in everyday life.

Christmas Market Montreux by Cristina Berna,Eric Thomsen Pdf

The main Montreux Christmas Market - Marché de Noël in French - is called the Lakeside Christmas Market. In this enchanting setting, extending for more than one kilometer along Lake Geneva's shoreline, you will find 170 stalls with crafts, tastings of local specialties, mulled wine and thousands of gift ideas. The size is as in a big German or Austrian city! Compared to other Christmas markets Montreux has more personal luxury items than traditional warm winter clothes. There does not appear to be an official Nativity as we have seen in the Catholic lands like Luxembourg, Austria and Bavaria. But also, the Nativity is not banned as in Strasbourg.

Keisai Eisen A Tōkaidō Board Game of Courtesans by Cristina Berna,Eric Thomsen Pdf

Introduction Keisai Eisen (1790 -1848) is especially known for his bijin-ga, pretty women, and landscapes. He is well known for his participation in the series 69 stations of the Nakasendō together with Hiroshige. The series A Tōkaidō Board Game of Courtesans, Fifty-three Pairings in the Yoshiwara use the Tōkaidō with landscape inserts as an excuse for showing courtesans and geisha, bijin-ga, to skirt the censorship. It was published 1821-1823. His bijin-ga are considered to be masterpieces of the "decadent" Bunsei Era (1818–1830). Most of them have impressive hairdo with many ornamental hairpins and combs. Their dress is extravagant with beautiful patterns and sublime embroideries. Their faces are elongated squares with long noses and small pouted painted mouths. Courtesans were desirable for their rich and splendid attire, not so much for their beauty and their names were actually like trademarks for a series of girls performing the name role with the brothel in question.
