Set the World on Fire by Vinita Hampton Wright Pdf

Only four women in the two thousand–year history of the Church—Thérèse of Lisieux, Teresa of Avila, Catherine of Siena, and Hildegard of Bingen—have the distinction of being named Doctors of the Church because of their impact on the faith. In Set the World on Fire, bestselling author, retreat leader, and spiritual director Vinita Hampton Wright offers a four-week personal retreat that immerses you in the dramatic lives, historical eras, and groundbreaking ideas of these formidable saints and invites you to develop the grit, humility, pragmatism, hope, joy, and vision these women possessed. Each week of your retreat begins with weekend reading and prayer to introduce the saint and the primary topic of the chapter, followed by five days of morning and evening prayer. Much of the text comes from the saint’s own writings. Scripture, reflection questions, and suggestions for action are designed to help you engage personally with the saint and her wisdom for living your faith. Each week offers a unique and in-depth experience of the saint and her unique gifts to the Church: Week one: St. Thérèse of Lisieux—the young Carmelite nun whose autobiography sent ripples across Christendom—will teach you to love God through her Little Way. Week two: St. Teresa of Avila—a Carmelite who spent years reforming her order and gave to the world a spiritual masterpiece called The Interior Castle—will instruct you in trusting your personal experience of God. Week three: St. Catherine of Siena—a Third-Order Dominican who poured out her life for people in need but also gave astute, sharp direction to Church leaders—will guide you to live every moment with courage through the love of truth. Week four: St. Hildegard of Bingen—a Benedictine abbess whose spiritual visions led to books, poetry, music, art, and early scientific discovery—will show you how to engage life with passion and creativity. Each woman’s experience of God, understanding of spirituality, and timeless wisdom gained her the title Doctor of the Church, which indicates that through her life, research, study, and writing, she has deepened and advanced the faith.

Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire by Jim Cymbala Pdf

The Times Are Urgent God Is on the Move Now Is the Moment to ... ask God to ignite his fire in your soul! Pastor Jim Cymbala believes that Jesus wants to renew his people-to call us back from spiritual dead ends, apathy, and lukewarm religion. Cymbala knows the difference firsthand. Thirty-five years ago his own church, the Brooklyn Tabernacle, was a struggling congregation of twenty. Then they began to pray ... God began to move ... street-hardened lives by the hundreds were changed by the love of Christ ... and today they are more than ten thousand strong. The story of what happened to this broken-down church in one of America's toughest neighborhoods points the way to new spiritual vitality in the church and in your own life. Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire shows what the Holy Spirit can do when believers get serious about prayer and the gospel. As this compelling book reveals, God moves in life-changing ways when we set aside our own agendas, take him at his word, and listen for his voice.

Don't Fire Your Church Members by Jonathan Leeman Pdf

Church membership is not just a status, it’s an office. Leaders shouldn’t fire members from the responsibilities given to them by Jesus—they should train them! When members are trained, the church grows in holiness and love, discipleship and mission. Complacency and nominalism are diminished. Jesus gives every church member an office in the church’s government: to assume final responsibility for guarding the what and the who of the gospel in the church and its ministry. Similarly, Jesus gives leaders to the church for equipping the members to do this church-building and mission-accomplishing work. In our day, the tasks of reinvigorating congregational authority and elder authority must work together. The vision of congregationalism pictured in this book offers an integrated view of the Christian life. Congregationalism is biblical, but biblical congregationalism just might look a little different than you expect. It is nothing less than Jesus’ authorization for living out his kingdom rule among a people on mission.

Closer to the Fire by Greg Musselman Pdf

We are often so far removed from persecution that it can be hard to relate to people who suffer for their faith. Journey with Greg Musselman, a former sports anchor, as he introduces you to believers he has interviewed from around the world--Christians with extraordinary stories to tell and amazing courage to impart. Whether in Ethiopia or Eritrea, North Korea or Nigeria, India or Iran, these believers have endured incredible pain and suffering, and live under constant threat and hardship. As they have stood boldly for Christ, they have discovered a vital truth: the closer you are to Jesus, the closer you are to the fires of persecution! Yet their tragic stories reveal a deeper hope and greater faith than most of us experience in our more protected lives--and they have much to teach us. Closer to the Fire helps Christians in free countries to identify with and learn from believers in the persecuted Church, as it explores the deeper truths of Scripture and provides probing questions to strengthen your personal walk. These courageous testimonies will inspire you to stand firm for the gospel, develop a greater trust in God, and draw closer to Jesus--and closer to the fire.

God on Fire by Fred Hartley Pdf

As believers, we are more alive in the middle of God’s white-hot presence than anywhere else on earth. The history of revival is often studied from man’s perspective; what we do to encounter God. God on Fire explores what God does to encounter us.

"Set the Church on Fire" by Martin Steward Pdf

In our present day and time the idea of "church" has become somewhat commercial and the purpose of the church is being blurred for many people. Church's are being built on every corner but the people are still outside of the church dying. However, before the devil would gain such ground the Lord makes a way of escape. What will it take for God to get us out to those that need help but will not come in the church building. Jesus said it this way; "They that are well have no need of a physician but those that are sick" (Luke 5:31). In other words, those that can admit they need help are the ones who get helped. Pastor Philip Smalls started with the right concept with the church growing, that power was not just for those that came in the church but also for those sitting outside the church. In the bible, Peter and John in the example of the gate called beautiful, the crippled man sat begging and as Peter and John were going into the church instead giving him giving the man money and going in, Peter prayed a miracle, which healed him. This man now walked in "with" Peter and John healed by God's POWER!!! (Acts 3:1-8) Where is God's power today for the church as a whole? In these earthen vessels there is a treasure but in order to get it out, the vase must be broken (2 Corinthians 4:7). This Pastor and wife had to be broken in order for the Lord to move in and through the church the way it was intended to be. God wants to Set The Church On Fire - The Holy Ghost Fire.

Burning Faith by Christopher B. Strain Pdf

In the 1990s, churches across the southeastern United States were targeted and set ablaze. These arsonists predominately targeted African American congregations and captured the attention of the media nationwide. Using oral histories, newspaper accounts, and governmental reports, Christopher Strain gives a chronological account of the series of church fires. Burning Faith considers the various forces at work, including government responses, civil rights groups, religious forces, and media coverage, in providing a thorough, comprehensive analysis of the events and their fallout. Arguing that these church fires symbolize the breakdown of communal bonds in the nation, Strain appeals for the revitalization of united Americans and the return to a sense of community. Combining scholarly sophistication with popular readability, Strain has produced one of the first histories of the last decade and demonstrates that the increasing fragmentation of community in America runs deeper than race relations or prejudice. A volume in the series Southern Dissent, edited by Stanley Harrold and Randall M. Miller
