Unhealthy Helping by Shawn Burn Pdf

"Helping and giving are good but some types are unintentionally unhelpful and unhealthy. Unhealthy Helping contains psychology-based explanations and solutions for people who help and give in ways that are harmful to themselves, others, or their relationships. Psychology professor and Psychology Today blogger Shawn Meghan Burn explores codependent and dysfunctional helping and giving relationships, how to tell the difference between unhealthy and healthy helping and giving, the social and psychological sources of codependence and unhealthy helping and giving, and how even the best intentions can go unexpectedly wrong (and what to do about it). Unhealthy Helping will help you find that helping and giving sweet spot where your help is truly helpful and your giving is healthy for others, your relationships, and for you."--Back cover.

Codependence in Women by Hanna Collins Pdf

Codependency is a phenomenon that has only been recognized for about 10 years in the medical world. Initially, the disorder was identified when researchers studying interpersonal relationships between alcoholic family members noticed similar patterns in the family of the addict. While the definition has been expanded to include individuals with chronic and mental illness, the most traditional use of the term codependency is still used to describe chemical-dependent partners as well as individuals living with or in a relationship with an addict. In this book "CODEPENDENCE IN WOMEN" you will understand the following: Codependency and Women Why do women care so much? Codependency in women begins from parenting to adult stage Eight signs that you have a codependent parent as a lady The gift of detachment - For women in a relationship with an alcoholic What is healthy helping and giving Six hallmarks of codependence When good intentions aren't enough Understanding codependent relationships How to help a friend who may be in an abusive relationship & MANY MORE. This book "CODEPENDENCE IN WOMEN" will enlighten you more about women. Women are historically regarded as nurturers and caretakers because of the propensity to define themselves through their relationships and to see themselves through an external lens. Do you Know That Codependency in Women Begins from Parenting to Adult Stage? Today, women seem more afraid than men (Women More Commitment Phobic Than Men) of romantic engagement. This survey result didn't surprise me. Women around the globe have become fiercely protective of their right to self-determination and lifestyle. I'm sure many of these women make this choice out of today's lifestyle desire alone.

A Catholic Woman's Guide to Recovery from Codependence by Anonim Pdf

God gave women the ability to create and nurture life. During pregnancy, a woman makes room in her mind, body, and heart for another person-one who requires love and support to survive. While these are noble qualities, giving too much can have negative effects. In A Catholic Woman's Guide to Recovery from Codependence, Brenda Daly, PhD, LCSW, explores the dark side of a woman's natural tendency to nurture and support: a soul sickness known as codependence. In caring for an alcoholic partner, for example, a woman may shift imperceptibly from caregiver to enabler. Just as her partner comes to depend on alcohol, so can a woman depend on supporting her sick partner, forming a codependent relationship that benefits no one. Daly writes that codependence often arises from a woman's low self-esteem-an obsession with external forces and a diminishment of the self. In her book, Daly uses scripture and meditations to help women escape the spiritual prison of codependence and turn their great capacity for love toward God-for to love God is to love oneself.

Girl Behind the Fence by Mozelle Martin Pdf

Over 40 million Americans, mostly women, struggle with codependency. In fact, 14.4 million of them were also diagnosed with depression. The lower their self-worth, the more they alienated themselves, the less self-awareness they had, and the more severe their depression was. As a natural continuance, the more severe their depression, the less independent they were, and therefore, the more codependent and debilitating their symptoms were. As you can see, it's truly a vicious circle. Codependent relationships can be between friends, romantic partners, or family members and often the relationship includes emotional, verbal, or physical abuse. Friends and family members of a codependent person do NOT want them to get well because... Take the SELF-INVENTORY inside and see if codependency is ruining your life. The bad news is that symptoms increase when ignored. The good news is that with proper support, you can regain control of your life and become your authentic and independent self.

Older codependent women often trap themselves into taking care of men even older than themselves. There are over forty million codependent women in the United States. They become codependents by virtue of seeking the approval of even older men who depend on them due to housekeeping and health care problems such as limited mobility. Such women are known as nurses with purses, and must often contribute some of their "purse" income to household support. What pushes women into these relationships? Are there any compensating benefits. Being a nurse with a purse is one of the multiple varieties of codependency that exist among women. Different types of codependent women exhibit similar symptoms that often require similar group treatment programs. Girl Behind the Fence: Codependency by Mozelle Martin, Ph.D. Pdf

Per Mental Health America, over 40 million Americans, mostly women, have actually been diagnosed or labeled as "codependent". In fact, a study using the Beck Depression Inventory and the Codependency Assessment Tool, revealed that 14.4 million (36%) of these Americans were also undergoing simultaneous treatment for depression. The study found that the more they answered "yes" to questions like those below, the more impaired they were by their codependency, and the more severe their depression. The next factors measured in this study were that of self-worth and authenticity. It was found that the lower their self-worth, the more they alienated themselves, the less self-awareness they had, and the more severe their depression was. As a natural continuance, the more severe the depression, the less independent they were, and therefore, the more codependent and debilitating their symptoms were. As you can see, it's truly a vicious circle. Codependent relationships can be between friends, romantic partners, or family members and often, the relationship includes emotional, verbal, or physical abuse. Friends and family members of a codependent person often recognize that something is wrong but will often not try to help because they would lose their "benefits" should the codependent person become healthy. Like any mental or emotional health issue, treatment requires time and effort, and a strong (but non-enabling and non-codependent) support system, including this book. The bad news is that the severity of codependency increases when the symptoms go ignored. The good news is that with the right help you can regain control of your life, set and maintain health boundaries, seek-out your authentic and independent self, reach goals, practice your passions, reclaim your career, and much more. That is why this book exists.

Women with Alcoholic Husbands by Ramona M. Asher Pdf

In this important study of women with alcoholic husbands, Asher vividly describes the process of coming to terms with a profound crisis in one's private life. From interviews with more than fifty women, all of whom were participants in family treatment programs, she assembles a composite picture of the experiences shared by wives of alcoholics. The testimony given by these women illustrates the steps they must take to regain control of their lives. The first step is figuring out what is happening and deciding what to do about it. Asher argues that the vogue of using the label "codependent" may actually hinder rather than facilitate emotional health. Led to think of themselves as addicted to their husbands' addictions the wives of alcoholics may be persuaded that their own problems can't be overcome. But, Asher shows, these women can take command of their lives. Originally published in 1992. Women Who Think Too Much by Jeanne Marie Pdf

This book is an intensely personal narrative about the insane dysfunctional thinking patterns and codependent relationships in the writer's own life. It is not just a for 'women' book. It is quite simply a for 'everyone' book and most of her first sales were to men."From the editor, Deanne Kohler."This is the book you'll want to buy for your teenagers, before they start dating. With a unique approach to codependency, the author shares her expertise and gives practical tips for successfully becoming codependent. Dark humor fuels this fearsome narrative and the author avoids using the overdone self-help formula altogether. Easier than steps, her 12-Slip program allows you to navigate the dysfunctional maze, maneuvering through the volatile actions, obsessive thoughts and intense feelings that a codependent relationship arouses. An accountable victim, her writing is vulnerable with an awareness that is empowering. The result is not at all preachy, condescending, alarmist or worst of all sappy. You will find yourself laughing out loud regarding scenarios that should make you cry, like the circling ladies in Kmart, the perverted mailman, etc. Written from personal experience and presented in the mood of an honest chat with a trusted girlfriend, this unique perspective on love gone awry is as entertaining as it is enlightening. The author has a very sharp sense of humor and she lets it fly without losing the gravity of her subject. Terrifying examples shine a revealing light on the painful truths of codependency and after drawing you in to that world, the narrative smacks you with the reality meter, turning your preconceived notions of the author's 12-Slip program upside down."

Prodependence by Robert Weiss Pdf

"Prodependence," a new psychological term created by Robert Weiss to describe healthy interdependence in the modern world, turns this around. Rather that preaching detachment and distance over continued bonding and assistance, as so many therapists, self-help books, and 12-step groups currently do, prodependence celebrates the human need for and pursuit of intimate connection, viewing this as a positive force for change. Simply stated, prodependence occurs when attachment relationships are mutually beneficial--with one person's strengths filling in the weak points of the other, and vice versa. And this can occur even when an addiction is present
