Colossians Book II: Chapters 1:16-3:8 by Randy Green Pdf

The "Heavenly Citizens" series serves as a tool to help the Christian understand not only what the Bible teaches us, but also how to study the Bible. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching him how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so he can feed himself. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity. "Colossians" is the seventeenth volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. The Apostle Paul begins this letter with a greeting from God the Father. It is written to the Church of Colosse, located on the eastern border of the Roman province of Asia (modern Turkey). Colosse had once been the major city of eastern Roman Asia. But when Rome took over, the trade route through Colosse was moved to Laodicea, and Colosse quickly became a has-been hick town of little consequence. Nonetheless, God doesn't despise small things, no matter how small they may be; so He sent the Gospel there and a church was established. The landscape and culture of Roman Asia in Bible times was pervaded with the "mystery religions," of which "Gnosticism" was one. To the Gnostics God could not have a human son because... Well, that is a long story, one which is to be found inside this seventeenth volume of our "Heavenly Citizens" series. So come inside and read all about it! Unlike the churches in Galatia and the Church of Corinth, the Church of Colosse was not steeped in heresy. It was a small and fledgling church at the time of this letter. The believers were growing in the Lord, but they needed help from the outside, if they were to grow any further in the Word of God. That had to do with inside concerns for this immature church. Other spiritual dangers from outside also threatened the church. This too is a long story, so we invite you to come inside and read all about it as well. Microwave Bible might be quick, but it never can nourish a growing boy into a spiritual man of God. So for a thorough understanding of these issues, we invite you to come inside and join the Bible class with us. We plan to delve into each and every detail and get to the bottom of it. After all, we do want our church today to be spiritually vibrant and fecund, don't we? What better way to accomplish this, than to enjoy a thorough study of the Apostle Paul's "Letter to the Colossians." The approach for "Colossians," and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series, is to teach the student the meaning of Scripture. We also teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. We do this in two ways: we provide a few rules by which to govern our Bible study, and we demonstrate by example how to study the Bible. Experience is an outstanding teacher. In our books we practice the rules for Bible study. By walking through the Bible with us, the reader experiences firsthand what our method of study is like. We believe the student will come out of our studies with both an understanding of the Bible and the ability to truthfully understand the Bible on his/her own. The path lies before you. Walk through the gate and join the journey with us! And may the blessings of the Lord Jesus Christ be yours in abundance.

Please do not be intimidated by the volume of Scripture references contained in this manual. On the other hand, the Bible scholar or seminary student may desire to research many of the Scripture references from the original languages of the Bible. No matter how proficient you are in using Scripture, this manual encourages you to rely on the Word of God to discover God’s sufficiency for every aspect of your life.

Catholics Go by the Bible by Eugene Hausmann Pdf

Catholics Go By the Bible highlights the four key theological issues that tend to divide Catholics and Protestants and provides key Bible verses that support the Catholic positions. This book will surprise Catholics as well as Protestants and offer both groups data for discussion. It provides a great resource for candidates in the Catholic Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). It answers questions like: why isn't faith alone sufficient? why isn't the Bible alone sufficient? why do Catholics have more Bible books than Protestants? where do Catholics get the "Hail Mary"? where do Catholics get so many sacraments? where do Catholics get purgatory from? where do Catholics get the pope from? which Bible is the real Bible? and many more. "Incredibly clear explanation of the Biblical background for many teachings of the Catholic Church. As a convert to Catholicism, this book answered many questions regarding differences in the Protestant view vs. the Catholic view on several points. I especially liked Section 2, 'Faith and works ( as opposed to Faith alone)' and Section 4, 'Scripture and Tradition (as opposed to the Bible alone).' If I could have read this book early in my formation, my struggle for answers would have been easier. Thank you, Deacon Gene for your awesome work." --Judy Cote A former candidate in the RCIA and current participant in Catholic Adult Faith Formation

William of Ockham: A Short Discourse on Tyrannical Government by William (of Ockham) Pdf

William of Ockham (c. 1285-c. 1347) was the most eminent and influential theologian and philosopher of his day, a giant in the history of political thought. He was a Franciscan friar who came to believe that the Avignonese papacy of John XXII had set out to destroy the religious ideal on which the Franciscan order was based: the complete poverty of Christ and the apostles. This is the first complete text by Ockham to be published in English. The Short Discourse is a passionate but compelling statement of Ockham's position on the most fundamental political problem of the medieval period: the relationship of supreme spiritual authority, as represented by the pope, to the autonomous secular authority claimed by the medieval empire and the emerging nation-states of Europe. Professor McGrade's introduction, and the notes on the translation make the volume wholly accessible to a modern readership, while a full bibliography and chronology are included as further aids to the reader.
