Combat Anesthesia by United States Government US Army Pdf

This book focuses on anesthesia care during the 24 hours following battle wounds. It is written by British and American physicians who began this collaboration while providing acute care to injured Soldiers of both countries at Camp Bastion and Fort Leatherneck in the Helmand province of Afghanistan. These authors, having deployed throughout Afghanistan and Iraq, address the ways in which care was delivered by U.S. and British trauma teams working together and sharing their competence. This is a story of how these expert physicians organized care and improved in-hospital patient outcomes. The principles presented in this book are also relevant to trauma care in non-military hospitals in the United States, Britain, and beyond.

Military Advanced Regional Anesthesia and Analgesia Handbook by Chester Buckenmaier,Michael Kent,Jason Brookman,Edward Mariano,Patrick Tighe,David Edwards Pdf

A longtime standard for military healthcare personnel, the second edition of Military Advanced Regional Anesthesia and Analgesia Handbook (MARAA) has been thoroughly revised and updated. Although the MARAA handbook initially gained its reputation as a useful resource for managing pain associated with battlefield trauma, its beautifully illustrated step-by-step guidance provides pertinent and practical guidance for managing vital acute pain services in all civilian and military clinical settings. Opening chapters review equipment, local anesthesia and additives, and physics of ultrasound and nerve stimulation. Much of the book is devoted to step-by-step guidance on performing various regional anesthesia nerve blocks organized by pertinent neuroanatomy, use of nerve stimulation, and use of ultrasound. The concluding group of chapters discusses organization of the acute pain service and staff, a review of multidisciplinary care, basics of pediatric regional anesthesia, first-aid acupuncture, and more.

Anesthesia Outside the Operating Room by Richard D. Urman,Wendy L. Gross,Beverly K. Philip Pdf

Anesthesia Outside of the Operating Room is a comprehensive, up-to-date textbook that covers all aspects of anesthesia care in OOR settings, from financial considerations to anesthetic techniques to quality assurance. With increasing numbers of procedures such as cardiac catheterization and imaging taking place outside of the main OR, anesthesia providers as well as non-anesthesia members of the patient care team will find this book critical to their understanding of the principles of anesthesia care in unique settings which may have limited physical resources. The book includes chapters on patient monitoring techniques, pre-procedure evaluation and post-procedure care, and procedural sedation performed by non-anesthesia providers. Its authors address problems of anesthesia that have unique answers in OOR settings, such as patient transport and cardiac arrest, and discuss technological progress and considerations for the future. The text also covers surgical procedures and anesthetic considerations by procedure location, such as radiology, infertility clinics, field and military environments, and pediatric settings, among many others Select guidelines from the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) are provided as well. Edited by the senior faculty from Harvard Medical School and with contributions from other academic institutions, Anesthesia Outside of the Operating Room provides a unique and convenient compendium of expertise and experience.

The Use of Ether as an Anesthetic at the Battle of the Wilderness in the Civil War (Expanded, Annotated) by Dr. William T. G. Morton Pdf

At the Battle of the Wilderness, General Ulysses Grant was interrupted in conversation with an aide to request use of an ambulance for a civilian doctor to visit the field hospitals. Grant refused repeatedly until he was told that the doctor was William Thomas Green Morton, the dentist who first demonstrated the use of ether. Grant said, "You are right, Doctor, he has done more for the soldier than any one else, soldier or civilian, for he has taught you all to banish pain. Let him have the ambulance and anything else he wants." In the autumn of 1862, Morton joined the Army of the Potomac as a volunteer surgeon, and applied ether to more than two thousand wounded soldiers during the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and the Wilderness. Here is Morton's paper on the use of ether on the battlefield. For the first time, this long-out-of-print book is available as an affordable, well-formatted book for e-readers and smartphones.
