Time Based Competition. The Key Driver of Global Market Performance by Timothy Mwangi Nduru Pdf

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, course: MSC supply Chain Management, language: English, abstract: Competition is a key driver of global market performance. For many decades’ businesses have been excelling based on the strategy adopted by the management. Notably, the wrong choice of strategy is likely to derail the firm from achieving its potential. This paper discusses one of the main business strategies that has been warmly embraced in the last decade. Time-based competition has been a key driver of competition in the global market since 1990. It has discussed the main basis of time competition which includes; Product Development and Introduction Time, Material Lead Time, Delivery Time and Throughput Time. Notably, all these time bases for competition affects the global market performance of an organization in different ways. Equally, the several measures needed to effect these measures fully have discussed in details. However, in determining the effectiveness of the time-based competition as a strategy, the management has to asses several measures. Such measures include profitability, growth in market share, customer’s satisfaction, increased productivity and sales. Throughout the paper, it is evident that time-based competition is a crucial driver of global market performance as opposed to quality and cost-based competition which are currently considered as enablers in the business environment. Therefore, time-based competition should be fully embraced by light-minded managers that seek to remain relevant in the competitive global market.

Global Competitive Strategy by Daniel F. Spulber Pdf

Globalization has fundamentally changed the game of business. Strategic frameworks developed for the analysis of purely domestic business necessarily fall short in the international business context. Managers and business students require alternative approaches to understand and cope with these far-reaching changes. We must learn to think globally in order to succeed. Global Competitive Strategy shows how we can do this by providing a unique set of strategic tools for international business. Such tools include the 'star analysis' that allows strategy makers to integrate geographic information with market information about the global business environment. Also introduced is the 'global value connection' that shows managers how to account for the gains from trade and the costs of trade. Aimed at MBA students taking courses in international strategy, consultants and practising managers with responsibility for strategic development, this 2007 book offers a comprehensive strategic framework for gaining competitive advantage in the global marketplace.

Changes in the dynamics of economic activities since the last decades of the 20th century have yielded major changes in the composition of industries and the division of labor and production across different regions of the world. Despite these shifts in the global economy, some industries have remained competitive even without relocating their operations overseas. Industries and Global Competition examines how and why the specificities of certain industries and firms determined their choice of location and competitiveness. This volume identifies the major drivers of this process and explains why some firms and industries moved to other parts of world while others did not. Relocation was not the sole determinant of the success or failure of firms and industries. Indeed some were able to reinvent themselves at their original location and build new competitive advantages. The path that each industry or firm took varied. This book argues that the specific characteristics of each industry defined the conditions of competitiveness and provide a wide range of cases as illustrations. Aimed at scholars, researchers and acadmeics in the fields of business history, international business and related disciplines Industries and Global Competition exmaines the unique questions; How and why did the specificities of certain industries and firms determine their choice of location and competitiveness? Global Declining Competition by Mr.Federico J Diez,Jiayue Fan,Carolina Villegas-Sánchez Pdf

Using a new firm-level dataset on private and listed firms from 20 countries, we document five stylized facts on market power in global markets. First, competition has declined around the world, measured as a moderate increase in average firm markups during 2000- 2015. Second, the markup increase is driven by already high-markup firms (top decile of the markup distribution) that charge increasing markups. Third, markups increased mostly among advanced economies but not in emerging markets. Fourth, there is a non-monotonic relation between firm size and markups that is first decreasing and then increasing. Finally, the increase is mostly driven by increases within incumbents and also by market share reallocation towards high-markup entrants.

Global Business by Riad A. Ajami,G. Jason Goddard Pdf

Globalization has been under extreme pressure in the wake of the financial crisis. Multinational firms are weighing the costs and benefits of international scale and scope, and are increasingly under pressure to hire local, to source local, and to pay taxes domestically. At the same time global competitive pressures have intensified. This book reviews international business practices from the multinational firm perspective, and provides pathways forward concerning competitiveness and sustainability in global markets. What sets this book apart from others is that the benefits and pitfalls of globalization are addressed. Chapter coverage focuses on the functional areas of the business and how they are impacted by international expansion. Practical case studies supplement chapter coverage and highlight both positive and negative developments in the global business arena. Readers should expect to be challenged on what will be the limits of the multinational firm in the future, and how multinational firms can continue to prosper while at the same time adhere to sustainable business initiatives. Equally useful to both undergraduate and graduate students of international business as well as professional development programs, Global Business: Competitiveness and Sustainability provides a necessary tonic for dealing with today’s troubled seas of globalization.
