2018 World Cup bid by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Culture, Media and Sport Committee Pdf

In this report the Culture, Media and Sport Committee says it was appalled by allegations - made in evidence to the Committee - about the conduct of members of the FIFA Executive Committee during the 2018 World Cup Bid process. The Committee says the allegations merit a full, urgent and independent investigation. FIFA is urged to conduct a thorough review of the governance of its bid processes, modelled on the steps the International Olympic Committee took after allegations of bribery and corruption in Salt Lake City's bid to host the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. The FA should also conduct a review of its 2018 bid,: England's bid team appears to have lacked a number of the components of a successful bid. The FA should review its longer term strategy for engaging with FIFA and other international football authorities in order to increase its influence, including with regard to governance reform. The Government should also review its advice and its own actions on bidding for international sporting events. In particular, it should consider its early announcement of the bid and whether sufficient attention was given to evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the England bid.

Intellectual Property Rights in China by Gordon C.K Cheung Pdf

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) infringement is so rampant in China that counterfeit goods - from general household merchandise, garments and media consumables to specialist products including pharmaceutical products and super computer chips - can be found in roadside stalls, markets, shops, department stores and even laboratory of leading universities. If allowed to continue these infringements may further engender a socially accepted culture of ‘fakeness’ that may seriously hamper innovation and economic progress. Gordon C. K. Cheung uses the case of intellectual property rights (IPR) to examine how and to what extent market forces and knowledge development affect the relationships of China and the world, especially the United States. Including detailed original statistics and data collected from Chinese provinces and cities and in-depth interviews with legal experts and policy makers, this book gives a unique insight into the opportunities and challenges that China faces as it increasingly becomes part of the global society. Rugby World Cups - 2003 and 2015 by Paul Tait Pdf

History was made on November 22 2003 - England was crowned the World Champion. Everything was ready for rugby to explode in England, for the national team to kick-on, for the level of the domestic game to continue growing and for the sport to truly become prominent nationwide. It did not eventuate. England lost far too many matches and the Aviva Premiership does not match the French Top 14. The result for Rugby World Cup 2015 is a match schedule allocating more games to Wales than to the north of England. Understanding how this came about and also how and why Wales secured matches is an important part of the puzzle and carries substantial implications for future Rugby World Cups. Local and global issues including decision making, rival sports and nationalized players are all tackled in an analysis that seeks to offer realistic and viable solutions for the benefit of English and global rugby.

Global Perspectives on Football in Africa by Susann Baller,Giorgio Miescher,Ciraj Rassool Pdf

Football, in many ways, is a visual endeavour. From the visual experience within the stadium itself to worldwide media representations, from advertisements to football art and artefacts: football is much about seeing and being seen, about watching, making visual and being visualised. The FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa has turned into a perfect example of the visual dimensions of football. Stadiums have been built and marketed as tourist attractions, mass media and internet platforms are advertising South African cities and venues, logos and emblems are displayed and celebrated, exhibitions are organised in museums world-wide. This book explores the social, cultural and political role of football in Africa by focusing on the issue of its visibility and invisibility. The contributions consider the history and present of football in different parts of Africa. They examine historical and recent pictures and images of football and football players, as well as places and spaces of their production and perception. They analyse the visual dimensions expressed in sports infrastructure, football media-scapes, and in expressive and material arts. This book thus contributes to the growing interest in football in Africa by exploring a new field of research into sports. This book was previously published as a special issue of Soccer and Society.
