Computing with Words in Information/Intelligent Systems 1 by Lotfi A. Zadeh Pdf

These two volumes consIstmg of Foundations and Applications provide the current status of theoretical and empirical developments in "computing with words". In philosophy, the twentieth century is said to be the century of language. This is mainly due to Wittgenstein who said: "The meaning of a word is its use in the language game". "The concept game is a concept with blurred edges". In the first phrase, "the language game" implies the everyday human activity with language, and in the latter, "game" simply implies an ordinary word. Thus, Wittgenstein precisely stated that a word is fuzzy in real life. Unfortunately this idea about a word was not accepted in the conventional science. We had to wait for Zadeh's fuzzy sets theory. Remembering Wittgenstein's statement, we should consider, on the one hand, the concept of "computing with words" from a philosophical point of view. It deeply relates to the everyday use of a word in which the meaning of a word is fuzzy in its nature.

Computing with Words by Paul P. Wang Pdf

Fuzzy logic refers to a computer's ability to make decisions involving "grey" or "fuzzy" areas. As linguistics contains numerous "grey" areas, computing with words through the use of fuzzy logic is an extremely hot topic in database and Internet research. This book explores the state of the art in linguistic computation, discussing how current research findings are extending the application of fuzzy logic beyond control engineering and intelligent systems into the use of language on a computer. Fuzzy logic pioneer, Dr. Lofti Zadeh, provides the introduction for this thought-provoking work.

Computing with Words in Information/Intelligent Systems 2 by Lotfi Asker Zadeh Pdf

The volume is the first one in the world literature which is a comprehensive, up to date account on computing with words, a new direction in broadly perceived intelligent systems, proposed and advocated by Professor Zadeh, the founder of fuzzy sets theory and fuzzy logic. Computing with words may form a basis of a computational theory of perception inspired by a remarkable human ability to perform a wide variety of tasks on the basis of vague and imprecise information expressed in natural language. In Part 2, applications in a wide array of fields are presented which use the paradigm of computing with words, exemplified by reasoning, data analysis, data mining, machine learning, risk analyses, reliability and quality control, decision making, optimization and control, databases, medical diagnosis, business analyses, traffic management, power system planning, military applications, etc.

Intelligent Systems and Soft Computing by Behnam Azvine,Nader Azarmi,Detlef D. Nauck Pdf

Artificial intelligence has, traditionally focused on solving human-centered problems like natural language processing or common-sense reasoning. On the other hand, for a while now soft computing has been applied successfully in areas like pattern recognition, clustering, or automatic control. The papers in this book explore the possibility of bringing these two areas together. This book is unique in the way it concentrates on building intelligent software systems by combining methods from diverse disciplines, such as fuzzy set theory, neuroscience, agent technology, knowledge discovery, and symbolic artificial intelligence. The first part of the book focuses on foundational aspects and future directions; the second part provides the reader with an overview of recently developed software tools for building flexible intelligent systems; the final section studies developed applications in various fields.

Technologies for Constructing Intelligent Systems 1 by Bernadette Bouchon-Meunier,Julio Gutierrez-Rios,Luis Magdalena,Ronald R. Yager Pdf

Intelligent systems enhance the capacities made available by the internet and other computer-based technologies. This book deals with the theory behind the solutions to difficult problems in the construction of intelligent systems. Particular attention is paid to situations in which the available information and data may be imprecise, uncertain, incomplete or of linguistic nature. Various methodologies for these cases are discussed, among which are probabilistic, possibilistic, fuzzy, logical, evidential and network-based frameworks. One purpose of the book is to consider how these methods can be used cooperatively. Topics included in the book include fundamental issues in uncertainty, the rapidly emerging discipline of information aggregation, neural networks, bayesian networks and other network methods, as well as logic-based systems.

Computing with Words by Lotfi A. Zadeh Pdf

In essence, Computing with Words (CWW) is a system of computation in which the objects of computation are predominantly words, phrases and propositions drawn from a natural language. CWW is based on fuzzy logic. In science there is a deep-seated tradition of according much more respect to numbers than to words. In a fundamental way, CWW is a challenge to this tradition. What is not widely recognized is that, today, words are used in place of numbers in a wide variety of applications ranging from digital cameras and household appliances to fraud detection systems, biomedical instrumentation and subway trains. CWW offers a unique capability—the capability to precisiate natural language. Unprecisiated (raw) natural language cannot be computed with. A key concept which underlies precisiation of meaning is that of the meaning postulate: A proposition, p, is a restriction on the values which a variable, X—a variable which is implicit in p—is allowed to take. CWW has an important ramification for mathematics. Addition of the formalism of CWW to mathematics empowers mathematics to construct mathematical solutions of computational problems which are stated in a natural language. Traditional mathematics does not have this capability.

In recent years rough set theory has attracted the attention of many researchers and practitioners all over the world, who have contributed essentially to its development and applications. Weareobservingagrowingresearchinterestinthefoundationsofroughsets, including the various logical, mathematical and philosophical aspects of rough sets. Some relationships have already been established between rough sets and other approaches, and also with a wide range of hybrid systems. As a result, rough sets are linked with decision system modeling and analysis of complex systems, fuzzy sets, neural networks, evolutionary computing, data mining and knowledge discovery, pattern recognition, machine learning, and approximate reasoning. In particular, rough sets are used in probabilistic reasoning, granular computing (including information granule calculi based on rough mereology), intelligent control, intelligent agent modeling, identi?cation of autonomous s- tems, and process speci?cation. Fuzzy Logic in Intelligent System Design by Patricia Melin,Oscar Castillo,Janusz Kacprzyk,Marek Reformat,William Melek Pdf

This book describes recent advances in the use of fuzzy logic for the design of hybrid intelligent systems based on nature-inspired optimization and their applications in areas such as intelligent control and robotics, pattern recognition, medical diagnosis, time series prediction and optimization of complex problems. Based on papers presented at the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society Annual Conference (NAFIPS 2017), held in Cancun, Mexico from 16 to 18 October 2017, the book is divided into nine main parts, the first of which first addresses theoretical aspects, and proposes new concepts and algorithms based on type-1 fuzzy systems. The second part consists of papers on new concepts and algorithms for type-2 fuzzy systems, and on applications of type-2 fuzzy systems in diverse areas, such as time series prediction and pattern recognition. In turn, the third part contains papers that present enhancements to meta-heuristics based on fuzzy logic techniques describing new nature-inspired optimization algorithms that use fuzzy dynamic adaptation of parameters. The fourth part presents emergent intelligent models, which range from quantum algorithms to cellular automata. The fifth part explores applications of fuzzy logic in diverse areas of medicine, such as the diagnosis of hypertension and heart diseases. The sixth part describes new computational intelligence algorithms and their applications in different areas of intelligent control, while the seventh examines the use of fuzzy logic in different mathematic models. The eight part deals with a diverse range of applications of fuzzy logic, ranging from environmental to autonomous navigation, while the ninth covers theoretical concepts of fuzzy models
