Health Spending in Japan by Mr.Masahiro Nozaki,Kenichiro Kashiwase,Ikuo Saito Pdf
Health spending has risen rapidly in Japan. We find two-thirds of the spending increase over 1990–2011 resulted from ageing, and the rest from excess cost growth. The spending level will rise further: ageing alone will raise it by 31⁄2 percentage points of GDP over 2010–30, and excess cost growth at the rate observed over 1990–2011 will lead to an additional increase of 2–3 percentage points of GDP. This will require a sizable increase in government transfers. Japan can introduce micro- and macro-reforms to contain health spending, and financing options should be designed to enhance equity.

The Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs of the U.S. Department of State presents the full text of the fact sheet entitled "Health Care in Japan," published June 26, 2000. The Economics of Tax and Social Security in Japan by Yoshimi Adachi Pdf
This book integrates the fundamentals of quantitative significance, using existing estimates of the elasticities of demand for tax, health insurance, and medical services in a static microsimulation model. It serves as a guide to the financial and social basics of health insurance and provides the reader with the intellectual groundwork indispensable for understanding the incorrect assumptions about the elasticities of demand and pattern of tax and health insurance. Most countries feel constant pressure because expenditure is increasing and resources are scarce. The topics addressed in this book including several frameworks leading to over-insurance, excess demand for medical care, and rapid expenditure growth in the medical care sector. Illustrated by carefully chosen examples and supported by extensive data analyses, this book is highly recommended to readers who seek an in-depth and up-to-date integrated overview of the ever-expanding theoretical and quantitative fields of containing costs, increasing funding for health services, or both.
"Health care costs too much and too many Americans go without it. While every other advanced industrial nation has virtually universal access to decent, affordable medical care, the United States has been stuck in massive conflict over how to provide this service to its citizens. Guaranteeing access to and controlling the costs of health care are extremely difficult and complex, fraught with risks and uncertainties. But can the nation afford not to address health care reform? Most Americans recognize that something must be done, yet agreeing on a cure for the nation's health care woes has proved to be exceedingly difficult." "Competing Solutions assesses the Clinton administration's proposals and several alternative plans. Joseph White examines the medical care systems of Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom, revealing both the variety and the fundamental similarities of these systems. He shows how these countries have organized their financing and delivery of health care to achieve universal access and comparable quality care at much lower costs. He uses their experiences to explore the proper direction for American reform and to identify interesting alternatives."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Aged-care Support in Japan by Olivia S. Mitchell,John Piggott,Satoshi Shimizutani Pdf
This study explores economic aspects of the market for long term care (LTC) with a special focus on Japan. First, we describe the LTC system in Japan as presently implemented, and we highlight some aspects of the program that are novel and potentially of interest to other countries seeking models for long-term care provision. Next, we discuss alternative projections of Japanese LTC utilization and costs. Finally, since Japan appears likely to experience important shortfalls in LTC in the future, we discuss whether such services might be more efficiently organized and financed under alternate forms of provision.
