Cooperative Cognitive Radio Networking by Bin Cao,Qinyu Zhang,Jon W. Mark Pdf

This SpringerBrief examines the active cooperation between users of Cooperative Cognitive Radio Networking (CCRN), exploring the system model, enabling techniques, and performance. The brief provides a systematic study on active cooperation between primary users and secondary users, i.e., (CCRN), followed by the discussions on research issues and challenges in designing spectrum-energy efficient CCRN. As an effort to shed light on the design of spectrum-energy efficient CCRN, they model the CCRN based on orthogonal modulation and orthogonally dual-polarized antenna (ODPA). The resource allocation issues are detailed with respect to both models, in terms of problem formulation, solution approach, and numerical results. Finally, the optimal communication strategies for both primary and secondary users to achieve spectrum-energy efficient CCRN are analyzed.

Security-aware Cooperation in Cognitive Radio Networks by Ning Zhang,Jon W. Mark Pdf

This brief investigates spectrum efficient and energy efficient strategies, known as cognitive radio networks (CRNs), to ensure secure cooperation between licensed and unlicensed users. The authors address issues of spectrum scarcity, spectrum sensing, transmission performance, trust-aware cooperation, and secure communications. Two security-aware cooperation based spectrum access schemes are presented. The first is a trust-aware cooperative framework for CRNs to improve the throughput or energy efficiency of licensed users and offer transmission opportunities to unlicensed users, taking into consideration the trustworthiness of unlicensed users. The second scheme is a cooperative framework to enhance secure communications of licensed users. An introduction to CRNs and literature survey enhance the discussion while numerical results are provided to demonstrate the viability of the proposed schemes. The brief is designed for researchers and professionals working with cognitive radio networks or interested in cooperation based access. Advanced-level students studying computer communication networks and communications engineering will also find this brief useful.

Cognitive Radio, Mobile Communications and Wireless Networks by Mubashir Husain Rehmani,Riadh Dhaou Pdf

This book provides an overview of the latest research and development of new technologies for cognitive radio, mobile communications, and wireless networks. The contributors discuss the research and requirement analysis and initial standardization work towards 5G cellular systems and the capacity problems it presents. They show how cognitive radio, with the capability to flexibly adapt its parameters, has been proposed as the enabling technology for unlicensed secondary users to dynamically access the licensed spectrum owned by legacy primary users on a negotiated or an opportunistic basis. They go on to show how cognitive radio is now perceived in a much broader paradigm that will contribute to solve the resource allocation problem that 5G requirements raise. The chapters represent hand-selected expanded papers from EAI sponsored and hosted conferences such as the 12th EAI International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Systems, the 11th EAI International Conference on Heterogeneous Networking for Quality, Reliability, Security and Robustness, the 10th International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks, the 8th International Conference on Mobile Multimedia Communications, and the EAI International Conference on Software Defined Wireless Networks and Cognitive Technologies for IoT.

Performance of Cooperative Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio Networks by Chilakala Sudhamani Pdf

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2020 in the subject Engineering - Communication Technology, grade: A, , language: English, abstract: Cooperative spectrum sensing technique is used to maximize the utilization of unused licensed spectrum. As the cooperation among the secondary users increases the detection performance increases, which increases the average channel throughput and energy efficiency but it depends on the number of cooperative secondary users, fusion rules, channel conditions and detection threshold. In this thesis average channel throughput, energy consumption and energy efficiency are estimated for variable number of secondary users and detection thresholds using hard fusion rules i.e. AND, OR and MAJORITY fusion rules. From the results it has been observed that the performance of AND fusion rule is better at low detection thresholds and for less number of secondary users. The performance of OR fusion rule is better at high detection thresholds and for large number of secondary users. The performance of MAJORITY fusion rule follows the performance of AND fusion rule at low detection thresholds and it follows the performance of OR fusion rule at high detection thresholds. However as the number of cooperative secondary users increases the energy required for spectrum sensing and reporting sensing results to the fusion center increases, which increases the energy consumption and reduces the energy efficiency. Therefore energy efficiency can be improved by maximizing the average channel throughput or by minimizing the energy consumption. To minimize the energy consumption in cooperative spectrum sensing, optimization technique has been proposed in this thesis and it is used for further improvement of energy efficiency. With this optimization technique, optimal number of cooperative secondary users are derived by maximizing the energy efficiency using AND and OR fusion rules but not with MAJORITY fusion rule. Because it is very difficult to estimate the optimal number of cooperative secondary users using MAJORITY fusion rule, so optimization of final decision threshold was proposed in the existing methods to maximize the energy efficiency using MAJORITY fusion rule. Therefore AND and OR fusion rules are used in this work to optimize the number of cooperative secondary users.

Cognitive Radio Mobile Ad Hoc Networks by F. Richard Yu Pdf

Cognitive radios (CR) technology is capable of sensing its surrounding environment and adapting its internal states by making corresponding changes in certain operating parameters. CR is envisaged to solve the problems of the limited available spectrum and the inefficiency in the spectrum usage. CR has been considered in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), which enable wireless devices to dynamically establish networks without necessarily using a fixed infrastructure. The changing spectrum environment and the importance of protecting the transmission of the licensed users of the spectrum mainly differentiate classical MANETs from CR-MANETs. The cognitive capability and re-configurability of CR-MANETs have opened up several areas of research which have been explored extensively and continue to attract research and development. The book will describe CR-MANETs concepts, intrinsic properties and research challenges of CR-MANETs. Distributed spectrum management functionalities, such as spectrum sensing and sharing, will be presented. The design, optimization and performance evaluation of security issues and upper layers in CR-MANETs, such as transport and application layers, will be investigated.
