Cooperative Device-to-Device Communication in Cognitive Radio Cellular Networks by Peng Li,Song Guo Pdf

This brief examines current research on cooperative device-to-device (D2D) communication as an enhanced offloading technology to improve the performance of cognitive radio cellular networks. By providing an extensive review of recent advances in D2D communication, the authors demonstrate that the quality of D2D links significantly affects offloading performance in cellular networks, which motivates the design of cooperative D2D communication. After presenting the architecture of cooperative D2D communication, the challenges of capacity maximization and energy efficiency are addressed by optimizing relay assignment, power control and resource allocation. Furthermore, cooperative D2D communication is enhanced by network coding technology, and then is extended for broadcast sessions. Along with detailed problem formulation and hardness analysis, fast algorithms are developed by exploiting problem-specific characteristics such that they can be applied in practice.

Cognitive Radio, Mobile Communications and Wireless Networks by Mubashir Husain Rehmani,Riadh Dhaou Pdf

This book provides an overview of the latest research and development of new technologies for cognitive radio, mobile communications, and wireless networks. The contributors discuss the research and requirement analysis and initial standardization work towards 5G cellular systems and the capacity problems it presents. They show how cognitive radio, with the capability to flexibly adapt its parameters, has been proposed as the enabling technology for unlicensed secondary users to dynamically access the licensed spectrum owned by legacy primary users on a negotiated or an opportunistic basis. They go on to show how cognitive radio is now perceived in a much broader paradigm that will contribute to solve the resource allocation problem that 5G requirements raise. The chapters represent hand-selected expanded papers from EAI sponsored and hosted conferences such as the 12th EAI International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Systems, the 11th EAI International Conference on Heterogeneous Networking for Quality, Reliability, Security and Robustness, the 10th International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks, the 8th International Conference on Mobile Multimedia Communications, and the EAI International Conference on Software Defined Wireless Networks and Cognitive Technologies for IoT.

Security-Aware Device-to-Device Communications Underlaying Cellular Networks by Aiqing Zhang,Liang Zhou,Lei Wang Pdf

The objective of this SpringerBrief is to present security architectures and incentive mechanisms to realize system availability for D2D communications. D2D communications enable devices to communicate directly, improving resource utilization, enhancing user’s throughput, extending battery lifetime, etc. However, due to the open nature of D2D communications, there are two substantial technical challenges when applied to large-scale applications, that is, security and availability which is demonstrated in this book. This SpringerBrief proposes a secure data sharing protocol, which merges the advantages of public key cryptography and symmetric encryption, to achieve data security in D2D communications. Furthermore, a joint framework involving both the physical and application layer security technologies is proposed for multimedia service over D2D communications thus the scalable security service can be achieved without changing the current communication framework. Additionally, as the system availability largely depends on the cooperation degree of the users, a graph-theory based cooperative content dissemination scheme is proposed to achieve maximal Quality of Experience (QoE) with fairness and efficiency. This SpringerBrief will be a valuable resource for advanced-level students and researchers who want to learn more about cellular networks.

Resource allocation is an important issue in wireless communication networks. In recent decades, cognitive radio-based networks have garnered increased attention and have been well studied to overcome the problem of spectrum scarcity in future wireless communications systems. Many new challenges in resource allocation appear in cognitive radio-based networks. This book focuses on effective resource allocation solutions in several important cognitive radio-based networks, including opportunistic spectrum access networks, cooperative sensing networks, cellular networks, high-speed vehicle networks, and smart grids. Cognitive radio networks are composed of cognitive, spectrum-agile devices capable of changing their configuration on the fly based on the spectral environment. This capability makes it possible to design flexible and dynamic spectrum access strategies with the purpose of opportunistically reusing portions of the spectrum temporarily vacated by licensed primary users. Different cognitive radio-based networks focus on different network resources, such as transmission slots, sensing nodes, transmission power, white space, and sensing channels. This book introduces several innovative resource allocation schemes for different cognitive radio-based networks according to their network characteristics: Opportunistic spectrum access networks - Introduces a probabilistic slot allocation scheme to effectively allocate the transmission slots to secondary users to maximize throughput Cooperative sensing networks - Introduces a new adaptive collaboration sensing scheme in which the resources of secondary users are effectively utilized to sense the channels for efficient acquisition of spectrum opportunities Cellular networks - Introduces a framework of cognitive radio-assisted cooperation for downlink transmissions to allocate transmission modes, relay stations, and transmission power/sub-channels to secondary users to maximize throughput High-speed vehicle networks - Introduces schemes to maximize the utilized TV white space through effective allocation of white space resources to secondary users Smart grids - Introduces effective sensing channel allocation strategies for acquiring enough available spectrum channels for communications between utility and electricity consumers.

Cooperative Communications and Networking by Y.-W. Peter Hong,Wan-Jen Huang,C.-C. Jay Kuo Pdf

Cooperative and relay communications have recently become the most widely explored topics in communications, whereby users cooperate in transmitting their messages to the destination, instead of conventional networks which operate independently and compete among each other for channel resources. As the field has progressed, cooperative communications have become a design concept rather than a specific transmission technology. This concept has revolutionized the design of wireless networks, allowing increased coverage, throughput, and transmission reliability even as conventional transmission techniques gradually reach their limits. Cooperative and relay technologies have also made their way toward next generation wireless standards, such as IEEE802.16 (WiMAX) or LTE, and have been incorporated into many modern wireless applications, such as cognitive radio and secret communications. Cooperative Communications and Networking: Technologies and System Design provides a systematic introduction to the fundamental concepts of cooperative communications and relays technology to enable engineers, researchers or graduate students to conduct advanced research and development in this area. Cooperative Communications and Networking: Technologies and System Design provides researchers, graduate students, and practical engineers with sufficient knowledge of both the background of cooperative communications and networking, and potential research directions.
