Correlation Equations by Aristarkh K. Mitropol skii Pdf

This book presents methods for computing correlation equations. All the topics treated hefe are eluci dated in terms of concrete examples, which have been chosen, for the most part, from the Held of analysis of the mechanical properties of steel, wood, and other materials. A necessary prerequisite for any study of correlation equations is so me knowledge of the moments of random variables. In the Appendix, there is provided a brief treatment of moments, as well as a discussion of the simplest methods of computing them. We have paid particular attention in this book to the techniques of computing correlation equations, and to the use of tables for alleviating the computationalload. The mathematical bases of the methods used in setting up correlation equations are expounded in the books cited at the end of this volume. A. M. December 1965 PIe ase note that the abbreviation 19 is used in this book to designate the logarithm to base ten, Note further that the comma has been retained as the decimal point in tabular material.

Boundary-layer Similar Solutions and Correlation Equations for Laminar Heat-transfer Distribution in Equilibrium Air at Velocities Up to 41,100 Feet Per Second by Nathaniel B. Cohen Pdf

Correlations of the transport property estimates of NASA TR R-50 are employed to determine locally similar solutions of the laminar boundary-layer equations for air in chemical equilibrium. Exact solutions for flat-plate flow, axisymmetric stagnation flow, and stagnation flow for yawed infinite cylinder are obtained, and a correlation formula for the heat-transfer distribution function for arbitrary favorable pressure gradient is determined. Extension to three-dimensional flows with small cross flow is briefly described.

Structural Equations with Latent Variables by Kenneth A. Bollen Pdf

Analysis of Ordinal Categorical Data Alan Agresti Statistical Science Now has its first coordinated manual of methods for analyzing ordered categorical data. This book discusses specialized models that, unlike standard methods underlying nominal categorical data, efficiently use the information on ordering. It begins with an introduction to basic descriptive and inferential methods for categorical data, and then gives thorough coverage of the most current developments, such as loglinear and logit models for ordinal data. Special emphasis is placed on interpretation and application of methods and contains an integrated comparison of the available strategies for analyzing ordinal data. This is a case study work with illuminating examples taken from across the wide spectrum of ordinal categorical applications. 1984 (0 471-89055-3) 287 pp. Regression Diagnostics Identifying Influential Data and Sources of Collinearity David A. Belsley, Edwin Kuh and Roy E. Welsch This book provides the practicing statistician and econometrician with new tools for assessing the quality and reliability of regression estimates. Diagnostic techniques are developed that aid in the systematic location of data points that are either unusual or inordinately influential; measure the presence and intensity of collinear relations among the regression data and help to identify the variables involved in each; and pinpoint the estimated coefficients that are potentially most adversely affected. The primary emphasis of these contributions is on diagnostics, but suggestions for remedial action are given and illustrated. 1980 (0 471-05856-4) 292 pp. Applied Regression Analysis Second Edition Norman Draper and Harry Smith Featuring a significant expansion of material reflecting recent advances, here is a complete and up-to-date introduction to the fundamentals of regression analysis, focusing on understanding the latest concepts and applications of these methods. The authors thoroughly explore the fitting and checking of both linear and nonlinear regression models, using small or large data sets and pocket or high-speed computing equipment. Features added to this Second Edition include the practical implications of linear regression; the Durbin-Watson test for serial correlation; families of transformations; inverse, ridge, latent root and robust regression; and nonlinear growth models. Includes many new exercises and worked examples. 1981 (0 471-02995-5) 709 pp.

Stochastic Partial Differential Equations, Second Edition by Pao-Liu Chow Pdf

Explore Theory and Techniques to Solve Physical, Biological, and Financial Problems Since the first edition was published, there has been a surge of interest in stochastic partial differential equations (PDEs) driven by the Lévy type of noise. Stochastic Partial Differential Equations, Second Edition incorporates these recent developments and improves the presentation of material. New to the Second Edition Two sections on the Lévy type of stochastic integrals and the related stochastic differential equations in finite dimensions Discussions of Poisson random fields and related stochastic integrals, the solution of a stochastic heat equation with Poisson noise, and mild solutions to linear and nonlinear parabolic equations with Poisson noises Two sections on linear and semilinear wave equations driven by the Poisson type of noises Treatment of the Poisson stochastic integral in a Hilbert space and mild solutions of stochastic evolutions with Poisson noises Revised proofs and new theorems, such as explosive solutions of stochastic reaction diffusion equations Additional applications of stochastic PDEs to population biology and finance Updated section on parabolic equations and related elliptic problems in Gauss–Sobolev spaces The book covers basic theory as well as computational and analytical techniques to solve physical, biological, and financial problems. It first presents classical concrete problems before proceeding to a unified theory of stochastic evolution equations and describing applications, such as turbulence in fluid dynamics, a spatial population growth model in a random environment, and a stochastic model in bond market theory. The author also explores the connection of stochastic PDEs to infinite-dimensional stochastic analysis.

The Ten Equations That Rule the World by David Sumpter Pdf

Is there a secret formula for getting rich? For going viral? For deciding how long to stick with your current job, Netflix series, or even relationship? This book is all about the equations that make our world go round. Ten of them, in fact. They are integral to everything from investment banking to betting companies and social media giants. And they can help you to increase your chance of success, guard against financial loss, live more healthfully, and see through scaremongering. They are known by only the privileged few - until now. With wit and clarity, mathematician David Sumpter shows that it isn't the technical details that make these formulas so successful. It is the way they allow mathematicians to view problems from a different angle - a way of seeing the world that anyone can learn. Empowering and illuminating, The Ten Equations shows how math really can change your life.
