Cries Unheard by George Halasz Pdf

Examination of the debate surrounding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Investigates the theory that many health workers fail to make a 'holistic' assessment of a child within a family and social context, leading many children with problematic behaviours to be misdiagnosed as having ADHD. Also analyses other contributing factors such as social and economic changes, parental depression and classroom management issues. Includes contributor notes and references. Echos Of Cries Unheard by Pattie Marsiglio Pdf

They Will Not Be Forgotten Sandy Hook elementary school tragedy is what inspired me to write this book. It's my dream and goal to bring back to life their memory and place it back into the hearts and minds of many. We as human beings share love, compassion, and sympathy toward others. Especially those who suffered in silence due to such senseless, violent crimes against innocent children and others. I wanted to reach out to them and let them know they are not alone. I to share their pain and grief alone with countless others. The only way I knew to reach out to them was with love, compassion, and sympathy. With those three components, words came more easily. I hope in my book my words eased your pain. In doing so, I have accomplished my dream. Rest in peace Sandy's Angels, you will not be forgotten.

Cries Unheard by Gitta Sereny Pdf

England's controversial #1 best-seller. What brings a child to kill another child? In 1968, at age eleven, Mary Bell was tried and convicted of murdering two small boys in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Gitta Sereny, who covered the sensational trial, never believed the characterization of Bell as the incarnation of evil, the bad seed personified. If we are ever to understand the pressures that lead children to commit serious crimes, Sereny felt, only those children, as adults, can enlighten us. Twenty-seven years after her conviction, Mary Bell agreed to talk to Sereny about her harrowing childhood, her terrible acts, her public trial, and her years of imprisonment-to talk about what was done to her and what she did, who she was and who she became. Nothing Bell says is intended as an excuse for her crimes. But her devastating story forces us to ponder society's responsibility for children at the breaking point, whether in Newcastle, Arkansas, or Oregon. A masterpiece of wisdom and sympathy, Gitta Sereny's wrenching portrait of a girl's damaged childhood and a woman's fight for moral regeneration urgently calls on us to hear the cries of all children at risk.

Saving Jenny by Vivian Percy Pdf

Normal turned to PTSD and a substance abuse nightmare for Jenny the instant a taxi struck her, catapulting her thirty feet across a busy New York City street. Jenny is one of the lucky ones to have survived the drug rehabilitation system, which routinely fails those at risk. Her story is multiplied across the US in the wrecked lives and torn-apart families of hundreds of thousands of Jennies. Saving Jenny is the story of a mother and daughter’s long painful journey from tragedy, through opioid addiction, toward healing. Its cautionary tale sheds light on drug dependency, sexual violation and exploitation, misdiagnosed psychological and physical injuries. It exposes a healthcare industry focused more on profits than care, which routinely fails those in its keeping. We see firsthand the abuse, negligence, malpractice, illegal and illicit activities going on in rehab facilities. We hear about the complicity of Big Pharma, insurance companies, and healthcare providers in these schemas. Beyond an exposé, this book offers practical and radical solutions to the countless individuals and families affected by opioid addiction and trauma. People need physical, psychological, social, and spiritual support to experience true healing.

A Name Unknown (Shadows Over England Book #1) by Roseanna M. White Pdf

Edwardian Romance and History Gains a Twist of Suspense Rosemary Gresham has no family beyond the band of former urchins that helped her survive as a girl in the mean streets of London. Grown now, they concentrate on stealing high-value items and have learned how to blend into upper-class society. But when Rosemary must determine whether a certain wealthy gentleman is loyal to Britain or to Germany, she is in for the challenge of a lifetime. How does one steal a family's history, their very name? Peter Holstein, given his family's German blood, writes his popular series of adventure novels under a pen name. With European politics boiling and his own neighbors suspicious of him, Peter debates whether it might be best to change his name for good. When Rosemary shows up at his door pretending to be a historian and offering to help him trace his family history, his question might be answered. But as the two work together and Rosemary sees his gracious reaction to his neighbors' scornful attacks, she wonders if her assignment is going down the wrong path. Is it too late to help him prove that he's more than his name?

The Godman and the Sea by Michael J. Thate Pdf

If scholars no longer necessarily find the essence and origins of what came to be known as Christianity in the personality of a historical figure known as Jesus of Nazareth, it nevertheless remains the case that the study of early Christianity is dominated by an assumption of the force of Jesus's personality on divergent communities. In The Godman and the Sea, Michael J. Thate shifts the terms of this study by focusing on the Gospel of Mark, which ends when Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome discover a few days after the crucifixion that Jesus's tomb has been opened but the corpse is not there. Unlike the other gospels, Mark does not include the resurrection, portraying instead loss, puzzlement, and despair in the face of the empty tomb. Reading Mark's Gospel as an exemplary text, Thate examines what he considers to be retellings of other traumatic experiences—the stories of Jesus's exorcising demons out of a man and into a herd of swine, his stilling of the storm, and his walking on the water. Drawing widely on a diverse set of resources that include the canon of western fiction, classical literature, the psychological study of trauma, phenomenological philosophy, the new materialism, psychoanalytic theory, poststructural philosophy, and Hebrew Bible scholarship, as well as the expected catalog of New Testament tools of biblical criticism in general and Markan scholarship in particular, The Godman and the Sea is an experimental reading of the Gospel of Mark and the social force of the sea within its traumatized world. More fundamentally, however, it attempts to position this reading as a story of trauma, ecstasy, and what has become through the ruins of past pain.

A Cry Unheard by James J. Lynch Pdf

It is one of the most perplexing paradoxes of modern life. As technology dramatically expands our ways of communicating, loneliness has become one of the leading causes of premature death in all technologically advanced nations. The medical toll is made heavier by powerful social forcesschool failure, family and communal disintegration, divorce, the loss of loved ones. And while loneliness, the lack of human companionship, the absence of face-to-face dialogue, and the disembodiment of human dialogue have all been linked to virtually every major diseasefrom cancer to Alzheimer's disease, from tuberculosis to mental illnessthe link is particularly marked in the case of heart disease, the nation's leading killer. Every year, millions die prematurely, lonely and brokenhearted, no longer able to communicate with their fellow human being. Drawing on a lifetime of his own medical research, Dr. James Lynch provides in A Cry Unheard a groundbreaking sequel to his best-selling The Broken Heart. In our modern-day world, writes Lynch, telephones talk, and radios talk, and computers talk, and televisions talk, yet no-body is there.Human speech, he asserts, has literally disappeared from its own biological homethe human heart. He outlines and explains recent medical and scientific discoveries about school failure, divorce, and living alone, and goes on to demonstrate how childhood experiences with toxic talkadults' use of language to hurt, control, and manipulate rather than to reach out and listencontribute to an unbearable type of loneliness that, in the end, breaks our hearts ten to forty years later. Hailed by many of our Nation's leading medical experts as a pioneer and visionary, as well as THE expert in affairs of the heart, Dr. Lynch predicts that communicative disease will be as major a health threat as communicable disease in the new millenium. His path-breaking researchfrom showing how greatly human touch affects the hearts of patients in intensive care units (as well as the hearts of animals in laboratory settings), to his discovery that during even the most ordinary conversations, blood pressure can rise far more than it does during maximal physical exerciseare but a few pieces of the fascinating health mosaic he assembles in this seminal work. With that rare combination of poet and scientist, he describes in moving terms the vascular see-saw of all human dialogue. Blood pressure rises when we speak to others, yet falls below baseline levels whenever we listen to others, relate to companion animals, or attend to the rest of the natural world. No wonder Lynch admonishes us that exercises to improve communicative health must be undertaken with the same seriousness and commitment as exercises on treadmills to improve physical health. Echoing time-honored Biblical truths and wisdom, he seeds this landmark book with two ominous observations: that loneliness is a lethal human poison, and that failure to act as our brother's keepers forces us into communicative exile and premature death. Ultimately, though, he concludes with optimism. Heartfelt dialogue, writes Lynch, can be, and indeed must be, the true elixir of modern life.

The German Trauma by Gitta Sereny Pdf

Gitta Sereny is one of the world's most respected journalists and historians. This book gathers together the best of her writing on Germany from over sixty years. It amounts to an extraordinary portrait of the country and its people, how they have come to terms with their Nazi past, both collectively and in specific instances - and how the burden of their guilt has altered the national identity. She writes about key individuals - Stangl, Speer - and the questions which their lives raise. Thepenetration and conviction of her writing throughout is startling and she constantly reminds us why it is important to consider the questions she addresses - war guilt, holocaust denial and the temptations of obedience.

MARY BELL by Katherine Smith Pdf

The case of Mary Bell shocked the nation in 1968. In the city of Newcastle, an eleven year-old girl was responsible for the death of two young boys who were not much more than toddlers. The method of death was strangulation (squeezing of the neck) and both tragic incidents took place on derelict land where massive slum housing clearances were under way. The girl responsible for the murders was Mary Flora Bell - a darkly angelic looking child who never seemed to show any sign of emotion. The case of Mary Bell, as it drifts further and further into the past, is like a nightmarish folk memory that refuses to ever completely fade. It is a strange and tragic story that will probably never lose its enduring and morbid fascination.
