Significant Cases in Juvenile Justice by Craig Hemmens,Benjamin Steiner,David Mueller Pdf

This text is one of three books in the Criminal Justice Case Briefs series, each of which provides a summary and analysis of leading cases in a particular area of criminal justice: criminal procedure law, corrections law, or juvenile law. Craig Hemmens is the lead author on all three books; there is a different set of coauthors on each book, all of whom are experts in their respective areas. Easily accessible to undergraduates, each volume has the same basic outline and format, which is neither exclusively "casebook" nor "textbook." The purely casebook approach is not always appropriate for undergraduates, whose primary focus is learning the law, not "how to think like a lawyer." Therefore, these books present briefs (or summaries) of the opinions, along with analyses and explanations, instead of the actual opinions themselves. This allows instructors to use the books as either supplements or as main, stand-alone texts. The volumes also include less background and extraneous material than most textbooks; the cases are presented in a context, with relevant commentary, which allows students to better understand the significance of the legal holdings, explains the Court's holdings, and places each case in context with the Court's other decisions. Criminal Justice Case Briefs: Significant Cases in Juvenile Justice is comprehensive in its treatment of juvenile law, covering all of the major cases in the area. It features a list of cases, in alphabetical order and grouped by topic; briefs of each case, arranged by topic; a short introduction to each topic, intended to put the cases into context and provide some unity; and an index.

The Death Penalty by Scott Vollum,Rolando V. del Carmen,Durant Frantzen,Claudia San Miguel,Kelly Cheeseman Pdf

The Death Penalty, Third Edition, brings together all the legal issues related to the death penalty and provides case briefs for the most important United States Supreme Court death penalty cases. No other book available brings together a discussion of the major constitutional issues surrounding the death penalty with a broad array of associated case briefs. The authors classify cases according to legal issues and provide a commentary on the various sub-topics, presenting legal materials in an easily understood form. Though the primary audiences of the book are undergraduates in criminal justice programs and practitioners in the corrections and justice systems, the book will also prove useful to anyone who has an interest in the death penalty, the criminal justice system, or the United States Constitution. Every chapter starts with commentaries regarding general case law in a sub-topic, such as aggravating and mitigating factors, followed by a chart of the cases briefed in the chapter, and then the case briefs. These case briefs acquaint the reader with Supreme Court cases by summarizing facts, issues, reasons, and holdings. The Death Penalty, Third Edition , is a succinct, trusted guide to the law of capital punishment in the United States.

Criminal Procedure by Larry E. Holtz Pdf

Criminal Procedure expert Larry E. Holtz, Esq., presents a new and innovative approach to the study of modern constitutional criminal procedure. In this comprehensive volume, the classical and current United States Supreme Court and federal circuit court decisions are presented and explored in a distinctive Question-Answer-Rationale format, through which Mr. Holtz removes the guesswork in, and tedious search for, "today's law". He also has noted those specific areas of state court departure, wherein many state courts, through the process of what is sometimes called "New Federalism", rely on their own constitutions to provide state citizens with added protection to their rights and liberties. This is an officer's, attorney's or law/criminal justice student's or professor's one-stop reference for the Laws of Arrest, Search and Seizure, Confession Law, and Eyewitness Identification.
