Total Knee Arthroplasty by Theofilos Karachalios Pdf

This book focuses on the current clinical practice, outcome and the future development of Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) in surgical settings. A major objective of this work is to address “What is the optimal design and fixation of the implants we use for knee arthroplasty reconstruction? What are the gold standards? and, Can we do better?”. In an attempt to throw light on these questions, the authors evaluate data from clinical studies and assess various factors which may influence the long term outcome of TKA. Many variables such as age, severity, implant design and surgical techniques for appropriate component placement and soft tissue balancing are explored in great detail by expert surgeons in the field. Total Knee Arthroplasty: Long Term Outcomes will be a useful resource for recently qualified surgeons in search of an introduction to this topic and for more experienced surgeons seeking an in-depth critical review of current practices in TKA.

Arthroplasty 2000 by N. Matsui,Y. Taneda,Y. Yoshida Pdf

Joint replacement surgery has seen remarkable progress and development in recent years both in prostheses and in surgical technique. A prime concern has been improved durability, for which a major factor is reduction of the polyethylene wear that leads to osteolysis. This book presents an update on the means by which the problems of wear and loosening are being addressed in total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Included are chapters on new surgical techniques for difficult cases, nonpolyethylene interfaces for THA, custom hip prostheses, and computer-assisted surgery. Arthroplasty 2000 also takes up current controversial issues such as posterior cruciate substitution versus retention in TKA. With contributions by eminent specialists in total joint replacement in Asia, Europe, and North America, this volume is a valuable reference for all orthopedic surgeons.

Total Knee Arthroplasty by Johan Bellemans,Michael D. Ries,Jan M.K. Victor Pdf

"Take away my knee pain and give me better motion". This is what the arthritic patient expects from a Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). By virtue of standardization of the TKA procedure, surgeons can nowadays solve the pain issue for the majority of the patients. Restoration of function is a goal of a different order and forms the scope of this book. The editors confronted today's leading knee surgeons with the limitations of current surgical techniques and technology. They challenged them to define new thresholds of functional capacity after Total Knee Arthroplasty. "A Guide to Get Better Performance in TKA" describes the cutting edge in surgical techniques, prosthetic design and achievement of excellent function for these patients.

New Developments in Knee Prosthesis Research by Janice Stewart Pdf

In this book, the complete development of an external intelligent knee prosthesis created by the Mechatronics Research Group (MRG) was presented. This project brought out several advances in the prosthetic field which the authors discuss in detail. The second chapter examines the use of finite element modeling for understanding knee prosthesis biomechanics, fundamental to answering clinical question in the field. Also looked at are the basic characteristics of knee prostheses that must be complied with in order to provide a safe and biomechanical performance to its users during walking. Other chapters present the main results from a project whose main focus was to evaluate the tibial inserts wear and to obtain the possibility to control the total knee prosthesis (TKPs) wear process; whether screening and decolonisation (S&D) is effective in reducing the rate of postoperative infection after elective knee joint arthroplasty and whether it's cost-effective; and finally, a review of the current literature, as well as some personal experiences, on assessing the reliability of patient specific instrument system in total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Reconstruction of the Knee Joint by S. Niwa,S. Yoshino,M. Kurosaka,Konsei Shino,Sumiki Yamamoto Pdf

More than 20 years have passed since the International Symposium on Total Knee Replacement was held in London in 1974. Prosthetic design and operative technique have been greatly improved since then, and there is now an accepted standard concept of total knee arthroplasty. Thirteen years after the London symposium, another international symposium on total knee replacement was held, this time in Nagoya, Japan, in 1987. Its ambitious objective was to push forward the frontiers of continuous investigation and improve ment of total knee replacement. The fruits of the individual efforts presented at the Nagoya symposium were published in a volume of proceedings entitled Total Knee Replacement. In the years since 1987, further investigations have been conducted in various parts of the world regarding prosthetic design, fixation, long-term radiological follow-up, biomechanical evaluation, and biomaterials research. In knee ligament reconstruc tion, rapid progress has been made in the past five years in clinical practice and fundamental research by means of arthroscopic surgery and tissue transplantation, and we have come close to establishing a standard treatment. Under these circumstances, an international symposium on knee joint reconstruc tion was planned for 1994, again to be held in Nagoya, to provide ample opportunity for exchanging information and sharing clinical experience from around the world.
