The Dark Night of the Soul by Gerald G. May Pdf

Now in paperback: a distinguished psychiatrist, spiritual counsellor and bestselling author shows how the dark sides of the spiritual life are a vital ingredient in deep, authentic, healthy spirituality. Gerald G. May, MD, one of the great spiritual teachers and writers of our time, argues that the dark 'shadow' side of the true spiritual life has been trivialised and neglected to our serious detriment. Superficial and naively upbeat spirituality does not heal and enrich the soul. Nor does the other tendency to relegate deep spiritual growth to only mystics and saints. Only the honest, sometimes difficult encounters with what Christian spirituality has called and described in helpful detail as 'the dark night of the soul' can lead to true spiritual wholeness. May emphasises that the dark night is not necessarily a time of suffering and near despair, but a time of deep transition, a search for new orientation when things are clouded and full of mystery. The dark gives depth, dimension and fullness to the spiritual life.

Revival and Awakenings by Riaan Engelbrecht Pdf

Revival is back in the spotlight with what is happening in America at the start of 2023. This book explores what is true revival and a spiritual awakening. Prophetically, it delves into what God has been saying for a long time, which is that the Lord will sweep the earth with revival in the end times which will ignite many followers with His holy fire. What will this revival look like? This is the big question, and one would rather say it will not be a singular event, but a sequence of Godly movements across the globe that will be infectious, contagious and real. In an awakening, the Holy Spirit gives unbelieving people - who are dead in their trespasses and sins -a new awareness of their needs. A revival is connected to the people of God and it is when those who are in churches - those who are professing believers - are ministered to by the Holy Spirit in such a way that they are renewed in their devotion to the Lord. The time is ripe for the one final great harvest, yet this calls for the revived church, full of the fire of the Holy Spirit, to go into the fields, to awaken the lost and the forgotten and broken, and to bring them into the loving embrace of a God who is full of compassion, grace and mercy. This is the time of spiritual latter rains, and now is the time to welcome the embrace of a God who is real, alive, and who calls us all into His arms to reflect His beauty and greatness. It is not God’s Will that any soul He created should perish, but that all men should come to the knowledge of God and be saved. God is calling on all believers to cast their net in the deep for the harvest of souls.

Fielder's Choice by Craig Estes Pdf

W.D. Fielder's prim Virginia bred mother certainly wasn't looking for her seventeen-year-old's disgusting pinup magazines. But when she found them, while cleaning up his room, that rainy spring afternoon in 1989, she just kind of lost it. She had never raised a hand to either of the twins, William David or Wallace Daniel, but she did that day and paid for her lose of control with her life. Over the next decade, the late Edna Fielder's miscalculation fostered a flood of missing persons reports being lodged with the Barnwell County, Maryland Sheriff's department, but none of the almost three dozen missing women were ever found. The authorities, chagrined at being unable to solve even a single one of the cases, took the position that the girls had most likely just run away to see the world in Washington, D.C. or Baltimore or maybe even New York City. Then the newspaper publisher's daughter disappears while investigating the controversial Forest Vista land development project, located on one of the Fielder family properties, and all hell breaks loose. From the opulent corporate boardrooms of Washington, D.C. to the drug infested Baltimore slums and the rich rural farmlands in between, follow Jillian Hargrove and Architect Romulus Reynolds as they search for Reporter Chelsa Wellington and the other missing girls, even as the WD's track their every move. Initially reluctant to accede to his client's request to get involved in the search for the missing reporter, Reynolds is even more reticent in agreeing to let Jillian help. It's not just that she represents a group of neighbors, who want to stop his client's project. What really makes him uncomfortable is the possibility that she has become the kidnapper's next target. As their investigation reveals the magnitude of the twins' depravity, Rom's reservations are complicated by the fact that he has fallen passionately in love with Jillian. As their relationship deepens and the investigation accelerates, so do his fears that he will soon be coming face to face with the prospect of Jillian's death at the hands of the twins.

It also covers other significant topics pertaining to vampires, such as vampires in world folklore, humorous vampire films, and vampire lifestyle.

Pathologies of Desire by Gerald Doherty Pdf

Discussions of the self in James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man traditionally have a generic or a generalized quality: the self is modernist or postmodernist, essential or processive, unified or fragmented, etc. Pathologies of Desire takes a different tack: it shifts the ground of discussion, locating the self in relation to particular dispositions or traits of the subject, Stephen Dedalus. More specifically, it foregrounds three pathological states (autoerotic, paranoia, and the shame/guilt syndrome) as primary modes of self-aggregation - the unique power of painful inner splits and divisions to precipitate self-awareness, and to make the self self-reflexive. As challenges to self-understanding, anxiety (autoeroticism), persecution (paranoia), and humiliation (shame/guilt) are prime catalysts of those multi-layered linguistic resources that fortify Stephen's self with the means of comprehending its own angst. The fact that each particular self dissolves to make way for another underscores its purely contingent and transitional quality - it functions as a defense against the singularity of the pain that it generates. Stephen's ultimate prospect of creating new future selves is thus contingent on his power to liberate himself from the old ones' oppressive conditioning.
